Chapter 304 Why Are You Throwing Dirt on Me?

Adeline's words hit hard. Aurora's face twisted with rage.

"How dare you!" she screamed, her voice high-pitched. "Are you trying to show off your money? That belongs to my son!"

Adeline smirked. "Mrs. Carter, I owe you an apology. Yesterday, I called you a shrew."

'An apology? From her?' Aurora blinked, shocked.

"At least you know your place," she said, smiling smugly.

"Yes," Adeline continued, her voice icy, "I shouldn't have insulted the shrew. Even a shrew has some cunning."

"But you, madam, seem completely brainless."

Aurora's eyes widened, her composure cracking. "What are you saying?" she stammered.

"What am I saying?" Adeline echoed, full of disdain. She picked up the check Aurora had thrown at her and tore it up, letting the pieces fall. "I'm a world-renowned artist, and you think five million is enough to get rid of me?"

"A mother who puts a price on her own son's head. How is that not foolish?"

She looked around the room, her gaze landing back on Aurora.

"And for your information," Adeline said, pulling out a stack of certificates, "these are my international accolades. Every piece I design sells for millions."

"Five million to leave Sebastian? That's insulting, even for you."

She had left these certificates abroad to protect her new identity, but Bennett had sent them back. Fate had a way of helping out at the right time.

The room fell silent. Aurora stared at the certificates, her face pale.

"Adeline!" she hissed, her voice barely a whisper. "You... you..."

Before she could say more, Ava, fueled by anger, grabbed a broom and charged at Adeline.

Just as the broom was about to hit, a hand grabbed Ava's wrist. With a swift move, she was thrown back, hitting the wall with a thud.

"Oof!"

Ava crumpled to the floor, pain shooting through her. She looked up, her yelling stopped halfway, "I won't let you get away...".

Standing over her, looking both menacing and amused, was Jasper, the man she had met the night before.

"You won't let me get away with this?" he asked softly. He glanced at Ava's friends, who were being subdued by Ryan and his team. "Like them?"

Ava's bravado vanished. She looked around, realizing the tables had turned.

"Mr. Foster," she stammered, her voice shaking, "why would you protect her?"

Jasper smiled coldly. "And what makes you think you can cause a scene at the Foster Group?"

He walked across the room, moving gracefully, and picked up the discarded banner, letting it unfurl.

"Adeline, kneel and apologize?" he read aloud, amused. He looked back at Ava, his eyes cold. "Since you want someone to apologize, you can beg Adeline's forgiveness. On your knees."

Jasper turned his gaze to Aurora, his expression hardening. "And you, Mrs. Carter? Care to join her?"

Aurora flushed, her anger clashing with unease.

"Jasper," she said, her voice trembling, "I am Andrew's wife!"

"And does that grant you immunity?" Jasper cut her off, his voice icy. "Are you above apologizing for your actions?"

"What actions?" Aurora shot back, her defiance returning. "I spoke the truth!"

She glared at Adeline, her eyes burning with hatred. "Mr. Foster, I know you're her lover. Naturally, you'd defend her."

"But she slept with your assistant! With the security guards! Doesn't that disgust you?"

Jasper's eyes narrowed, but he stayed silent.

Adeline laughed, a melodic sound that cut through the tension. She settled into a chair, relaxed yet commanding.

"Mrs. Carter," she said, her voice mild, "you seem to have forgotten our conversation yesterday."

"What?" Aurora scoffed. "Are you threatening to sue me now?"

"You claim I'm spreading rumors," Aurora continued, ignoring the interruption. "But those vile accusations were first uttered by Mr Foster's wife, Stella."

"If you want to sue someone, Adeline, sue her."

She knew Aurora wouldn't dare. In Aurora's mind, Adeline was just Jasper's mistress, and mistresses knew their place.

Before she could respond, Adeline turned to Jasper. "Mr. Foster, did you hear that?"

Jasper smiled, a dangerous glint in his eyes. He pulled out his phone and dialed Stella's number, putting the call on speaker.

"Mrs. Carter has something she'd like to share with you."

Aurora frowned, caught off guard. She hadn't expected Jasper to involve Stella so directly. But she wasn't afraid. She had nothing to hide.

She glared at Adeline, then spoke into the phone, "Mrs. Foster, Mr. Foster thinks I'm spreading rumors. But you told me those things yourself, didn't you?"

Downstairs, in a quiet café, Stella rolled her eyes. She had planned to keep Aurora around a bit longer, but the woman was proving to be more trouble than she was worth. A loose cannon. No wonder her own son ignored her.

Taking a deep breath, Stella adopted a tone of wounded innocence. "Mrs. Carter, I'm not sure what you're talking about."

Aurora frowned, misinterpreting Stella's confusion.

"Mrs. Foster," she repeated, her voice rising in frustration, "you told me those things about Adeline. I'm not making this up!"

"I have no idea what you're referring to," Stella replied, her voice a mix of confusion and hurt. "While I may not always agree with Adeline, I would never spread such vicious lies about her. She's a woman of impeccable taste and wouldn't be caught dead with those security guards."

"Besides," she added, her voice laced with a touch of venom, "Adeline isn't the type to stoop to such shameless behavior. You must be mistaken, Mrs. Carter."

"In fact," she continued, her voice hardening, "the person who made those crude remarks about Adeline's promiscuity was mydear husband, Jasper. Not me."

"I would never," she finished, her voice dripping with icy disdain, "sully my lips with such slander."

"So, I must ask, Mrs. Carter, why are you trying to drag my name through the mud?"
