Chapter 610 Secretly Testing the Parent-Child Relationship
Bennett squinted at Freya, looking a bit puzzled. "How'd you figure that out?"
Freya shrugged and pointed at the test results. "Both your blood and Blake's have these two special proteins, which you got from your parents. Your dad, Jasper, was my patient once. I tested him, and he didn't have those proteins. So, you and Blake must've gotten them from your mom."
Bennett glanced at her, "I told you, our moms are biological sisters."
Freya frowned, thinking it over. 'Even for biological sisters, it's super rare for both to have these proteins and pass them on. If this boy and Blake aren't identical twins, it's almost impossible for them to both have these proteins.'
She took a deep breath, still unsure how to explain this to a six-year-old, when a small voice came from upstairs. "Molly and my mommy aren't biological sisters."
Lauren slowly walked down the stairs, "Molly told my mommy herself that she was mistakenly taken home from the orphanage by our grandpa."
Bennett's brow furrowed deeply.
Blake came downstairs holding a laptop; he and Lauren sat on either side of Bennett.
Blake extended his arm to Freya, "Doctor."
Freya nodded and quickly drew Blake's blood for retesting.
Bennett looked at Lauren, "But my mommy said."
Lauren pouted, "If you don't believe me, you can give Molly and my mommy a DNA test."
"Anyway, Daddy said he's taking you for a DNA test in a few days. You can just take Molly's DNA and our mommy's DNA along. Check if Molly and our mommy are really sisters, and check if you're really Molly's biological son." Lauren couldn't help but wink at Blake.
Her real intention was clear. If she directly asked Bennett and Adeline to do a DNA test, Bennett would definitely refuse. Since losing his memory, he believed Molly was his mother and saw Adeline and the others as his enemies. Bennett wouldn't believe or accept that he was the child of his enemies; he would think they were deliberately humiliating him.
But if she said Molly and Adeline weren't sisters and asked him to verify it, he would definitely agree. He would collect Molly's DNA and Adeline's DNA, then do a DNA test with his own. When the truth was in front of him, Bennett would surely believe his true identity!
The more Lauren thought about it, the smarter she felt, "It's settled then, Liam. I also want to know if my mommy and Molly, with such different personalities, are really sisters!"
Bennett furrowed his brow and looked at Lauren's face. He felt that Lauren's words today were somewhat deliberate.
"I'll think about it." After saying this, he went upstairs with his Rubik's cube.
Back in the children's room, Bennett lay on the bunk bed, staring at the wall, tossing and turning, with the doctor's words echoing in his mind.
"You and Blake are definitely brothers with the same father and mother."
Bennett closed his eyes, struggling to comprehend. How could that be? But if the doctor had no evidence, why would she say such a thing? Moreover, after spending the day together, he noticed that he and Blake shared many habits besides their identical appearance.
For instance, while Lauren preferred sweet and strong-flavored foods, he and Blake did not. Additionally, when Blake was in a bad mood, he liked to stare into space, just like Bennett did. The more Bennett thought about it, the more uneasy he felt, like a heavy stone was pressing on his chest, impossible to ignore.
After a while, he couldn't hold it in anymore. He grabbed his phone, went downstairs, and called from the small garden in the back.
Molly had just parted ways with Rex when she got Bennett's call. She lay on the hotel sofa, looking at the number on her phone, her brow slightly furrowed.
If she remembered right, they had agreed to contact each other every three days. It had only been a day, and he was already calling?
Molly squinted and answered the call.
"Mother," Bennett's voice came through, "Are you and Adeline really biological sisters?"
Molly furrowed her brow, "Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
Bennett took a deep breath and cautiously spoke, "Lauren just said that you and Adeline aren't biological sisters."
Molly squinted her eyes, "Why did this come up?"
Bennett said, "A doctor came to Blue Bay just now. She said Blake and I should be brothers with the same father and mother. I also feel that Blake and I have many similar habits and preferences, but I thought it was because you and Adeline are biological sisters. But Lauren said you aren't biological sisters."
Bennett bit his lip, feeling a bit guilty as he asked, "Mother, should I not be concerned about these questions? Should I not ask you this?"
Molly had always been strict and cold towards him. In the past, when Bennett had concerns, he would talk to Sebastian. But now that Sebastian was locked up, and he was in the Foster family's home, his enemy's home.
Ultimately, Bennett was a six-year-old child, unable to process some emotions on his own. After much deliberation, he decided to call Molly.
On the other end, Molly squinted her eyes. She hadn't expected that after just one day back there, Bennett would start questioning these things.
Originally, Molly thought that with Bennett's inherent trust in her, neither Adeline nor Jasper could shake him within three days. But she had overlooked Blake and Lauren, those two kids! Children were indeed more likely to believe their peers and be misled by them.
Thinking of this, she squinted her eyes, and a new idea came to her mind.
"Liam," Molly took a deep breath, her gaze fixed on the world outside the floor-to-ceiling window. "I never wanted to tell you this. But now, since you are already questioning your and Blake's identities, I have to tell you the truth."
"Actually," she sighed, "when I gave birth to you, I didn't just give birth to you alone."
On the other end of the phone, Bennett's eyes widened instantly, "Mother, what do you mean?"
Molly hesitated for a moment before speaking. "When I was pregnant, the doctor said I was carrying twins or triplets. All these years, I haven't been sure how many children I actually gave birth to. When I saw Blake, who looks exactly like you, I also wondered if Blake was my child."
After saying this, she took a deep breath, "Liam, I recently found a center that can give the fastest DNA test results, but they said to get the fastest verification of parentage, the people need to go to the center and have their blood drawn at the same time."
She added, "Can you find a chance to bring Blake and Lauren out secretly? I want to take them to do a paternity test."
