Chapter 708 He Abandoned Me
Adeline had been having nightmares for what felt like forever.
In her dream, Jasper was bowing before her, covered in blood, confessing his mistakes.
She turned away, tears streaming down her face.
Standing behind her was Lily, who had already passed away.
Lily pulled the knife from her chest and slowly walked toward Adeline. Suddenly, Lily's expression turned cold and vicious.
"Adeline, you promised me that no matter what, you wouldn't give up on Jasper! And now, how long has it been, and you've already forgotten!"
Adeline clutched her aching chest, blood trickling from her mouth.
"Grandma, I haven't forgotten my promises. I haven't given up on him! He gave up on me! He gave up on me first!"
Adeline woke up with a start from her nightmare.
"Had a bad dream?" Brandon's voice came from beside her.
Adeline was startled and quickly turned to look.
By the window, Brandon was sitting in his wheelchair, gazing indifferently at the sky outside.
Sensing her gaze upon him, Brandon turned his head, his eyes filled with deep sorrow. "You were calling out Jasper's name in your sleep."
Brandon sighed, his gaze softening as he looked at Adeline. "There are still three hours until the engagement ceremony. If you regret it now, there's still time. After all, you and Jasper still have three..."
"Brandon!"
Adeline wiped the cold sweat from her forehead and interrupted him firmly.
"Is this really the time to talk like that? If you keep this up, I really won't marry you!"
Adeline's words made Brandon's face pale slightly.
Then, he laughed self-deprecatingly. "If you don't marry me, I'll actually be relieved. A wonderful woman like you shouldn't marry a cripple like me."
Adeline frowned and walked over to hug him from behind the wheelchair.
"Brandon, stop saying things like that. I won't regret my decision. Jasper doesn't care about me anymore. If you don't want me either... I..."
The warmth of Adeline's body and her voice made Brandon's eyes narrow slightly.
He reached out and gently held Adeline's hand. "Alright, I won't say it anymore. No matter what, I won't abandon you."
Hearing Brandon's gentle voice, Adeline sighed deeply. Just as she was about to say something, there was a knock on the door.
"Mr. Brandon, Mrs. Fiona Torres asked me to call you over. I heard you're getting engaged tonight, and your father has returned."
Brandon's body suddenly stiffened when he heard the word "father."
Adeline had been by Brandon's side for six years, so she knew what "his father" meant to him.
She quickly spoke up for Brandon. "Alright, we'll be right there!"
The servant outside the door wasn't surprised by Adeline's response.
"Please hurry, Mr. Leo Torres will only be here for a few minutes."
With that, the servant left.
Listening to the footsteps fade away, Adeline let out a long breath and held Brandon's hand. "No matter what, he's still your father. We should see him. Get ready, and let's go to the main mansion to meet him."
Brandon closed his eyes and stayed silent for a long time before slowly wheeling himself to the bathroom.
Adeline stood there, watching him leave, and sighed deeply.
She had heard about Brandon's father, Leo Torres, from the servants.
Apparently, Leo's true love wasn't Brandon's mother, but another woman.
That woman was opposed by the Torres family, and in the end, she committed suicide in tears.
After losing his beloved, Leo went mad.
He was confined to a mental hospital for over a decade. When Brandon came of age, Leo finally regained his sanity.
After recovering, Leo didn't return to the Torres Mansion but went to a church and became a priest.
Brandon's mother was actually one of Leo's servants.
In his grief, Leo had turned to alcohol, and in his drunken state, mistook Brandon's mother for the woman he loved, resulting in Brandon's birth.
This was why Brandon had been looked down upon and mocked by Randy in the Torres family for so many years.
If it weren't for Brandon's maturity, determination, and business acumen, he would never have become the head of the Torres family.
Adeline hadn't expected that Leo, who had never cared about Brandon, would come to see them today.
Soon, Brandon finished washing up.
He not only washed his face but also meticulously combed his hair, making sure every strand was in place.
Adeline watched him, feeling a mix of emotions.
Even though Brandon always said he didn't care about his father, deep down, he must have cared.
With a heavy heart, Adeline pushed Brandon to the main house of the Torres Mansion.
Inside, sitting on the couch with Fiona, was a middle-aged man.
He wore a hat and had the distinct aura of a priest.
Adeline respectfully pushed Brandon inside and greeted Leo softly.
When her eyes met Leo's, Adeline's pupils widened in shock.
It was her first time seeing Brandon's father.
But this face she had seen it somewhere before!
Leo noticed the shock in Adeline's eyes. He looked at her calmly. "Thank you very much for taking care of Brandon."
Adeline quickly shook her head. "It's no trouble."
"Mr. Leo Torres, what brings you here?" Brandon, sitting in his wheelchair, spoke coldly. "You spend your days in the church. Why would you care about me?"
Brandon's words made Leo smile faintly. "I pray for my deceased and living relatives. I pray for you too. How can you say I don't care about you? I care about all my family."
"You don't care about a damn thing!" Fiona snorted and knocked her cane on the floor. "Your heart and mind are still stuck twenty years ago, with that Esther Forster woman! What's so special about her that you can't let go even now?"
The name "Esther Forster" made Adeline freeze.
If she remembered correctly, that was the name of Lily's deceased daughter, Jasper's aunt!
She looked up at Leo in a daze.
Now she understood why Leo looked familiar.
He was the boyfriend in the photo Lily had shown her of Esther!
Adeline's mind was in turmoil.
Lily had said her daughter was killed by the Phoebe family.
But the Torres family servants always said Leo's first love was driven to death by Fiona!
