Chapter 452 Did You Do It on Purpose?

When Jasper rolled up to the hospital, the doc was patching up Luna's wounds.

While he was working, he grumbled to the assistant nearby. "If Ms. Jones is this messed up, why the hell didn't you call me sooner? This is nuts!"

The assistant bit her lip, looking all guilty. "I saw Ms. Jones was in good spirits, and she said she was fine, just a coffee burn, so I didn't think it was a big deal."

Jasper walked in and immediately noticed the gnarly cluster of blisters on Luna's stomach.

His brows knitted together. "What the hell happened?"

Luna bit her lip, her voice barely a whisper. "It's nothing. I was just clumsy and spilled some coffee."

"This isn't just clumsiness; it's practically a crime!" The doc snorted, treating Luna's wounds with a cold tone. "Ms. Jones insisted we keep it hush-hush and not tell you it was your employee who did this. But if it happens once, it'll happen again!"

He pointed to the blisters on Luna's stomach. "This time, she got lucky; the burns are on her stomach. What about next time? If it hits her hands, feet, or face, how will she deal with that? And looks aside, her health is already shaky. Any complications from these burns could be deadly!"

Jasper paused, then looked at Luna seriously. "What really went down?"

Luna hesitated, biting her lip before speaking. "Ms. Wilson's been on edge around me lately. Even though we're on the same team, I haven't seen the competition drafts. I thought she might still have some beef with me, so I made a cup of coffee and brought it over, hoping to smooth things over."

As Luna spoke, tears started streaming down her cheeks. "But my timing sucked; she wasn't in her office. Then the power went out, and it got dark. I got turned around and went the wrong way. Ms. Wilson thought I was trying to jack her designs. When I handed her the coffee, she refused and then shoved me, spilling it all over me."

She sniffed, grabbing a tissue to wipe her tears. "Of course, it was my bad. I shouldn't have barged into her office when she wasn't there. And I shouldn't have tried to fix things when I know she can't stand me."

Luna's words made the doc and assistant, who were treating her wounds, furious. "How can someone be like this? Aren't you on her team? Why's she so paranoid about you? You made her coffee, and she had the nerve to push you, leaving you scalded like this."

The doc's and assistant's words made Jasper's brows furrow even more.

Finally, the doc finished treating Luna's wounds and sighed. "Ms. Jones, you're Mr. Foster's girlfriend, and Adeline treats you like this?"

"Adeline never even respects me, let alone Luna." Jasper walked to Luna's bedside, handing her a tissue. "Wipe your tears. Adeline's actions are understandable. But as for the scalding incident..."

Jasper sighed. "I'll look into it."

"No need to dig into it." Luna pursed her lips, wiping her tears while speaking softly. "Let's just drop it. Ms. Wilson surely didn't mean it. I'll just steer clear of her from now on."

Jasper sighed, pulling Luna into a hug.

Sometimes, he thought Luna was too naive, always poking the bear with Adeline. But other times, her understanding broke his heart.

Luna said, "Jasper, the competition is in less than three days. This is crunch time for our team. Don't let this screw-up stir up any trouble with Miss Wilson, okay?"

Jasper sighed and nodded. "I get it."

Lying in Jasper's arms, Luna smiled slyly, a glint of cunning in her eyes.

After Luna's coffee incident, wherever Adeline went in the company, people would point and whisper.

"Is she the one who burned Ms. Jones?"

"Yeah, I heard Ms. Jones got seriously hurt, blisters all over her stomach. It's freaky! But Ms. Jones didn't even hold a grudge."

"Not just that! She even told Mr. Foster not to make a fuss about it, saying the jewelry design competition is coming up and they can't afford any drama."

"Think Mr. Foster will go after her once the competition's over?"

"Who knows? She's talented, but she's got a mean streak!"

That evening, while munching in the company cafeteria, the whispers kept floating around.

Timothy furrowed his brows and slammed his fork on the table. "These people can really spin some wild stories!"

Adeline subtly furrowed her brow and reached out to calm him. "Don't stir up any trouble."

Ever since she saw Jasper calmly delete the records from Amelia's phone, Adeline wanted nothing to do with Jasper and Luna anymore.

She just wanted to get through the competition, earn the ten million dollars for Jasper, and finish their deal. Then, she could take Blake and Lauren and leave Radiance Springs.

Blake and Lauren recently said they wanted to find Bennett, claiming he's somewhere in the mountains.

Even though she didn't buy it, she still agreed to go with Blake and Lauren to look for him. After all, it could be a nice trip to unwind. She always wanted Blake and Lauren to do what they wanted.

Adeline's patience made Timothy grit his teeth. He looked at Adeline. "You used to have more guts."

Adeline said, "I just feel like being a bit cautious now."

She chuckled softly, picked up her empty tray, and stood up. After only a few steps, she ran into Jasper and Luna walking arm in arm at the cafeteria entrance.

Luna gently leaned her head on Jasper's arm. "Sometimes, we don't need fancy food; eating in a place like the cafeteria is also great, right?"

Jasper nodded lightly.

After speaking, he looked up and locked eyes with Adeline.

Their eyes met. Adeline's eyes were filled with mockery, while Jasper's were cold.

Adeline had been busy prepping for the competition, and Jasper had been busy traveling.

This was their first meeting since the Amelia incident.

Looking at Adeline's face, Jasper's brows furrowed slightly.

In half a month, Adeline had lost a lot of weight, looking gaunt, and her foundation couldn't hide the dark circles under her eyes. It was clear she had been working tirelessly for the competition. But fortunately, in three days, she could leave.

Luna called, "Jasper?"

Seeing Jasper standing still, Luna furrowed her brows and followed his gaze.

When Luna's eyes met Adeline's, a flash of coldness appeared. The coldness disappeared in an instant. The next second, she smiled and said, "Ms. Wilson."

Adeline snapped back to reality and smiled coldly. "Didn't expect Mr. Foster and Ms. Jones to eat in the employee cafeteria."

Luna smiled sweetly. "I wanted to experience it, so I asked Jasper to join me."

Then, she warmly invited Adeline. "Ms. Wilson, have you finished eating? Want to join us for a cup of coffee? My treat."

"No need." Adeline snorted coldly, stepping around them to put her tray in the return area.

But as she passed by Luna, someone bumped into Adeline from the other side. Her tray flew out of her hands. The leftover soup in the tray splashed towards Luna.

Luna screamed and tried to dodge but couldn't. Her white shirt became a mess. The tray clattered to the ground.

Luna wiped her shirt while tearfully complaining, "This is the second time today."

Beside her, Jasper's eyes were cold as he looked at Adeline's face. "Did you do it on purpose?"

He could brush off the morning incident as an accident. But how to explain this time? How could it be such a coincidence that Adeline spilled something on Luna twice in one day?
