Chapter 738 Guess What the Result Is
With a ding, the elevator doors slid open.
Daisy, in her high heels, stormed out, her voice sharp as she addressed the man behind her.
"Dad, I've always respected Oliver, but what he did this time is just infuriating!"
She sighed in frustration, her voice tinged with disappointment.
"I know Oliver has felt like an outsider ever since he found out he wasn't Mom's biological child, just like me. But he's still your son. How could he do something like this? Although he knew Mom's condition and that she can't handle stress, he still brought Adeline. It's like he wants Mom to die from the shock!"
Daisy wiped away a tear. "Dad, I know Oliver's always been worried I'd take over the Phoebe family's assets. But after what happened last time, I've learned my lesson. I don't hold any position in the Phoebe Group now. Why would he still do this? The Phoebe family is his. Why is he so eager to push Mom to her death, just to get everything?”
Howard followed Daisy, his anger and cold demeanor making the hallway feel even chillier.
His eyes narrowed in fury. He couldn't understand how Oliver had turned out this way!
Esther's kindness and gentleness hadn't passed on to him at all!
Howard and Daisy stormed to the hospital room.
Hearing their footsteps, Oliver, who had been watching over the ICU, turned around, frowning.
He was met with a powerful slap from Howard.
Howard had put all his strength into it.
Oliver, nearly 6'3", had become gaunt over the years, as thin as a rail.
The slap sent him stumbling back, catching the edge of a window to avoid falling.
A red handprint quickly appeared on Oliver's face.
Steadying himself, Oliver wiped the blood from his lip, his gaze icy. "Dad, what brings you here so late?"
Howard's eyes narrowed, a cold snort escaping him. "If I didn't come, I might not get to see Zara one last time!"
He pointed angrily at Oliver. "You bastard! Even if you're fighting Daisy for the inheritance, bringing the person who killed Zara's daughter here is too much! What the hell are you up to?"
Oliver's eyes swept coldly over Daisy behind Howard.
Daisy stood there, a smug smile on her lips.
"You say Adeline killed Molly?" Oliver stared at Howard. "Do you have any proof that Adeline killed Molly? The investigation at Radiance Springs showed that Molly killed the gardener Hestia, then drove Hestia's car with gasoline to burn down Jasper and Adeline's house! How does that make Adeline Molly's killer?"
Howard's anger flared as he said, "Are you pretending not to know? Radiance Springs is Jasper's territory. Do you think he'd let us know the real truth?"
"Exactly," Daisy chimed in, rolling her eyes. "Jasper would do anything to clear Adeline's name, no matter what she did."
Howard's eyes darkened. "Daisy's right.”
He looked at Oliver with disappointment. "Molly was your half-sister! She got into trouble at Radiance Springs, and you didn't help. You just watched her die! After she died, you defended Adeline and brought her to see Zara! What are you thinking?”
Howard glanced into the ICU.
The sight inside left him speechless.
Adeline was sitting by Zara's bed, her head resting on Zara's shoulder.
Zara, who should have been furious, was gently stroking Adeline's hair with a loving expression.
The scene looked more like a reunion of long-lost mother and daughter than enemies meeting.
Seeing Howard's stunned expression, Oliver chuckled. "Dad, do they look like enemies to you?”
Howard was at a loss for words.
How could this be?
Daisy bit her lip, quickly stepping in to block Howard's view. "Dad, don't be fooled by this. Mom's very ill, she might be confused. Maybe she's mistaking Adeline for Molly because she misses her so much."
She started to cry. "Mom's been through so much. She raised a daughter who wasn't hers, finally found her real daughter, only to lose her to Adeline. Now she's so confused she's mistaking her daughter's killer for her own child."
Daisy's tears cut deep into Howard's heart.
He stepped back, pale, filled with anger and sorrow.
He had wronged Zara the most in his life. After breaking off their engagement and falling in love with Esther, he never expected Esther's mysterious death.
After Esther died, he often mistook Zara for Esther in his grief leading to Zara's pregnancy and their daughter's birth. Thinking of this, Howard felt as though his heart was being wrenched.
He knew all too well the pain of confusing someone in a daze.
Howard looked up, his bloodshot eyes fixed on Oliver.
"Zara may not be your biological mother, but she raised you for years! She's gravely ill, and this is how you treat her! Have you no shame?”
Oliver laughed coldly, glancing at Daisy blocking the view. "This is directed at you. Mom took care of you for years. Even if she didn't do it perfectly, she tried. And this is how you repay her?"
Daisy's face turned pale. "I don't know what you're talking about!"
Oliver chuckled, signaling his assistant. "I didn't do nothing for Molly in Radiance Springs. After Molly died, I got a DNA sample from her body and compared it with Dad's, Mom's, and yours. Guess what the results were?"
