Chapter 1003 Why is Lucien So Annoying?
Austin listened without hesitation and agreed right away.
After hanging up, he turned to Douglas with a grin, almost like he was looking for a pat on the back. "Mr. Hart, my buddy called. He set us up to go to Lakeside Hospital right now. He got in touch with the top heart specialist."
Douglas felt a wave of gratitude and quickly grabbed Austin's hand. "Austin, thank you so much."
"Don't mention it," Austin replied, clearly pleased with himself.
But Emily's face suddenly clouded over. Lakeside Hospital? Wasn't that the place Lucien mentioned yesterday?
Could this be his doing?
The thought made Emily uneasy. The last thing she wanted was to owe Lucien any favors.
Why did he suddenly come to America to find her? Was it just a whim?
No matter what, she was determined to keep her distance from him.
"Since Austin has everything set up, let's head to the hospital for the check-up first, and then we can go shopping afterward," Elodie suggested.
Douglas nodded. "Sounds good."
Austin eagerly took the lead, helping Douglas and Elodie out the door.
Emily followed, feeling a mix of frustration and dread.
They left the hotel and got into a private car.
As they neared the hospital, Emily couldn't hold back any longer. She pulled out her phone, found Lucien's number, and sent him a message. [Lucien, was this your doing?]
Lucien, already at the hospital, replied calmly, [For your father's health, I didn't want you to act on impulse.]
Emily was speechless. How was this considering her father's health?
Who did he think he was?
Emily felt her anger rising again. She bit her lip and replied: [You know I really dislike you right now. Can you stop meddling?]
Lucien said, [Health comes first. We can put our issues aside for now and focus on your father's check-up.]
Emily was furious but felt helpless. She almost wanted to tell her father not to go for the check-up, but thinking about his health, she couldn't bring herself to do it. She felt like she was being led by the nose and had no choice but to comply.
But she wouldn't back down. [Lucien, tell me which professor is helping my dad this time and how much it costs. I'll pay you back, so I don't owe you anything.]
Lucien chuckled at her stubbornness. [Professor Joseph Miller isn't someone you can just pay off to get him to help your dad.]
Emily fell silent.
This guy was so infuriating!
She decided not to waste any more words on him. [Fine, after this is over, I'll give you a million dollars.]
If money could sever the ties, she'd gladly spend a million dollars.
Lucien was silent for a moment.
His eyes darkened slightly, and he didn't argue further. [Just come over. We're waiting here.]
Emily felt utterly frustrated and at a loss.
Twenty minutes later, their rented car finally arrived at the entrance of Lakeside Hospital.
The four of them got out.
Austin, still on the phone with his classmate, attentively helped Douglas into the hospital.
Elodie and Emily walked behind them.
Elodie, seeing how caring Austin was, couldn't help but softly praise him to Emily, "Emily, you should marry a guy like him—thoughtful and caring."
"As someone with experience, take my advice and have a good talk with him, okay?"
Emily was in a foul mood. She had already decided to give up on Lucien, but now he was suddenly entangling himself in her life again, catching her off guard and making her feel chaotic.
She didn't pay attention to Elodie's words; her mind was filled with thoughts of giving Lucien a million dollars to make him leave her alone.
"Emily, what are you thinking about?" Elodie nudged her with her elbow when she didn't respond.
Emily snapped back to reality and pressed her lips together. "Nothing."
"Let's go inside first."
Elodie glanced at her face. "Alright."
