Chapter 30 Building Relationships
"She didn't do anything wrong. Bringing trouble to the master is the biggest mistake, but she didn't bring any trouble to me," Jasper furrowed his brows and said in a calm voice.
Madam Foster angrily knocked her cane, "But she brought trouble to Molly! Molly is the future mistress of Blue Bay and also her master!"
The man turned his head and looked at Molly coldly, "Do you think the same?"
His words made Molly's face pale slightly.
She pursed her lips and took a step back, pretending to be aggrieved, lowering her head, "I've explained it to Grandma many times. These are all speculations from those people online. We don't need to be affected by others' speculations..."
"Speculations?" Madam Foster glared at her, "What, do you have to wait until that maid really plots against Jasper and something happens between her and Jasper before you're willing to drive her away? What if she ends up pregnant?"
"What on earth should I do with this pregnancy?" The old madam finished speaking and then stared coldly at Jasper. "I'll ask you one question. Should we fire this maid or not?"
"Not fire her."
The old madam looked at Jasper with indifference. "I'm not unreasonable. Give me a reason why you insist on keeping her. If she truly has a reason to stay, I won't stop you. But if not, you're definitely under her spell!"
Jasper furrowed his brows, "There is a reason for me to keep her. It's just not convenient to say it now."
He needed to find a suitable opportunity to reveal Lauren's true identity, bringing her back to the Foster family with great dignity, rather than having her quietly return to his side.
Besides, he wanted to surprise his family with Lauren's appearance.
Therefore, Jasper planned to bring Lauren to the old madam's birthday celebration in a few days, catching everyone off guard, giving his family a surprise, and also giving Lauren a status.
For now, he couldn't inform the old madam about Lauren's existence.
She couldn't keep things to herself. Once she knew, it would mean the entire Foster family would know, and that would complicate matters.
Molly took advantage of Jasper's reluctance to reveal Lauren's identity before causing trouble.
"Having a reason to keep her but refusing to say it, what's the difference from not having a reason at all!" The old madam slammed her cane fiercely. "I don't care what you're up to, but let me tell you, today you either drive that woman away or immediately decide on a wedding date with Molly! She has been your fiancée for five years, and now you spread rumors with a maid. You have to provide an explanation!"
Jasper lifted his eyes to the old madam with a cold voice, "I won't drive away the maid, nor will I decide on a wedding date with Molly. If you insist, I don't mind canceling the engagement right now."
His words instantly made the office fall silent.
The old madam stared at Jasper in shock, "You dare!"
"I'm not afraid of anything."
"You don't even listen to me anymore!" The old madam's face turned pale with anger. "I warn you today, either you drive away that maid or you marry Molly immediately! Otherwise, don't come to see me, and my birthday banquet doesn't need a disobedient grandchild like you!"
After saying that, she angrily leaned on her cane and let the butler assist her as she left.
"Jasper!"
After the old madam left, Molly walked over with a helpless expression, cautiously tugging on Jasper's sleeve. "I really tried to convince Grandma, but she wouldn't listen to me..."
"Is that so?" Jasper faintly curved his lips and his gaze turned icy.
"She is already in her eighties and doesn't even know how to use the internet normally. How is it that when Adeline and I went shopping in the morning, she already knew about the news online in the afternoon and understood it so well?"
The man's words made Molly's face turn pale.
She pursed her lips and asked, "Jasper, are you suspecting me?"
"I just find it too coincidental," Jasper coldly sat down on the boss chair and his gaze fell sharply on Molly. "Originally, I planned to wait until grandma's birthday banquet to announce the annulment of our engagement. It would have been more official, and there would have been more people at the banquet. We wouldn't have to explain too much to others about this matter in the future."
"But..." A hint of coldness appeared on the man's lips. "Looking at the current situation, I won't be able to wait until that day. How about we announce the annulment of our engagement today?"
Molly panicked.
She bit her lip, feigned composure on her face, but her heart had already started to tremble.
"Jasper, it's not the right time... Just this morning, the photos of you and the maid shopping together were just released. If you announce the annulment of our engagement this afternoon, people will think that you are really involved with that woman. They will think that you are canceling the engagement because of her."
Jasper found it amusing. "Whatever others say or think, does it matter to me?"
"What about Adeline?" Helplessly, Molly had to bring up Adeline. "She misunderstood you. Don't you care?"
The man's face slightly froze.
Seeing his reaction, Molly took a deep breath and lowered her voice, "Brother-in-law, you need to know that it was my sister who left a letter, saying that she wanted you to be engaged to me and take good care of me. Now Lauren's appearance proves that my sister didn't die. Since she was able to bring back Lauren, she must also be secretly observing you. If you cancel the engagement with me now, in the eyes of outsiders, it will be because of that maid. If my sister knows that you're willing to cancel the engagement for the sake of a maid... Will she still come back for you?"
The woman's words made Jasper fall silent.
He closed his eyes and Adeline's pure eyes appeared in his mind.
Indeed. He could ignore anyone's misunderstanding, but he couldn't ignore Adeline.
She was the only person in this world that he felt sorry for and the only person he wanted to cherish and protect.
"So, brother-in-law," Molly carefully poured tea for Jasper. "Rest assured, I will not refuse to annul our engagement. It's just that now is not the right time. What do you think?"
