Chapter 734 Your Daughter Is Not Dead
Mia frowned as she looked out the window, then noticed Adeline, who was still deeply absorbed in her drawing. Her voice was filled with concern. "But he looks really hurt. His white shirt is completely soaked in blood."
Adeline's hand froze mid-stroke.
A moment later, she dropped her sketchpad and pencils, rushing to the window.
She didn't even notice the precious paints spilling all over the floor.
When she reached the window, she saw Jasper was sitting on a bench outside, wearing a red shirt.
There was indeed a wound on his waist, now wrapped in bandages.
At that moment, Jasper was organizing a first aid kit while talking to the servant who had provided it.
Adeline frowned and turned to Mia. "You are talking nonsense!"
He was clearly wearing a red shirt!
Mia burst into laughter, nearly doubling over.
As she picked up Adeline's things, she openly teased her, "You obviously care a lot about Jasper, but you pretend not to."
Mia sighed. "Honestly, you should just forgive Jasper. You two have three kids together. Surely you can work things out. If you're unhappy with him, tell him. If he can change, you two can stay together. If not, then break up."
Adeline gave her a helpless look, bending down to pick up her sketchpad. "Do you think relationships are like business deals? If the conditions are right, you can just continue?"
Mia frowned. "Aren't they?"
"Of course not." Adeline took a deep breath, clutching her sketchpad as she continue drawing. "Words are always easy and shallow. I want to see actions."
But judging by Jasper's actions yesterday at Lucky Restaurant, where he injured Brandon, he hadn't changed at all.
Thinking about it made Adeline inexplicably frustrated. She leaned against the headboard, unable to draw what she wanted all day.
As the sun set, she heard a car leaving outside, and a servant brought up Jasper's recording for the day.
Holding the recorder, Adeline felt a wave of irritation. She set it aside and continued drawing.
Before bed, she glanced at the recorder again and couldn't resist playing it.
But she didn't expect...
"Adeline, I got hurt today. Brandon's crew chased me. They found my hideout at Radiance Springs after searching for so long. I think it's because of the two shots I gave Brandon last night. The bullets exposed my connection with Oliver..."
Adeline listened to a couple of sentences before turning off the recorder.
Jasper's voice was as captivating as ever.
But now, she couldn't believe a word he said.
She tossed the recorder into a drawer and went back to bed.
The next morning, when she opened the window, Jasper was already waiting downstairs.
He had changed his outfit, but there were still small wounds bleeding. He was sitting on the same bench, tending to his injuries.
Adeline closed her eyes and smirked. She wanted to tell Jasper to stop pretending.
Brandon was no longer the head of the Torres family and couldn't possibly have many hitmen or bodyguards at his disposal.
And if Brandon really had that many hitmen, would Jasper have been safe after shooting Brandon yesterday?
She felt that Jasper was just taking advantage of her feelings for him, constantly playing the victim in front of her.
Thinking this, Adeline closed the curtains and went back to her drawing.
After breakfast, Mia glanced out the window.
Just like yesterday, Jasper came by himself. He hadn't brought Joseph, and Oliver was nowhere to be seen.
She looked at the empty road in the distance, frowning slightly.
Had something happened to Oliver in the past few days?
Weren't they supposed to pretend to be a couple to cover for Jasper and Adeline, creating opportunities for them?
Why had they suddenly broken their promise?
She was still waiting to return the jade ring to Joseph.
Oceancrest City Central Hospital.
In the ICU on the top floor, Zara lay pale against the headboard, gently holding Oliver's hand.
"Oliver, I know ever since you found out you're not my biological son... you haven't wanted to come home or see me. I think it's because you don't want to face me."
Zara closed her eyes and sighed. "After all, in others' eyes, your mother and I were rivals. But don't believe the rumors that your mother was a mistress. Your father and I were indeed engaged from a young age, but when he fell in love with your mother, he made it clear to me. When your father and mother were together, they were both single. As for why I married your father later, it was because he fell ill after your mother passed away. I took care of him for a while, so he married me out of gratitude."
Zara sighed, gripping Oliver's hand tightly. "I'm telling you this so you won't misunderstand your mother. She was a good person. And I..."
She gave a bitter smile. "I admit, I was jealous of her place in your father's heart. That's why, when my daughter was found and then died, I thought it was my punishment."
Zara's eyes were vacant as she spoke, "Howard never truly loved me, except when he saw me as a substitute. I always thought that even if we weren't like a normal couple, having a daughter was enough. But Daisy wasn't my biological daughter. And my real daughter..."
Tears silently fell from her eyes. "I think I should go find Molly now. I owe her too much..."
Oliver looked deeply at Zara, his throat tightening. "Mother."
He lowered his voice. "You need to live."
"My daughter is gone. What's the point of living?" Zara clutched her chest, coughing up blood. "Tell Dennis to stop wasting his efforts; let me go."
As Zara finished speaking, she fainted.
The machines in the room blared.
"Mom!" Oliver bit his lip, holding Zara tightly, whispering in her ear, "Your daughter isn't dead! She's not dead! Molly is a fake! Hold on! I'll bring her to you right now!"
