Chapter 136 Has Mr. Foster Already Cast You Aside?
Standing in the biting cold, Adeline watched as the Collins family of three got into their car and drove off into the distance.
All her life, all the love of their parents had been Molly's.
She had not been able to get even a tiny share of it.
"Adeline!"
Lost in thought, she didn't notice Violet rushing over to her.
"Are yYou okay?"
"I'm fine."
Violet affectionately looped her arm through Adeline's. "Come on, let's go have chicken wingsa hot pot at my place!"
The trio boarded Ethan Sterling's car.
Throughout the drive, Violet chattered non-stop about the coincidences of that eventful day.
It was because of her pregnancy test that a misunderstanding between Violet and Ethan Sterling occurred, which led to an unexpected promotion at work.
Gazing out the car window, images of that day involuntarily surfaced in Adeline's mind.
The night before that day, she had been with Jasper, marking their first encounter in six years.
Unfortunately, she hadn't hit the jackpot.
A sense of unexplained sorrow welled up inside her.
Now, with this mysterious "Adeline" on the scene, the prospect of having Jasper's child seemed more daunting than ever...
Before long, they arrived at Violet's house.
After Ethan Sterling had set up the table hot pot, he donned his coat and left, saying, "I'll leave you ladies to catch up."
Once his footsteps had faded down the corridor, Violet sighed in relief and grasped Adeline's hand, her voice filled with concern. "I was terrified when Bennett called me while you were at the police station!"
"What in the world is going on? How can there suddenly be another you?"
"Someone's got their eye on the role of Mrs. Foster."
Adeline sighed and recounted all the recent events to her friend.
"Oh my God!, Hhow can something like this happen?"
Violet was noticeably upset. "Bennett said he can hold down the fort for now, so you don't have to worry about him and Lauren. "
"Stay with me for a while."
"Thank you."
With a heavy heart, Adeline picked up her glass and downed her drink in one go.
Violet, noticing her friend's low spirits, didn't know quite how to console her, so she just kept her company, glass for glass.
Later on, she became drunk.
Resting her head on Violet's shoulder, Adeline's tears dampened her friend's shirt.
"All I wanted was to save Blake and to live a good life with my children; why does it have to be so hard? "
"Why can't I make Molly and Jasper pay for their actions?"
...
Violet hugged her tightly. "Everything will be alright."
She comforted Adeline well into the wee hours of the night.
Finally, Adeline fell asleep.
Turning off the lights in her room, Violet tidied up the remaining mess on the coffee table.
When she went downstairs to take out the trash, she unexpectedly bumped into Jasper.
The man stood by his car, smoking, apparently unaware of Violet's presence.
She hesitated for a moment, then mustered the courage and approached him.
"Mr. Foster?"
He turned around, saw her, and took a graceful drag of his cigarette.
"Up late, aren't we?"
Violet glanced at the cigarette butts at his feet.
At least a dozen.
"Shouldn't you Mrs. Foster be home now? Wouldn't you rather be cozy with your Lady instead of hanging around here?"
Jasper paused, then smiled wryly. "Can't sleep."
The woman he had pined for over six long years had finally returned. He thought he'd be, as Violet put it, sweetly asleep with his dear wife in his arms.
But sleep evaded him.
He didn't understand why.
LA love was carved so deeply into his heart for six years, yet when he tried to get close to Stella, he instinctively resisted.
Even when holding Stella tightly, thoughts of Adeline would haunt him.
Tonight, he had tried hard to sleep with Stella as he once did with Adeline, but to no avail.
In the end, he had to leave under the pretense of working late, leaving her alone at home.
Without realizing it, he ended up here.
He crushed the cigarette butt under his shoe. "Where's Adeline?"
He had watched from a distance as she got into Ethan Sterling's car earlier that night upon her release.
"She was upset. So she, drank too much, and is now asleep."
Jasper's gaze darkened slightly.
After a moment, he sighed softly, "I suppose so."
Raising two kids wholeheartedly for six years, only for them to suddenly return to their biological parents – it must be hard for her to accept, right?
"Mr. Foster."
Violet furrowed her brows. "I have a question."
"Go ahead."
"You've always publicly claimed your love for your wife, hoping for her return and promising to treat her well forever."
"But now that she's really back, you're out here in the middle of the night. "
"Have you fallen for Adeline?"
"Miss Wood, are you kiddingyou jest?."
Jasper denied it without hesitation.
"I’m jJust concerned, that's all."
He gave a faint, wry smile. "After all, she's been devoted to my children."
Violet chuckled.
"Forget it if you don't want to admit it. "
"I should head back. "
"Mr. Foster, you should go home early, too. You wWouldn't want any misunderstandings."
Returning upstairs, Violet glanced downstairs almost subconsciously before bed.
That man was still there, lighting up another cigarette.
She rolled her eyes.
This Jasper is seriously unhinged.
...
The following day, a hungover Adeline was jolted awake by her phone.
It was Lucia calling.
The once arrogant design director, now demoted to Adeline's assistant, was all sweetsugar on the phone, "Director, we haven’t seen youyou haven't been in for two days. Are you coming in to oversee the work today?"
"After all, the design department is counting on you for the creative plans."
Adeline rubbed her temples, "Wasn't I fired?"
"Fired?"
There was a pause on the other end before Lucia responded with a chuckle, "Joking, right? How could sSomeone with your reputation, handpicked by Mr. Foster's father, bewho could fired you?"
Adeline climbed out of bed, taking a while to pep herself up, "I'll head to the office today."
If she wasn't fired, the work must go on.
After all, it was her only remaining connection to Jasper.
It wasn't that she cared much for Jasper, but t...
Those two rascals at home were with Jasper and Stella, and she couldn't just ignore the urge to be near them.
She took a deep breath and began to get ready for the day.
Leaning against the bathroom door, Violet yawned, "Guess who I saw last night after you fell asleep?"
Adeline gave her a quizzical look, "Who?"
"Jasper."
Adeline's hands, in mid-wash, paused briefly.
Moments later, she laughed self-deprecatingly, "Stop kiddingjoking."
"I'm not kidding."
Violet winked at her, "Think about it; Jasper never really liked you from six years ago; it was all just for show."
"Now that Stella impersonated you to get close to him, she made decisions as soon as she got back and let you and Molly go. "
"If I were Jasper, I'd be too busy hating her even to pretend to be lovey-dovey with her."
Adeline paused, then looked at her helplessly, "So what?"
"It still has a chance. Give seduction a shot."
"After all, we get pregnant and bail, not planning to stick with him long-term."
Adeline hesitated, "We'll see."
Her mind was a mess right now.
After getting herself together, Adeline slung her backpack over her shoulder and headed downstairs.
Adeline had just stepped out of her apartment when she was immediately ambushed by a horde of reporters lurking downstairs.
"Miss Wilson, why don't you live at Blue Bay? Why do you stay here?"
"Miss Wilson, we've heard that Mr. Foster's ex-wife, Miss Collins, is back. What's your plan?"
"Has Mr. Foster abandoned you?"
"You just went public with your relationship with Mr. Foster, and you've been dumped. Are you still going to work at the Foster Group, Miss Wilson?"
