Chapter 712 How Could It Be You
Brandon's words made Adeline pause for a moment.
She instinctively glanced downstairs to where Jasper had been sitting earlier.
The spot where Jasper had been was now empty, with only Daisy sitting there alone.
Adeline was taken aback.
She smiled and moved closer to Brandon, massaging his shoulders as she spoke softly, "You saw Jasper's seat was empty, and you smelled smoke on me, so you thought I went to see him?"
Brandon narrowed his eyes, his voice carrying a hint of coldness, "Isn't that the case?"
Adeline could hear the displeasure in his voice.
She pressed her lips together, "No. I just went to see a friend."
Brandon asked, "A male or female friend?"
"Of course, a female." Adeline replied.
Brandon continued, "You have a female friend who smokes in Oceancrest City?"
Adeline hesitated, "She... isn't from Oceancrest City."
"Not from Oceancrest City, yet invited to my engagement party?"
Brandon grabbed Adeline's hand, his voice suddenly turning icy, "Adeline, you never used to lie to me."
Brandon's grip on Adeline's wrist was strong, causing her to wince in pain.
She struggled to pull her hand free from Brandon's grasp, "Brandon, you're hurting me!"
Brandon frowned and paused before finally releasing her hand. He glanced downstairs.
Jasper had returned to Daisy's side.
Only then did Brandon let out a sigh of relief.
Adeline rubbed her reddened wrist and instinctively took a step back. "Brandon, you..."
Why, in that moment when Brandon grabbed her wrist, did she suddenly feel like she had never truly known him?
The always gentle and kind Brandon, how could he show such an expression and use such force on her?
Brandon caught the fear in Adeline's eyes.
He sighed, wheeling himself over to her and gently wrapping his arms around her waist.
"Adeline, I'm sorry. I..."
He sighed again, his deep voice tinged with a bit of grievance, "I saw Jasper downstairs, and I was afraid you would meet him. I was scared you would leave me at such an important event. I've never truly had you, so I'm terrified."
Maybe it was Brandon's pitiful tone, but Adeline bit her lip and couldn't help but think of herself.
Wasn't she the same?
Because she had never truly had Jasper's love and care, she valued it so much and was so afraid of losing it.
During Jasper's time in Oceancrest City, she had truly felt what it meant to lose.
Thinking of this, she began to understand Brandon a bit more.
Adeline sighed and gently hugged Brandon's shoulders.
"Don't worry, I'm not like some people. I won't go back on my word."
Brandon narrowed his eyes, finally leaning against Adeline's waist with a satisfied smile.
Downstairs.
Daisy looked up at Brandon and Adeline by the railing and couldn't help but smirk, nudging Jasper to look up.
"Look at them, so in love."
Daisy said this while pretending to casually check her phone, "Mr. Foster, were you and Adeline this deeply in love when you were together? I heard that when Mr. Torres first got engaged to you, he was completely against it. "
Jasper smiled calmly, "Ms. Phoebe, did you and Mr. Torres grow close after your engagement? I heard that when Mr. Torres first got engaged to you, he was completely against it. Then after he accidentally saved Adeline, you caused a scene, and he canceled the engagement."
Jasper's words made Daisy's face darken immediately.
She had just casually mocked Jasper!
She didn't expect Jasper to have a whole rebuttal ready!
She forced a broad smile while cursing him inwardly.
If it weren't for the fear that Jasper might leave the venue to deal with the economic battle with the Phoebe family, she wouldn't be here listening to his nonsense!
After all, Jasper was responsible for her biological sister Molly's death.
She wanted to tear Adeline and Jasper apart whenever she saw them!
But now, she had to endure; thinking of this, she instinctively glanced at the stock market trends on her phone.
What was going on?
What was Lester Harrison doing?
Hadn't Lester assured her that as long as she kept Jasper occupied, they could quickly restore the Phoebe family's stock price and win this battle?
Why was there still no progress?
Daisy narrowed her eyes and couldn't help but message Lester: [What's the status?]
Lester replied quickly: [Not good. Ms. Phoebe, are you sure you have Jasper occupied? Why is the Foster Group still pressuring us? We can't make any moves right now!]
Lester's message made Daisy freeze!
She instinctively looked up at Jasper.
He was still elegantly sipping his wine, his phone untouched beside him.
Daisy started to panic.
What was going on?
Jasper was here, not giving any orders, so who was managing the Foster Group's actions?
Without Jasper's command, who could freely mobilize the Foster Group's resources to pressure the Phoebe Group?
Something was definitely off!
Suddenly, Daisy's eyes lit up.
Jasper had come alone today!
His assistant, who had been with Jasper for six or seven years, was definitely no ordinary person!
She narrowed her eyes and looked at Jasper, "Mr. Foster, I'm curious, Why would you go out without an assistant?"
Jasper, who had been sneaking glances at Adeline upstairs, narrowed his eyes slightly, "I already told you; they're tired and resting."
Daisy smirked as she instructed Lester to eliminate everyone except Jasper. She then turned to Jasper with a smile.
"It's my fault. They are utterly exhausted and truly in need of rest."
She put down her phone and elegantly moved closer to Jasper.
"I wonder how much you know about Oceancrest City. Our Phoebe family, being one of the two major families in Oceancrest City, can kill without facing consequences."
Jasper smirked and leaned in, "Ms. Phoebe, if you want to kill someone, you have to find them first."
In a suite at a five-star hotel in Oceancrest City, the door was kicked open.
Lester and his men, armed, stormed in.
The room was empty except for a bunch of running computers.
Everyone who entered was stunned.
Where were they?
At that moment, a swivel chair slowly turned around.
In the chair sat a six-year-old boy with a lollipop in his mouth and a baseball cap on.
The boy smiled at Lester, "Mr. Harrison, are you looking for me?"
Lester's eyes widened as he said, "Joseph? How could it be you?"
