Chapter 209
"Who claimed that I treat all employees equally, Ms. Devereux?"
Loraine Plahn withdrew her scrutinizing gaze from the pair, her pink lips curling into a playful smirk. "Brady, you seem to have a particular fondness for Ms. Devereux, don't you?"
Violet Devereux was quick to refute the insinuation. "Loraine, you're mistaken. There's nothing between Mr. Hall and me."
Brady Hall, engrossed in his meal, remained silent, his slender fingers expertly carving thin slices from his steak.
A man of his caliber, if genuinely invested in a relationship, could drive any woman to madness. Handsome, youthful, prosperous, and generous, his icy demeanor might seem off-putting at first. However, upon closer acquaintance, one would discover that his aloofness stemmed from his indifference towards women he deemed unsuitable.
But when he did take an interest, as he seemed to with Violet Devereux, he knew how to indulge a woman. Albeit, his affection would lack sincerity.
To quote Loraine Plahn, a man like Brady, born into privilege and perched atop the social hierarchy, was a rare sight. His attention was a form of charity.
However, Violet Devereux was not one to be trifled with. Regardless of his looks or generosity, she would not be swayed.
"Loraine, Mr. Hall is equally kind to all his employees. You're misinterpreting his actions," she maintained, choosing to keep her distance. "He treats all Hall family employees the same." She had no intention of making the first move on Brady Hall.
Brady's thin lips curled into a barely noticeable smile at her words. He set down his utensils and pushed the perfectly sliced steak towards her. "Ms. Devereux, who told you I treat all employees the same? Do you think I'm that universally generous?" he asked, his voice firm.
Violet was taken aback, at a loss for words. She bit her lip subconsciously, picked up her knife and fork, and began to eat her steak, preferring not to engage in further conversation. The more they talked, the more convoluted the situation became.
Loraine found their interaction amusing—a pursuit and a rejection—it was quite entertaining. She mused that without witnessing it firsthand, people might not believe that Brady Hall, New York's most eligible bachelor, could actually be turned down.
She chuckled softly but refrained from further teasing, not wanting to upset Brady by appearing to mock his lady. She quietly continued with her meal.

Across town, at JK, Max Green’s office, Laura Murphy sat opposite Max Green. Her demeanor was calm and prepared as she answered his questions.
"Ms. Murphy," Max began, his tone reluctant, "I heard from the master tailor at the apparel factory that you visited them last week, is that correct?"
He didn't want to doubt Laura. She had been a reliable employee at JK for many years, with an impeccable reputation. During her tenure, she had never been involved in any misconduct or activities harmful to JK. So, Max's questioning was cautious, an attempt to preserve her dignity.
Laura was unfazed. She responded with an indifferent smile, "Mr. Green, I did visit the apparel factory. You mentioned that we needed to secure some major international orders and wanted me to scout for suitable factories. I have been visiting and communicating with various factories to find the right one. Does that make me the one who leaked information or the saboteur?"
