Chapter 466 I Gave It to Bennett
After Luna bailed, Lucia barged into Adeline's office, fuming as she stared at the design draft Luna had handed in. "Man, she's really crossed the line this time! She could've made these tweaks herself! Heck, any clerk could've done it! You're the design director; why should you be fixing her mess?"
Lucia then glanced up at Adeline. "Hey, Adeline, isn't your real identity Moon? With your rep, you probably know a bunch of the international judges for tomorrow's competition, right? Why not just be yourself and chat them up to make sure the Foster Group's team loses?"
The more Lucia talked, the more she thought it was a genius plan. "If you can't win, then Luna shouldn't either!"
Adeline gave a wry smile and shook her head. "Besides Luna and me, there are eight other folks on the team. They've all busted their butts for this competition for over half a month. Should their hard work go to waste just because Luna and I have a beef?"
"Forget it." Adeline sighed, picked up the draft, and started making changes bit by bit. "I've been pushed around by Jasper more times than I can count. I don't care anymore."
Seeing her like this, Lucia felt a pang of discomfort.
After leaving Adeline's office, Lucia hesitated for a long time before finally heading to Jasper's office. She knew that, given her status, she shouldn't be seeking out Jasper. But Lucia always felt that she and Jasper had some distant familial connection. What if he listened to her?
However, Lucia didn't expect that as she approached Jasper's office, she would hear Ryan's voice before she could knock. "Mr. Foster, Ms. Jones's condition is currently stable. The doc said that with the meds to keep her calm, she should be able to make it through the competition tomorrow."
After Ryan finished speaking, Jasper's cold voice echoed from the office. "And what about the other issue?"
Ryan said, "You mean Ms. Jones's terminal illness? The doc mentioned they still haven't found a specific cure; she probably has just a year left."
Lucia's eyes widened. Her hand, poised to knock, froze in mid-air.
Lucia thought, 'Luna has a terminal illness and only one year left to live?'
Lucia was stunned for a long time, ultimately lacking the courage to knock on Jasper's door.
Lucia thought, 'In that case, wouldn't it mean that if Adeline stays in Radiance Springs for just one more year, she and Jasper could finally be together?'
Thinking of this, Lucia hurriedly turned and rushed back to Adeline's office to share the good news. Maybe Jasper's kindness to Luna was because she was terminally ill!
Unexpectedly, when Lucia burst into Adeline's office, Adeline had already finished revising Luna's draft and left. Sitting in Adeline's chair was Luna. She reclined in the seat that Adeline had once occupied, as if she were the true mistress of the office.
Seeing Lucia enter, Luna smirked. "Lucia, do you think it's appropriate for me to sit here?"
Lucia's excitement instantly vanished. With a cold expression, she muttered a few words of praise before turning to leave.
Once outside the office, Lucia anxiously called Adeline. "Adeline, I think there's still hope for you and Mr. Foster! I just overheard Mr. Foster and Ryan talking. Luna has a terminal illness and only one year left to live!"
At that moment, Adeline was chilling in the backyard of Blue Bay with Blake and Lauren. Holding the phone, she painted the garden scene on her sketchpad and smiled. "So what? Luna has a terminal illness, and you believe that lie?"
From the way Luna had been bragging earlier about wanting to have four kids with Jasper, Adeline didn't buy that Luna was terminally ill. Blake had once been terminally ill, and Adeline knew all too well what a terminally ill patient looked like.
Besides, even if Luna were terminally ill, would that justify Jasper's mistreatment and manipulation of her? What was her relationship with Luna? Why should she cooperate with Jasper to show Luna any care?
Adeline's words left Lucia momentarily dumbfounded. Yeah, even if Luna were terminally ill, it didn't justify Jasper's treatment of Adeline.
Lucia bit her lip, unsure of what to say, and finally hung up the phone awkwardly.
After putting away her phone, Adeline looked up and helplessly glanced at Blake, who was still fiddling with his laptop. "Mommy finally has time to play with you and Lauren at home. Can you stop staring at the computer for a while?"
Blake frowned, looking at the videos online, and furrowed his brows. "Strange. I just finished writing the code to crack my own virus, and those videos that were previously bound with the virus and couldn't be deleted have all disappeared overnight."
Blake scratched his head. "Very strange."
Adeline shrugged and ruffled Blake's hair. "What's so strange about that?"
She hadn't known who had made those videos before, but after Luna's hint, she realized those videos were likely released by Jasper to force her to give up her leadership position in the team. Now that Luna had become the team leader, their goal had been achieved, so they would delete the videos.
"No." Blake shook his head firmly. "I'm certain those virus-bound videos couldn't have been made by Jasper's people. Mommy, do you remember when Molly used online rumors to hurt you? At that time, I bound those videos with my virus. No one in Jasper's company could crack it. They couldn't crack it themselves, and they certainly couldn't extract my virus to rebind it."
Adeline was confused by Blake's talk of codes and viruses, but she understood that Blake was saying those videos weren't posted by Jasper's people. But who else could it be? Luna? That was impossible. Luna was just a woman who depended on Jasper for everything. Every penny she had came from Jasper, and she couldn't possibly have hackers working for her.
Thinking of this, she smiled at Blake. "Then who do you think could get hold of your virus if not Jasper?"
Blake was silent for a long time before finally looking up. "I wrote this virus myself. No one else could write an identical one, and I never gave it to anyone."
"But." Blake took a deep breath. "I did give the virus to Bennett once."
