Chapter 730 We Are Alike
"Jasper!"
The second Brandon spotted Jasper, he squeezed his coffee cup so hard his knuckles turned white, a mix of excitement and rage coursing through him.
Jasper glanced at Brandon's clenched hand, a faint smirk on his lips. "Mr. Torres, you have been after me for ages. Bet he never thought I'd just stroll right up to you, huh?"
Jasper checked his phone. A message from Joseph read: [Success.]
The people Brandon had sent to tail Adeline were now all following Joseph's car. All the tracking devices were on Joseph.
With this news, Jasper let out a sigh of relief and looked at Brandon, whose face was twisted with anger, his eyes burning with murderous intent.
"Mr. Torres, if you don't get up now, you might never get another chance."
With that, Jasper pulled a sleek silver handgun from his waistband and fired with lightning speed.
Two gunshots echoed, and Brandon's legs each had a fresh bullet hole. The restaurant erupted into chaos.
Brandon's bodyguards, who had been searching for Jasper, rushed past him to Brandon's side, unfamiliar with Jasper's face and concerned for Brandon.
Jasper slipped on his sunglasses and casually walked through the panicked crowd, leaving the scene.
Behind him, the bodyguards' frantic voices echoed. "Mr. Torres! Are you okay?"
Brandon clutched his legs, his face pale with pain, but he dared not show any sign of it. People in the restaurant were already filming with their phones. If he showed any weakness now, his act of being sick and disabled would be exposed to the whole city.
Brandon gritted his teeth, suppressing the overwhelming pain, and ordered, "Get me to the hospital, and... catch Jasper!"
The bodyguards lifted his wheelchair. "We don't have many people left, Mr. Torres..."
Brandon snarled, "Pull half the teams tracking Adeline. Leave two people with each team. The rest, go after Jasper!"
Damn it! Where did it all go wrong? His men had been hunting Jasper all over the city for so long, and Jasper showed up unscathed, even managing to shoot him!
"How could that assassin hurt Mr. Torres' legs?"
"Good thing Mr. Torres' legs were already paralyzed from that car accident. But why does he still look in so much pain? Maybe it's not pain, but anger?"
The murmurs around him made Brandon clench his teeth harder. He balled his fists with all his might, his heart filled with fury.
He would kill Jasper.
Leaving Lucky Restaurant, Jasper drove around the outer loop of the city, just like he had over two weeks ago. The cars chasing him soon realized something was off.
Jasper was playing the same trick as before. But today wasn't a stormy day. Did he really think he could escape again?
The assassins exchanged glances and started shooting at Jasper's car, aiming to blow out his tires. But Jasper had anticipated their move. With a few sharp turns, he dodged all the bullets.
"Keep chasing him! Wear him down!" the lead assassin barked. "He dared to hurt Mr. Torres. Today, we'll make him pay!"
After five laps around the outer loop, Jasper's fuel gauge was blinking, and his car had taken a few hits. Just then, his phone buzzed with a message from Mia: [Adeline had made it home safely.]
With a deep breath, Jasper veered off the loop onto a secluded road. The assassins laughed, thinking he was making a fatal mistake.
"He's heading to a deserted area. Is he nuts?" the lead assassin sneered. "It looks like we'll catch him alive today!"
They holstered their guns and continued the chase. As they approached a small hill, Jasper's car suddenly accelerated away.
The assassins sped up to follow.
A series of explosions erupted, flipping the cars chasing Jasper. A black SUV drove up, pulling Jasper from his hiding spot and speeding away.
In the back seat, Jasper dusted off his jacket and glanced at the man in the passenger seat.
"Causing such a scene just after arriving in Oceancrest City?"
David, dressed in black leather and exuding a rogue aura, laughed. "Didn't you ask me to come here and take over the small gangs in Oceancrest City? Making a big entrance lets them know I'm here. What's wrong with that?"
David removed his sunglasses and shot Jasper a cold look. "Besides, without a big scene, how would I have rescued you?"
Jasper rolled his eyes but said nothing. David glanced at Jasper's disheveled state in the rearview mirror.
"How many times has this happened now? I saw the video of your action at someone's engagement party. Jasper, you're a real man. You don't need a woman to be whole. Why do you keep putting yourself through this for her?"
Jasper smiled faintly and changed the subject. "Isn't Linda getting married soon?"
David's face darkened at the mention of Linda. "Why bring her up?"
Jasper's smile turned cold. "You look down on me for doing so much for Adeline. But I look down on you too, for not even trying to keep the woman you love. We're not so different."
At the Torres Mansion, the bullets were removed from Brandon's legs. The doctor sighed as he looked at the tightly bandaged wounds.
"Mr. Torres, your leg injuries... you'll be confined to a wheelchair for at least two months."
Brandon's hands clenched into fists. After the doctor left, he angrily threw things and demanded from his subordinate, Charles Green, "Where are the people tracking Adeline?"
Charles looked embarrassed. "They reported back, Mr. Torres. They didn't lose her, but the car ended up at the Phoebe Mansion."
Brandon's face darkened further. He grabbed something from the table and smashed it to the ground.
"And the tracker? Is it also at the Phoebe Mansion?"
Charles' embarrassment deepened. He stammered, "No... the tracker is... in the Torres Mansion... on the bed you're lying on."
