Chapter 880 I Will Take Her There Immediately

Kurt didn't answer Clio's question.

After the assistant finished checking him, he put on his protective suit and gave Clio a slight nod.

"Thanks, Dr. Ross."

With that, he followed the staff into Zara's sterile room.

Clio had a bad feeling about him.

So, as soon as Kurt entered the room, she headed straight to the monitoring room, her eyes glued to the screen showing the sterile room.

Zara was in a vegetative state.

Even without any weapons, Kurt could still harm her with his bare hands.

Thinking about this, Clio regretted her impulsiveness. She shouldn't have let him in just because he seemed sincere.

If something happened, how would she face Adeline and Sebastian?

As she was thinking this, the door to the room opened.

Kurt, led by the staff, entered the room.

Once the door closed, the first thing he did was locate the surveillance camera.

The man in the protective suit smiled and bowed gracefully to the camera.

"Dr. Ross, I know you're watching."

"But I don't want a third person listening to my conversation with my sister."

With that, he reached out and disconnected the audio wire from the camera.

Finally, he put the camera back in place, turned around, and started talking to Zara.

Clio watched the screen, feeling a chill run down her spine.

Every move he made was eerie and unsettling.

But thankfully, he never touched Zara.

Ten minutes later.

Kurt left the room on time.

Clio quickly left the monitoring room and stood casually in the hall.

"Thanks again, Dr. Ross, for this opportunity."

Kurt smiled warmly at Clio and walked away.

Clio stood there, watching him leave, and finally let out a long sigh of relief.

Thank goodness.

He didn't touch Zara, so nothing happened to her.

Otherwise, she wouldn't know how to explain it to Adeline and Sebastian.

She sat down on the couch and took out her phone, about to ask Sebastian about this man named Kurt, when a loud alarm sounded in the distance.

A nurse from the ward rushed out, pale-faced.

"Dr. Ross, something's wrong with Zara!"

"Her condition has changed, the alarm is coming from her room!"

Clio felt a chill run through her body.

This alarm was specifically designed to detect changes in the patient's condition. If the patient's vital signs changed too much, the alarm would sound, indicating the patient was in critical condition!

In the five years since she established this research institute, this was the first time the alarm had gone off!

This meant Clio might be facing her first failure in five years!

She quickly stood up and rushed into the sterile room.

Zara's previously stable vital signs were plummeting.

Her will to live was fading!

Everything had been fine before, but after Kurt talked to her, it turned into this?

Clio cursed under her breath, urgently instructing the doctors and nurses to keep Zara's heart beating while she took out her phone to call Sebastian.

"Get me in touch with the Phoebe family!" Clio demanded, her voice tense.

Sebastian frowned, glancing upstairs. "Adeline might not be available right now."

"Anyone from the Phoebe family will do—Oliver, Howard!" Clio insisted, her eyes darting between Zara's vital signs and the treatment she was administering. "Especially Howard. Get him on the phone or bring him here! Zara is in critical condition!"

Sebastian was stunned. "How could this happen?"

"A man claiming to be Zara's brother came and talked to her. I don't know what he said," Clio replied, her disbelief evident.

She couldn't fathom how Kurt could destroy Zara's will to live with just his words.

Zara was a mature woman in her fifties, conscious and capable of thinking, even though she couldn't speak or move. This was the first time Clio realized that someone could shatter an adult's will to live in just ten minutes.

Sebastian didn't waste any time. He rushed upstairs and kicked open the bedroom door. Inside, Jasper was tying Adeline to the bed with a towel.

"Jasper, don't do this to me. It hurts..." Adeline's whining voice hit Sebastian's ears as soon as he entered.

Sebastian took a deep breath and relayed Clio's message to Jasper. "I need to contact Oliver and Howard. Find a way to wake Adeline up."

Jasper frowned. "I can't."

He had just finished a video call with Dennis and two other doctors. After seeing Adeline's symptoms, the three doctors all shook their heads, saying that apart from having sex, they could only wait until the drug wore off by morning.

Sebastian rolled his eyes and dialed Oliver while saying, "Then sleep with her! You've done it before, you have four kids together, what's the big deal?"

Jasper narrowed his eyes. "Even if I detoxify her, it won't be quick."

Sebastian rolled his eyes again. "I don't care, just figure it out!"

With that, Oliver answered the phone. Sebastian quickly relayed Clio's message. "Hurry, Clio said she tested it at the institute. Every time she mentioned your dad, your mom's heart rate would increase. It proves that your dad is the most important to her. She needs his help now!"

Oliver sighed, looking at the man in the ward who had just been sedated. "I'll try."

Howard's mental state was unstable. Even if they connected a video call, he might not talk to Zara, let alone convey his feelings through the signal.

But Oliver had recorded Howard singing to Zara during one of his episodes. He sent the audio recording to Clio and then prepared to head to Everglade City.

He hadn't taken Howard to see Zara before because he feared it would upset him. But now, with Zara in such critical condition, he had no choice.

Once the car was ready, Oliver had Howard carried into the car and called Adeline. To his surprise, Jasper answered.

"She's asleep. I'm bringing her over now."
