Chapter 537 What is He Going to Do to Blake?
David never got back to him.
Jasper didn't sweat it; both he and David were always swamped and often left chats hanging.
After grabbing breakfast with Blake and Lauren, Jasper headed to the office. Just as he got comfy in his chair, Scott's call came in. "Mr. Foster! Where did your son and daughter take my wife, Evelyn? She vanished after going out for ice cream with your kids last night! We were supposed to leave Radiance Springs today, but I can't reach her! Her phone, passport, and wallet are all still at the hotel, but she's gone."
Scott's voice was boiling with anger. "The hotel cameras last saw her going to the ice cream shop next to the water park with your kids. Don't you think you owe me an explanation?"
Jasper's brow furrowed. "Evelyn was with Blake and Lauren yesterday?" Why hadn't the kids mentioned it?
Jasper had been busy all afternoon, and the kids were off playing at the water park with Tim and Tom.
Last night, Jasper had specifically asked if they had met anyone, and both kids said no.
Thinking about this, Jasper hung up and called over Tim and Tom.
Tim said, "Yeah, yesterday afternoon, Blake and Lauren did meet a woman named Evelyn."
Tom added, "They had a blast together and went to the ice cream shop by the water park in the evening. After that, Blake and Lauren came out alone; we didn't see Evelyn."
Jasper rubbed his temples.
He didn't think Blake and Lauren could hide someone. But Evelyn's last known contacts were Blake and Lauren. He couldn't dodge responsibility.
Jasper said, "Lock down the city and help Mr. Smith find Evelyn!"
Outside the city, at the psychiatric hospital.
"Adeline, get up!" Outside the ward, the nurse called Adeline's name indifferently.
A woman wearing Adeline's hospital gown, with messy hair, slowly got up from the bed. Her movements were sluggish, not like those of a woman in her twenties.
The nurses thought she was slow because of the meds and didn't pay much attention.
It wasn't until the morning treatment that the nurses saw the woman's face. This wasn't Adeline at all!
The nurses exchanged glances and reported the situation to Gary.
Gary looked at the unfamiliar woman in front of him, frowning.
"Should we inform Mr. Foster?" One of his subordinates asked.
"Not yet." Gary quickly raised his hand to stop him.
Yesterday, Jasper was already furious when he found out Adeline had lost a finger and even threatened to cripple his hand. If Jasper found out today that Adeline had been taken away last night, he might lose his life!
Gary said, "Just continue the treatment as usual! Keep this from Mr. Foster for now, and quickly send people out to find Adeline!"
When Adeline woke up again, it was already evening.
Linda was crying by her bedside. She had been crying all day, and her eyes were swollen.
Seeing Linda's tear-streaked face, Adeline couldn't help but smile.
"Linda," Adeline's voice was weak. "Thank you."
Linda snapped out of it. She rushed over and grabbed Adeline's hand. "You're awake? Are you thirsty or hungry? I'll have David find the best chef to make you something delicious, okay?"
Seeing her eagerness, Adeline smiled bitterly. "I am indeed a bit hungry. Can you get me something light to eat?"
Linda nodded quickly and left the room.
Adeline leaned against the bed, listening to Linda instruct the guards to take good care of her, and smiled faintly.
After days of torment, Adeline's lips were dry and cracked, and even a slight movement brought excruciating pain.
Adeline licked her lips and slowly raised her left hand. Her left pinky was missing a piece. It would never be whole again. She would always be missing that piece. Just like her heart, Jasper had taken a piece, and it would never be whole again.
It had been a day; Adeline wondered if Jasper had realized she had escaped. If he had, he would probably lock down the city to find her.
But Adeline had already escaped Radiance Springs, out of his reach. She thought she should be happy now, but she couldn't smile.
Her Blake, Lauren, and Bennett were still in Radiance Springs. Adeline couldn't hide in Neon City forever. Eventually, she would have to return to that cage.
At that moment, a phone on Adeline's bedside table rang.
It wasn't her phone, but the name displayed was Blake. She couldn't resist and answered the call. She missed hearing her children's voices too much.
"Mommy! Are you okay?" As soon as the call connected, Blake's voice came through before Adeline could speak. "I had Linda leave this phone for you. This is an encrypted call; you need to stay hidden. Once you find solid evidence that Luna is faking her illness, you can come back! Don't worry; Lauren and I will be fine!"
Hearing Blake's voice, Adeline's tears flowed.
There was no need for explanations; Blake's simple words made everything clear. Blake had helped with the plan last night.
Being around Jasper, anything they did or said could easily be discovered. Adeline hadn't wanted to involve them in this. So, not only with Luna's situation but even when they visited her at the psychiatric hospital yesterday, she pretended to be relaxed.
No one understood a mother better than her own child. Adeline's strong facade couldn't fool Blake. He indeed knew. Not only did he know, but he also helped her escape along with David and Linda.
She bit her lip. "Blake, thank you."
Before Adeline could finish, she heard a door open on the other end.
After the door opened, Jasper's cold, deep voice sounded. "Blake, what did you do yesterday?"
As soon as Jasper finished speaking, the call was abruptly cut off.
Adeline gripped the phone, biting her lip hard. What was Jasper going to do to Blake?
