Chapter 516 Originally Intended for Luna
Facing Jasper's stunned look, the doctor cleared his throat. "Lily's in the restroom with a nurse. She took a laxative, but she's been constipated lately, so it's kind of a blessing in disguise. As for Blake and Lauren, they didn't test positive for laxatives. They probably just had stomachaches from eating something cold this afternoon. I've already given them some medicine."
The doctor sighed. "Jasper, even though this was a false alarm, there really was poisoned food at home. You need to look into it. And Lily can't take any more laxatives."
With that, the doctor closed the medical file and walked away.
Jasper frowned as he watched the doctor leave, then turned around after a moment.
Behind him, Luna was sitting on a chair, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed and wiped her eyes. "Thank goodness Grandma only took a laxative. If she had eaten the food Adeline poisoned, who knows what could've happened."
Across from her, Adeline was leaning against the wall, casually messing with her phone. Every now and then, she'd play voice messages.
Jasper's sharp ears caught that the voice in the messages was Vikram's.
Jasper's frown deepened.
At a time like this, Adeline still had the nerve to chat with Vikram!
It wasn't just his grandmother who was rushed to the emergency room, but also Jasper and Adeline's two kids!
Adeline always claimed she was mentally stable and loved the kids. Was this how she showed it?
Jasper stared at her for a long time.
It wasn't until Adeline finished her conversation with Vikram that she noticed Jasper had been staring at her.
She put away her phone and glanced at him indifferently. "Jasper, do you need something from me?"
Jasper squinted his eyes, his voice tight with anger. "Did you put the laxative in?"
Where did the laxative come from? Plus, the person Jasper had sent to follow Adeline home last night reported that she had stopped by a pharmacy on her way back. It was hard for Jasper not to connect the poison in the cashew shrimp and the laxative in his grandmother's system to her.
Adeline paused, then shrugged. "You mean the laxative? Yeah, I did put it in."
Adeline's words made Jasper's eyes widen! She admitted it so easily?
Jasper was furious, taking a step forward and grabbing her jaw. "Do you know how old Grandma is? Giving her such a strong laxative, are you trying to kill her? What did Grandma ever do to you?"
Jasper admitted that when Adeline first came back, Grandma had targeted her for the sake of Molly and Stella.
But later, when he explained to Lily how tough it was for Adeline to raise the kids alone and how she had done a great job, Lily's attitude towards Adeline changed.
Actually, Lily couldn't stand Luna now because she thought so highly of Adeline!
But now, Adeline was willing to harm Lily, who thought so highly of her!
What was Adeline trying to do? Did she even have a heart? Jasper couldn't wrap his head around why she'd target Lily!
Luna said, "Maybe it's not Grandma who offended Adeline, but me."
As Jasper was grilling Adeline, Luna, who had been sitting off to the side, wiped her tears and stood up.
Luna's eyes were filled with tears as she sobbed and looked at Jasper and Adeline. "Adeline must know that Grandma and I haven't been getting along lately. So she wanted to harm Grandma and put the blame on me."
Luna's eyes were red and swollen from crying. "After all, in the entire Emerald Crest Estate, I'm the only one with a motive to harm Grandma."
The more she spoke, the more upset Luna became, her whole body starting to tremble.
Adeline, pinned against the wall by Jasper, couldn't help but smile. "Luna, your act of playing the victim is really impressive. With skills like that, it's a pity you're not in Hollywood!"
"Adeline!" Jasper's eyes turned cold again at her words. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Nonsense?" Adeline smirked, looking coldly at Jasper. "Isn't Luna the one talking nonsense?"
Adeline fearlessly met Jasper's gaze, her voice icy. "Luna said I knew she was the only one in Emerald Crest Estate with a motive to harm Lily, so I deliberately poisoned Lily to frame Luna. So I want to ask, do you two think I'm an idiot? I know Lily and Luna hate each other, so why would I get involved? If I hate Luna so much, why wouldn't I use Lily to deal with Luna more often?"
Adeline's words made the hallway fall silent.
Jasper frowned, his grip on Adeline's jaw gradually loosening.
Adeline took the opportunity to pull his hand away and walked coldly to stand in front of Luna. "If I really wanted to mess with you, I wouldn't target Lily. I'd badmouth you in front of Lily and try to win her favor. That way, your life would be miserable."
Luna squinted her eyes, a flash of malice in her gaze. But outwardly, she remained soft and weak. "Adeline, don't you also dislike Grandma? Killing Grandma may make you happier than pleasing her?"
Adeline laughed.
She didn't answer Luna's question but instead asked her one. "Luna, if you were going to poison Lily, would you choose to put the poison in a dish only you handled?"
Luna's face turned pale.
Adeline said, "At that time, only you and I were in the kitchen, and you always loudly claimed you were allergic to shrimp and wouldn't touch the cashew shrimp. Do you think I'm stupid enough to put poison in the cashew shrimp?"
Adeline's words made Jasper frown slightly.
After a while, he snorted coldly. "If you claim you didn't poison anyone, why did you admit it earlier?"
Adeline smirked. "Jasper, I only admitted to the laxative. Lily did drink the beverage I spiked with a laxative."
As she spoke, Adeline glanced at Luna. "And that drink was originally meant for Luna."
