Chapter 883 This Is All Thanks to You!
Jasper's words made Adeline and Oliver look up at the same time.
They both stared at him, confused.
"You know?"
"Yeah."
He smiled and hit play on the video on his phone.
It was a video from this morning, showing Fiona announcing the new heir of the Torres family.
In the video, Fiona openly talked about the current issues facing the Torres family.
Brandon chose to live with Daisy after their marriage, leaving the Torres family.
Randy was in prison for some reason and wouldn't be out anytime soon.
Neither of them was a suitable candidate to inherit the Torres Group.
So Fiona introduced a new heir, a man named Kurt.
In the video, Fiona was holding Kurt's hand excitedly, her eyes crinkling with a smile.
"Kurt just got back to Oceancrest City not long ago. I won't hand over the Torres Group to him right away. For now, he'll assist me."
"In a few months, once he's familiar with all the business operations, I'll officially let him take over the Torres Group!"
Jasper placed the video next to the computer screen.
The man Fiona was holding looked exactly like the one caught on surveillance last night.
Oliver's brows furrowed deeply.
Unlike Adeline and Jasper, he had grown up in Oceancrest City and knew the Torres family well.
But he had never heard of Fiona having a friend's child around, let alone any connection between this person and Zara.
What had he said to Zara last night that made her lose the will to live so suddenly?
Oliver couldn't figure it out.
Finally, Jasper reminded him.
"Do you think Dennis might know?"
Oliver slapped his forehead. "He might actually know."
Dennis had grown up with Oliver and was a few years older.
Moreover, Dennis was the son of Zara's friend and might know something about Zara's connections before she married into the Jenkins family.
Thinking this, he quickly pulled out his phone to call Dennis.
The phone rang for a long time before someone finally picked up.
But it wasn't Dennis. Instead, a sleepy woman's voice answered.
"Hello, who is this?"
That voice...
Oliver was instantly stunned.
"If you don't speak, I'm hanging up."
The woman yawned again, sounding groggy.
"Wait."
Oliver took a deep breath, his voice dry.
"Why do you have Dennis's phone?"
From the moment she answered, Oliver recognized the voice as Mia's.
It was six in the morning.
Mia's voice was thick with sleep, clearly having been woken up.
And Dennis was someone who never parted with his phone.
A bad feeling rose in Oliver's chest.
He narrowed his eyes, his voice turning cold.
"Where is Dennis?"
Mia got up from the couch and saw Dennis sleeping on the other side.
Still half-asleep, she didn't think much of it.
"He's sleeping. Hold on."
She walked over to Dennis and nudged him.
"Wake up, someone's looking for you."
Dennis, waking up groggily, answered in a sleepy voice.
"Oliver? What's up?"
"Nothing."
Oliver's face darkened, his gaze murderous.
"I won't disturb you. Have a good rest!"
He hung up immediately.
Adeline frowned, puzzled by Oliver's abrupt end to the call. He stood up.
"I'm heading out for a bit."
With that, he slammed the door shut and left.
Adeline stared at the closed door, bewildered.
Weren't they supposed to ask Dennis about Kurt?
"He probably just got his heart broken."
Jasper, understanding the situation, frowned slightly.
"Ask Mia who she was with last night."
Adeline was stunned for a moment before it clicked.
"So, Mia answered the phone just now?"
At this hour, Dennis's phone was with Mia.
It was obvious they had been together last night.
Adeline rubbed her temples in frustration.
Just a few days ago, Oliver's first love, Tamsin, had resurfaced. Now he discovered Mia and Dennis's ambiguous relationship.
She bit her lip. Could it be?
Were Oliver and Mia really not meant to be?
"Let's not worry about that now."
Jasper took a deep breath and glanced at Adeline coldly.
"Who arranged for you to go to Hugo's party last night?"
"My people asked Allan. He said someone paid him off in your name, requesting to attend the party."
"He made it clear to the person that it was a partner-swapping party, but they said it was fine, that you could handle it."
He stared at Adeline's face.
"I want to know if you arranged this or if Oliver did."
Adeline's eyes widened in shock.
She couldn't believe her ears.
"The person who paid Allan knew what kind of party it was?"
Why didn't she know anything about it?
The information she had found yesterday afternoon said it was a private gathering of old friends, where everyone would bring a date to eat and drink together.
She had thought last night's party was just that.
If she had known the real purpose, she wouldn't have gone!
Even if she had, she wouldn't have drunk so readily!
Thinking about it sent chills down her spine.
Everything yesterday was arranged by Tamsin.
Tamsin provided the party details and contacted Allan for her.
Last night, when she called for help, Tamsin had lost contact with her.
If Jasper hadn't arrived in time...
She might have woken up in some middle-aged man's bed this morning!
She bit her lip, her hands twisting together.
In the end, she decided to confront Tamsin.
What was really going on at last night's party?
And why, when she called for help, did none of the people she had stationed come to her aid?
Even if the equipment failed, no one contacted her all night!
Full of questions, Adeline reached the end of the research lab's hallway and dialed Tamsin's number.
The call was answered quickly.
Adeline took a deep breath.
"Tamsin."
"Adeline! You finally called me!"
As soon as the call connected, Tamsin's excited voice came through.
"Where are you? Are you okay?"
"I have good news! Hugo agreed to work with us!"
"We can sign the contract this afternoon, all thanks to you!"
