Chapter 799 Exchange Jasper to Beg for Mercy
Adeline's question left Howard speechless.
He turned away, unable to meet Adeline's intense gaze.
Howard cleared his throat, covering his mouth with a fist, and looked at the garden beside him. With his profile to Adeline, he began to speak slowly, "Adeline, I know you're still grieving the loss of your child."
"But Daisy had nothing to do with your child's death."
"Daisy came here with her child to visit you and your mother out of kindness."
He turned back to look at Adeline. "Isn't it a bit too harsh for you and your friends to treat Daisy this way and even push over the maid holding Patty?"
"Harsh?" Adeline turned and sat under the parasol, pulling Linda to join her for breakfast.
"If what I did was harsh, then what about what your precious daughter Daisy did to me? Wasn't that heartless?"
Howard frowned. "Adeline, if you put yourself in Daisy's shoes, you'd see she meant no harm."
Adeline laughed out loud.
"Put myself in her shoes? Who's putting themselves in my shoes? You?"
Howard paused.
He hadn't expected that in just a month, Adeline had not only emerged from the pain of losing her child but had also become so sharp-tongued.
Or perhaps she had always been this way but had never shown this side to the Phoebe Family?
Howard's mind was a mess, and he didn't know what to say.
His gaze fell on the nearby trash can.
Inside, several black and gold wedding invitations lay quietly.
Clearly, they were invitations to Daisy and Brandon's wedding.
He took a deep breath, walked over, and picked up the invitations.
Fortunately, the trash can was clean, and the invitations were still spotless.
Howard wiped the invitations with his sleeve and gently placed them on the table where Adeline was eating.
"Since you've moved past the shadow of your child's death... You should attend Brandon and Daisy's wedding in three days."
"You are a member of the Phoebe Family, and you were once engaged to Brandon. If you don't show up, people will think there's discord within the Phoebe Family, causing unnecessary trouble."
Adeline took a sip of milk, a mocking smile on her lips.
She glanced in the direction Daisy had left with Patty, a hint of coldness in her eyes.
"Does Mr. Phoebe think our family is all harmonious and loving?"
Howard's face turned pale.
Even if he didn't say it, the answer was obvious.
Adeline lowered her head and gently stirred her food with a spoon.
"The Phoebe Family has never been harmonious. Are we really afraid of people talking?"
She smiled, not looking up.
"I don't like pretending everything is fine, and I don't like acting."
"I won't go to their wedding."
Adeline's words made Howard narrow his eyes.
"Adeline!"
He looked angrily at the calm Adeline before him.
"For nearly a year, you've been here taking care of your pregnancy and your health, ignoring the Phoebe Family's affairs."
"Do you know that the Phoebe Family has been almost driven to the brink by Jasper's Foster Group?"
"We can only resist Jasper by allying with the Torres Family through marriage."
"For a year, I didn't ask you to do anything for the Phoebe Family because you were pregnant and your child's identity was special."
"But Daisy? She was also pregnant, yet she stood by my side during the Phoebe Family's most difficult times, helping with the Phoebe Group's affairs, running around with her big belly."
"You and she are different, and I don't blame you."
"After all, you have no interest in handling the group's affairs and wouldn't do well even if you tried."
"But this wedding only requires you to put on a show and give your blessings to Brandon and Daisy. You won't even do that?"
He grew more and more furious.
"I've really spoiled you!"
Adeline smirked. "Since I'm so different from Daisy and have disappointed Mr. Phoebe so much... why did Mr. Phoebe insist on bringing me back and making me swear not to see Jasper?"
She elegantly put down her fork.
"I thought Mr. Phoebe did all that because he genuinely liked me and treated me as his own daughter."
"Now it seems..."
She smiled.
"Mr. Phoebe insisted on bringing me back because of my identity as Jasper's ex-wife and Brandon's fiancée, right?"
"Back then, I was useful to the Phoebe Family."
"Now that I'm no longer useful, Mr. Phoebe thinks I'm worthless, right?"
Adeline's words made Howard's blood pressure spike.
His face turned red with anger.
"Adeline! How can you say that!"
"You are my biological daughter. Whether you're useful or not, I would have brought you back to the Phoebe Family!"
But over the past year, Adeline, his biological daughter, had spent her days caring for Zara and cautiously protecting Jasper's child in her womb.
Meanwhile, Daisy, his adopted daughter, had been tirelessly helping with the Phoebe Group's affairs during his most desperate times.
The contrast between the two daughters was too stark.
He couldn't help but weigh them against each other in his mind and inevitably showed favoritism.
In a distant room in the garden, Daisy watched Adeline and Howard through the window.
One was red-faced with anger, the other gripping her fork tightly.
"Looks like the battle is intense."
She turned around, holding Patty, and looked at the woman on the bed.
Zara had been in a coma for over eight months.
During these eight months, her appearance and figure had hardly changed.
Her complexion was rosy, and her expression was serene.
From a distance, she looked like she was just sleeping, not someone who had been bedridden for over half a year.
Daisy sighed, looking at Zara's face, her voice incredibly gentle.
"Did you hear that? Your husband and your biological daughter are arguing."
She began to play with Patty's little hand.
"Zara, are you anxious?"
"Do you want to know why they're arguing?"
"I'll tell you. They're arguing because of me... After you fell into a coma, Oliver and Adeline distanced themselves from Howard. Only I, the adopted daughter, stayed to take care of him and comfort him."
"How could I not take this opportunity to win his favor and make him dislike Adeline?"
"Today, I told him to make sure Adeline attends my wedding, and now he's over there arguing with her! Ha ha!"
She laughed wildly for a long time before calming down.
"By the way, did you hear the sound of the baby in my arms?"
"This is a little girl, almost a month old. Everyone thinks she's mine and Brandon's, but she's not."
Daisy lowered Patty's hand to touch Zara's skin.
"This is Adeline and Jasper's daughter."
"Brandon says she's a pawn in our hands, and I should take good care of her."
"Maybe one day, we can use one of her fingers or toes to make Jasper beg us."
