Chapter 363 It's Not Your Fault
"Can't I just visit you?" Mia laughed. "We haven't seen each other in a long time. How about we grab a coffee?"
Adeline hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded silently.
She felt sorry for Mia, just as she once did for herself when being hopelessly devoted to Jasper.
They sat down in a café.
Mia ordered a hot coffee for herself and a room-temperature juice for Adeline.
"Time flies." Mia sighed, stirring her coffee with a spoon and smiling faintly. "It feels like just yesterday when we first met."
"Back then, you had just joined the jewelry design department at Foster Group and were being bullied by Scarlett and Lucia. I thought you were just like me."
Having spoken, she cast a profound and enigmatic gaze upon Adeline. "I didn't expect so much to happen afterward."
Adeline also lowered her head and sighed softly. "Yeah."
Time indeed flew.
When she first met Mia, she was still full of hope, thinking she could get pregnant with Jasper's child and cure Blake.
Now, the harsh reality was nearly engulfing her.
"I'm getting married soon." Mia took a deep breath, pulled an invitation from her bag, and pushed it in front of Adeline.
"The wedding is in a few days. I hope you can come and witness my happiness." She continued.
Adeline picked up the invitation and saw the names "Mia & Thomas" on it, her breath hitching a bit.
She looked up, "Are you sure you really want to marry Thomas?"
"What else?" Mia raised an eyebrow, eyes slightly cold. "Are you suggesting that I should break up with him?"
Adeline's breath hitched as she instinctively looked up.
The warmth and gentleness had vanished from Mia's eyes, replaced by a coldness.
"Adeline, I find it quite unbelievable." Mia said.
"Where did you get the nerve to talk to me like this?"
Adeline squinted slightly, tossed the invitation back on the table, and crossed her arms.
Mia's reaction was unexpected, but also understandable.
When Mia had first reached out to her, Adeline had her reservations.
After all, Thomas was everything to Mia now.
Mia must've been aware of the hostility between Adeline and Thomas.
However, Adeline pitied Mia, thinking she was as pitiful as her old self; being deceived by love.
She didn't expect Mia to reveal her true feelings within minutes of sitting down in the café.
Thinking of this, Adeline raised an eyebrow slightly, her gaze indifferent. "I'm curious; what exactly did Thomas tell you?"
"He told me everything!" Mia gripped her coffee cup tightly, her eyes resentful.
"When you and Thomas took me out of the mental hospital, I really thought of you as a good friend, the second person I could trust in this world besides him." She said.
"But I didn't expect that the same night, you'd return me to the same mental hospital again!"
Mia gritted her teeth. "Adeline, I sympathize with your unhappiness, but why are you jealous of my relationship with Thomas?"
"You not only locked me up there, but also went after Thomas, getting him locked up too."
"If it weren't for Mr. Foster's kindness in releasing him, he would be suffering the same prison-like torment as I did!"
Seeing the anger in Mia's eyes, Adeline couldn't help but smile.
She felt sorry for Mia, thinking she was as blinded by so-called love as she once was.
However, Mia thought she was jealous of her and Thomas's relationship?
Adeline yawned, her gaze cold as she looked at Mia. "What is there for me to be jealous of?"
Her voice was icy as she continued, "I know your story."
"You and Thomas grew up together. In your eyes, you're a loving couple, right?"
Mia snorted coldly, full of pride. "We are!"
"Really?" Adeline asked.
She crossed her arms and leaned back elegantly in the leather seat.
"Then let me ask you, if you two are so in love and envied by others, why did Thomas leave Radiance Springs for six years without a word?"
Mia stunned. "That's because he was trapped abroad and couldn't contact me."
"Is that what he told you?" Adeline yawned. "Well, I've been doing quite well abroad these years."
"Why don't you tell me; in which country, which location, and by which people or organization was Thomas trapped?"
Adeline's words made Mia's hands clasp together tightly.
She gritted her teeth. "I didn't ask, but he would never lie to me!"
"Do you know that while he was abroad, he not only had a girlfriend, but also had a child?" Adeline said.
"Do you know that his girlfriend, Grace, and their son, Mark, are right here in Radiance Springs?"
Mia's eyes widened, pointing angrily at Adeline. "You're lying!"
Thomas grew up with her; she knew exactly what kind of person he was and how much he liked her!
He was restricted abroad, forced into hard labor, living a life of misery!
How could he have a girlfriend abroad? And a child? That was impossible!
Adeline sneered. "Am I lying, or are you just denying the truth because you only trust him?"
She distinctly recalled that Tim and Tom had mentioned how Thomas's wife and Mark were already in Radiance Springs.
However, Grace was smart and had never appeared.
"You!" Mia gritted her teeth. "You're slandering Thomas!"
With that, she stood up, grabbed her coffee cup in anger, and threw it at Adeline's face.
As the coffee flew towards her, Adeline instinctively dodged.
However, Mia's movement was too quick, and she couldn't avoid it.
Suddenly, Tom stepped in front of her.
The coffee splashed all over him.
Seeing him standing before her, soaked in coffee, Mia's eyes widened instantly. "Tom?"
She paused and instinctively looked at him.
It had indeed been a long time since she had seen him.
"Miss Wilson." Tom replied.
Then, a steady voice came from behind her.
Adeline turned around to see Tim walking slowly approaching. "Tom and I have been following you."
Her eyes widened.
They had been following her? She hadn't noticed at all.
Tim pulled out some napkins to wipe the coffee off Tom while sighing. "We failed to protect Bennett."
Tim choked up.,"We let you down. We only dared to follow you secretly to protect you, not daring to speak to you."
His words made her heart ache.
When Bennett took Tim and Tom as his subordinates, she always thought it was just a joke.
But now, she truly believed they were indeed Bennett's comrades in life and death.
Sighing, she patted their shoulders. "It's not your fault."
If it weren't for Jasper's lack of defense against Stella, Bennett wouldn't have died.
The conversation between the three made Mia frown. "Do you know each other?"
How could Tim and Tom have such a good relationship with Adeline?
Tim then turned to look at Mia. "Mia."
"Actually, everything Miss Wilson just told you is true."
