Chapter 687 That Man Is Really Handsome
"Adeline, why'd you rush over here first thing in the morning?"
A red Ferrari pulled up next to the charred remains of Blue Bay. Mia hopped out, opening the door for Adeline while grumbling, "This place is totally burned down. What's there to see?"
Adeline's face was still pale and weak. She managed a faint smile, "Jasper said the air quality here is still bad after the fire. We can't let three kids come over. But they keep bugging me to grab some stuff from here, so I had to come myself."
Mia pouted, "What could possibly be left after such a huge fire?"
Adeline shrugged and smiled, "We'll take whatever we can find."
She glanced at the once grand Blue Bay, now reduced to rubble, feeling a wave of emotions. She thought of Alice, a vibrant life lost because of Molly.
"These belongings seem to be a woman's."
Suddenly, a clear child's voice rang in Adeline and Mia's ears. They both turned their gaze towards the sound.
A little boy dressed in black was walking through the ruins, holding a small bag and muttering to himself, "Maybe this is an important piece of evidence. I'll take it to the police later."
Adeline and Mia exchanged a glance, recognizing the boy. Mia furrowed her brow, realizing it was Joseph, the boy who had claimed to be a detective and exposed Rex for killing Lily at the stock transfer signing yesterday. She had even found his jade ring and wanted to return it to him.
"Hey, Joseph," Mia called softly as she walked over.
Joseph, who was busy talking to himself, was startled. He instinctively took a step back, assuming a defensive posture. When he saw it was Mia, he frowned and tilted his head, "Madam, do you need something?"
Then he noticed Adeline behind Mia. Joseph's face turned pale.
Oh no, this woman seemed to be the owner of this place. Even though the police and firefighters had left, and the fire scene was no longer a restricted area, he was still trespassing on someone else's burned property. Would he get in trouble?
Joseph quickly ran up to Adeline, offering her the items he had found, "Here, this is for you! I found it here, it might belong to a relative or friend of yours. Take good care of it!"
He turned to run but was caught by the collar by Mia. "Joseph, why are you running?" she asked, intending to return his jade ring.
Joseph, feeling guilty, thought Mia was upset about him scavenging. He pouted and shouted, "Oliver! Your son is being caught! Come save me!"
In the distance, Oliver, who had a slightly burned photo of a woman in his pocket, heard Joseph's cry and hurried over.
He saw Joseph being held by a woman in red, who had a beautiful face and a sexy figure. Strangely, from Oliver's perspective, Joseph and the woman looked somewhat alike.
Oliver sighed. He remembered Joseph's mother, a poor, mute woman from Radiance Springs, who looked nothing like this woman.
He approached, greeted Adeline and Mia, and explained, "My son is fascinated with detective work. Since the police and firefighters have left, I brought him here to explore. We will return anything we find to the police, rest assured."
Adeline smiled, holding the items Joseph gave her, "It doesn't matter. But this is still a fire scene, and the air is filled with chemicals. It's not safe for a child as young as him to be here."
Oliver nodded, thanked Adeline, and was about to leave when he remembered something. He took out the photo he had found, "Do you know who this woman is?"
Adeline glanced at the photo. It was an old picture of herself, from before her cosmetic surgery. She hesitated, "I'm not sure."
She didn't want to share too much with a stranger. Oliver, sensing her reluctance, didn't press further. He turned to Mia, "Madam, the person you're holding is my son. If he has offended you, please forgive him."
Mia, stunned by Oliver's handsome face, couldn't speak for a moment.
Oliver, noticing her reaction, apologized and left with Joseph.
As Oliver's car became a dot in the distance, Mia was still staring blankly. "Are you in a daze?" Adeline waved a hand in front of her face.
Mia snapped out of it, "That man is so good-looking. But he has a kid, so he must be married. No chance for me!"
Adeline rolled her eyes, "You say that every time you see a handsome guy."
She opened the package Joseph had given her. It was a metal box, which she recognized as Alice's.
Back in the car, Adeline opened the box to find a phone. She turned it on, and to her surprise, it still worked. She intended to see if there was anything Alice had left unfinished.
As soon as the phone turned on, countless messages flooded in. Adeline felt a chill run down her spine.
