Chapter 87 Mistaken for Adeline

The moment Jasper's words pierced the air, the private room fell into a hush. Every eye turned towards him and Adeline, their expressions frozen in anticipation. Jasper's implication was crystal clear. Adeline had just described her last partner as ugly, dirty, and diseased. Now Jasper was confronting her, asking what illness he supposedly had...

Christopher took a step back, his expression one of disbelief. "Mr. Foster, you're joking, right?" Throughout Denver, Jasper was renowned for his integrity and strong moral fiber. He harbored deep affection and loyalty towards his ex-wife, Adeline. To avoid causing her any undue concern, he never attended parties with women while she was alive. After her death, he drank himself into a gastric hemorrhage...and even agreed to a platonic engagement with her sister, all to take care of her sibling.

Just days ago, at his birthday banquet, Jasper had announced the news of Adeline's supposed death, calling off his engagement with Molly and expressing his intent to search for Adeline. The internet was abuzz with discussions of Jasper's unwavering love. And now, was this man admitting in front of all these people that he had spent the night with this woman?

Was this some kind of joke?

"No joke." Jasper's lips curled into a faint smile as he pulled Adeline into his embrace. "I heard someone was trying to lay hands on my woman?"

His woman.

Those two words detonated like a bomb in the room, leaving everyone's face looking as if they had seen a ghost. They wanted to gossip but didn't dare; they were bursting with curiosity but had to contain it.

Christopher's face went through a kaleidoscope of colors—red, white, then ashen. It took him a moment to find his voice. "Mr. Foster, I didn't mean..." He stammered, "It was just a joke with Miss Wilson..."

"The kind of jokes Christopher enjoys should be reserved for his wife." Jasper's voice was light, but the edge was unmistakable. He then turned to address someone behind him, "Is this the caliber of your staff? Enlightening."

Jason Smith, standing outside the door, turned an ashen hue. His frown deepened. "I'll handle it."

"Good." Jasper nodded slightly, his gaze on Adeline now laced with a threat. "Do you want to stay here and play games with Christopher, or will you leave with me?"

Adeline was torn. She didn't want to choose either option. But Jasper had just publicly claimed her as his woman; she couldn't just slap his face right there and then. Her earlier words had already angered him. If she provoked him further, she couldn't predict what he might do. After all, in her current state, she wasn't even a servant in his household. What was to stop him from doing whatever he wanted with her?

With these thoughts swirling in her mind, Adeline offered a flirtatious smile and snuggled closer, her fingers drawing idle patterns on his chest. "Of course, I'll go with my dear Jasper."

After casting a dismissive glance at Christopher, she added, "I have no interest in playing games with him."

Christopher's face turned the color of liver. Watching him struggle to control his anger, Adeline couldn't help but feel a rush of satisfaction. She gave Jasper a sidelong glance and said sweetly, "Dear, let's go."

As she finished speaking, she instinctively looked up at him, only to find him staring intensely back at her. Their eyes locked, her look one of surprise, his fiery. Adeline pursed her lips, about to look away, but Jasper swept her up in his arms and strode out of the private room.

Jasper carried Adeline straight out of the bar and dumped her into his luxury car with considerable force. Although the plush leather seats cushioned her fall and she wasn't hurt, his actions were far from gentle, and she felt a twinge of pain.

Struggling to sit up in the back seat, she was interrupted by Jasper's looming presence. The car door slammed shut, sealing them into a world of their own. Adeline's mind reeled with panic. She began to struggle fiercely. "Let me go!"

"You said I was sick, didn't you?" Jasper's voice was harsh as he pinned her down. "If I don't share this 'illness' with you tonight, how can I live up to your slander?"

Tonight he had discovered her lies. What if he hadn't? Would she have continued to defame him to other men, flaunting herself while fabricating stories?

The thought of the evening's earlier events caused Jasper's eyes to darken. He pinned her hands above her head without a word.

Adeline clenched her teeth. She wanted to fight back. But reason told her that this was not the time to struggle. She needed to cooperate; Blake's condition was still waiting for her to resolve.

With a sudden resolve, she let out a soft chuckle. "Mr. Foster, can't resist, can you?" She turned around, her hands reaching for his neck, and planted a kiss on his Adam's apple. "Won't you reconsider my earlier proposition? I promise to take very good care of you."

She deliberately raised the pitch of her voice at the end, her tone seductive like a kitten's purr.

Jasper's gaze turned icy. "Get out!" In the next second, he zipped up his jacket, pushed her away, and opened the car door. "Get out!"

Caught off guard by his reaction, Adeline was baffled. She knew him well from their previous marriage; he had been on the brink of giving in just moments ago. She had merely made a small request.

What was going on with this man...

"If you don't get out now," Jasper's deep voice warned, "I'll call Christopher over."

Adeline's face drained of color. Any flicker of positive feeling she had for Jasper's handling of Christopher vanished in an instant. She snorted disdainfully, straightened her clothes, and stepped out of the car.

With a loud bang, she slammed the car door shut. Taking a few steps away, her anger flared, and she couldn't help but shoot a glare back at the car. He was clearly unable to resist, yet he had sent her away. If he had such self-control, why had he been with her the previous night?

Whether it was six years ago or now, his hypocrisy hadn't changed one bit!

With that thought, she gave the car a few more glares before storming off.

After she left, a dark figure emerged from behind a pillar in the parking lot. Jason Smith gracefully opened the car door and slid in. "Shall I take you for a cold shower?"

The car was dark, and Jasper sat shrouded in shadows, his voice still hoarse and suppressed. "Let's go."

"Why bother?" Jason handed him a bottle of mineral water. "That woman was quite attractive, and she had a great figure."

"She just got out of the car, cursing you, saying she wanted to suffocate you."

Jasper twisted the cap off the mineral water and took a sip. "I won't die."

Adeline had been gone for six years, and he was still alive, wasn't he?

"Whatever." Jason shrugged. "If your self-control is so strong, what happened last night?"

Jasper's grip on the water bottle tightened slightly.

Last night... In his drunken state, he had mistaken her for Adeline.
