Chapter 237 I Don't Believe She Would Do Such a Thing
Smack!
Before anyone could react, a loud slap echoed through the living room.
Adeline's face was turned to one side, blood slowly trickling from the corner of her mouth.
"Mommy!"
"Mommy!"
The children on either side of Lily reflexively leaped off the sofa and raced to Adeline.
One cautiously held her hand to protect her while the other calmly collected tissues for Adeline.
Seeing the two children protect Adeline made Jasper frown slightly.
Stella beside him sneered inwardly, but her face was filled with concern. "Bennett, bring your sister over."
Stella glanced at the boy handing tissues to Adeline. "This is between Nathan and Adeline. It's an adult matter. You shouldn't be involved."
Bennett glared at her coldly, then returned to help Adeline with Lauren.
Stella pretended to be considerate and turned to Nathan. "Dad, what are you doing? You're scaring the children."
Nathan snorted, "What am I doing? Doesn't Adeline know what she did!?"
Adeline took the tissue from Bennett, wiping the blood from her lips as she sneered. "Mr. Foster, at your age, is this how you express your emotions—by hitting women? Impressive!"
Nathan's face was full of rage. "Do you know why I hit you?"
Nathan glared at Adeline. "I've known Morris for nearly thirty years! I know exactly what kind of person he is. If you hadn't pushed him to the edge, he wouldn't have targeted a woman like you!"
He stared at Adeline with eyes full of fury. "Tell me, how did you kill Evelyn Quinn?"
Adeline paused.
She then licked her lips and smirked coldly. "So, Mr. Foster thinks I killed Evelyn. That's why Morris did those terrible things to me and ended up getting caught?"
Nathan glared at her, eyes wide with anger. "Isn't it true? You killed his only daughter. Isn't that a fact?"
Adeline looked at him coldly, her gaze as icy as a frozen lake. "Oh? I killed Evelyn?"
She adjusted her posture and sat comfortably on the nearby sofa.
Bennett and Lauren sat on either side of her.
Lauren shielded Adeline with her hand, glaring at Nathan as if ready to protect her mother. She was even ready to bite Nathan if he tried to strike again.
Bennett sat with his arms crossed, mirroring Adeline's posture, and stared at Nathan with a look of disdain that seemed more fitting for an enemy than a grandfather.
This sight only fueled Nathan's anger.
These children were part of the Foster family, carrying Foster blood!
Yet, in a conflict between him and Adeline, they sided with her and looked at him with hostility.
Nathan glared at Jasper. "Control your children! They are Fosters, not Wilsons!"
Jasper calmly sipped his tea. "I can't control them."
"My relationship with these two is like your relationship with me."
"In the six years they lived their lives, I never gave them any help or care. So they won't listen to me."
Jasper glanced indifferently at Nathan. "Just like there are many things you say that I won't listen to."
He gracefully placed his empty teacup back on the table. "As you said, they are Fosters. You should also know that Adeline raised them for six years. I suggest you treat Adeline more respectfully, or the children might not recognize you as their grandfather anymore."
Nathan's face turned a deep shade of blue with anger.
Meanwhile, Adeline giggled at Nathan's displeasure. "Mr. Nathan Foster, do you have any evidence that I caused Evelyn's death?"
"Isn't it necessary to see evidence before judging whether someone is guilty of harming others?"
Adeline crossed her legs, her voice indifferent, "Evelyn committed suicide by jumping off a building."
"Did I force Evelyn to jump off with a knife, or did I push her?"
Adeline added, "If I remember correctly when Evelyn jumped, I was visiting her ex-husband with my friend at the hospital."
"The hospital corridors and elevators have surveillance cameras, so I have a perfect alibi."
Nathan snorted. "Do you think you had to be there when she jumped for you to be responsible for her death?"
He squinted. "Don't think I don't know that Morris forced her to leave Victoria Hollow City because of you before she jumped! Evelyn, the pride of her family, was forced to part from her father and leave the city she had lived in all her life because of a woman like you. How could she bear that?"
Adeline sneered.
"Unreasonable. Are you talking about yourself, Mr. Nathan Foster?"
She took a deep breath and continued, "Do you know why Morris forced Evelyn to leave Victoria Hollow City?"
"If you haven't heard what she did to me, I'll repeat it."
"I came to Victoria Hollow City to work for the Foster Group. During a welcoming party, Evelyn deliberately snubbed me. She invited me but intentionally removed my name from the guest list."
"During a factory inspection, she arranged for a lecherous man to accompany me, who harassed me verbally and physically, trying to take advantage of me multiple times."
"In the workshop, an unexpected accident occurred. A huge boulder came flying towards me. If Mr. Jasper Foster hadn't shielded me, I'd be in the hospital right now, unable to get out of bed."
"Of course, that's not even the worst of it."
Adeline took another deep breath and looked directly at the enraged Nathan.
"That night, Mrs. Foster and Ms. Quinn arranged for some bosses to get me drunk. Ms. Quinn took advantage of my intoxication and sent six or seven male escorts to my hotel room to humiliate me."
"Finally, she threatened my friend with her father's life, forcing him to publicly declare that I was the one who ruined Mr. Foster's family."
After laying out all these events, Adeline looked at Nathan with icy eyes. "Mr. Foster, if Ms. Quinn were not your friend's daughter if she harmed your loved ones."
"Tell me, would you let her off?"
"She has done so much. If I were to report her, she wouldn't just be asked to leave Victoria Hollow City. It would be much more severe."
Adeline's eyes were sharp.
"Mr. Foster, out of consideration for the Quinn Family and your friendship, I have already taken a step back."
"In the end, Ms. Quinn couldn't bear this injustice and committed suicide."
"Do you blame me for this?"
Nathan's face turned from red to black and back again.
His hands clenched into fists at his sides.
"You're talking nonsense!"
"Evelyn was not like that!"
Nathan gritted his teeth. "Evelyn was a sweet, obedient girl. Her only stubbornness was wanting to marry Jasper!"
"She was gentle, kind, and considerate. All these years, she only lost her mind for Jasper."
"But she had long lost interest in Jasper. Even if she had, you were not the one she would deal with!"
"I don't believe she would do such a thing, absolutely not!"
He then turned to Jasper. "Jasper, what do you think?"
As he turned his head, he froze abruptly.
Beside Jasper, Stella's eyes were filled with tears of excitement.
Her tearful eyes looked precisely like Evelyn's from many years ago.
