Chapter 703 Are You Willing
Adeline's eyes widened in shock as she saw the scene before her.
She quickly threw on a coat and rushed downstairs in her slippers.
When she reached the courtyard, Randy's whip was still lashing across Brandon's back.
Brandon gripped the edge of the table tightly, his voice hoarse and strained as he spoke.
"Even if you beat me to death, I won't marry Adeline. She doesn't love me, and I won't force her. I don't need her to sacrifice her happiness to repay me. I will still insist on breaking off the engagement. I won't marry her!"
Brandon's words further enraged Fiona.
She glared at Brandon furiously, "Randy! Keep hitting him! Beat him to death! Beat him to death I thought he would be the pride of the Torres family, but when I asked him to marry Adeline, he tried to run away and ended up in a car accident, becoming a cripple! Marrying Adeline is the only contribution he can make to the Torres family, and he still refuses"
She contniued, "He opposed me when he was healthy, and now he opposes me even as a cripple! He's useless alive, beat him to death!"
Fiona's words made Randy laugh uncontrollably.
"Sure thing, Grandma. Let me show you what it means to be beaten to a pulp!"
With that, he swung the whip again, striking Brandon's body harshly.
Adeline rushed over just as the whip came down.
The whip landed on Brandon's already torn back, causing blood to splatter everywhere.
Some of the blood even landed on Adeline's face.
She bit her lip and threw herself over Brandon, "Stop it, stop it!"
"Adeline..." Brandon's voice was weak as he lay beneath her, "Why did you come out? Listen to me, go back inside. This is a Torres family matter; it has nothing to do with you."
"How is she an outsider?" Randy sneered from the side, "If she marries you, she won't be an outsider anymore, right?"
Brandon rasped, "Don't talk nonsense. I won't marry her, and she won't marry me, she..."
"I will marry you." Adeline shielded Brandon, tears finally streaming down her face like a broken dam, "I will, I will! Stop hitting him, please stop!"
Brandon was already a disabled man. He was lying on that table, unable to even escape on his own!
If they kept beating him, he would die!
And the reason he was being beaten was because she didn't want to honor her promise to marry him!
Adeline held Brandon tightly, apologizing repeatedly.
"Brandon, it's my fault. I shouldn't have refused to marry you, shouldn't have easily forgiven Jasper, shouldn't have disregarded the kindness you showed me."
It was all her fault.
If she hadn't easily forgiven Jasper, things wouldn't have ended up like this!
She had put Jasper above everything, even willing to break her promise to the Torres family for him!
But what had Jasper given her in return?
Neglect, indifference, and a position that was always secondary to his hatred for the Phoebe family.
So why should she continue to be ungrateful for a man like that?
Why should she push Brandon, who had saved her life, into such a dire situation? She had been thinking about it all this time. Was Jasper really worth her sacrifice, worth betraying Brandon?
The answer was clear, but she had been unwilling to face it.
"Adeline," Brandon held her hand, his voice extremely weak. "Don't make rash decisions. If you marry me, what about Jasper? He said he would come for you after dealing with the Phoebe family; there's only one day left. You should wait for him. It doesn't matter to me; I'm already a cripple anyway."
Brandon coughed up blood as he spoke. "Grandma won't really let Randy beat me to death."
Adeline's tears flowed even more. Her tears mixed with Brandon's blood on her face, and she shook her head desperately. "I won't wait!"
Even if Jasper dealt with the Phoebe family and took her back, what then? In Jasper's eyes, love and she would always be secondary. Maybe after the Phoebe family, there would be someone else; she would always be in the background in Jasper's heart.
But Brandon was different. Every part of Brandon's heart was for her. Since she was captured, Brandon had always been thinking of her, helping her contact Jasper, pretending to be sick so she could see him.
Even to avoid making things difficult for her, he had offered to break off the engagement, getting beaten by the Torres family. Even if it wasn't love, she couldn't help but be moved.
A man who could do so much for her was rare, especially since he was the one who had saved her and ensured her and her children's safety.
Thinking of this, Adeline finally stopped hesitating. She took a deep breath and looked seriously at Fiona. "Mrs. Torres, please stop hurting Brandon. I agree to marry him."
A flicker of joy passed through Fiona's eyes. But she suppressed her emotions, sneering at Adeline. "Are you sure? Don't end up like before, saying there's no love in your heart. Only to be seduced by another man as soon as you return to Radiance Springs, breaking your promise."
Adeline bit her lip, her face pale. "This time, I'm sure."
Jasper was no longer worth her waiting for. If she could use her marriage to ensure Brandon's well-being, she was willing. Besides, Brandon had always been the godfather to her three children. She believed that no matter what decision she made, the children would understand and support her.
Once she settled things with Brandon, she would go to Radiance Springs to bring the children over!
Fiona and Randy exchanged a glance, both feeling relieved.
"Adeline," Fiona stared at her coldly. "I want to believe you. But..." She smiled, "But you have a history of breaking promises, so I won't trust your words alone. Tomorrow, I will hold a grand engagement ceremony for you and Brandon. Do you agree?"
