Chapter 1038 This Hypocrite, How Dare He Slander Her?
Emily couldn't bear to look at Douglas's expression any longer and quickly averted her gaze.
It wasn't until Douglas sat down in front of them with a stern face that Emily finally looked up and said, "Hey, Dad."
Violet followed suit and politely greeted, "Hi, Mr. Hart."
Douglas glanced at Violet, not showing any anger, and simply said, "Mrs. Hall, I'm sorry you had to come back with Emily. It's a family matter, and I'm embarrassed you had to see this."
"It's no problem, I was just on my way," Violet replied, catching the double meaning in Douglas's words. One was a thank you, and the other was a hint that this was Emily's personal matter and she should just observe without interfering.
Violet, of course, wouldn't interfere, so she added, "I won't say anything about Emily's situation. I'll let her handle it herself."
Douglas nodded and turned his gaze to his precious daughter, Emily.
He felt a mix of frustration and helplessness.
To be honest, she was his only daughter, and he had cherished her since she was a child, giving her everything she wanted. While other families were still struggling to make ends meet, he was already buying her all sorts of luxury items.
If she asked for the moon, he would have tried to get it for her.
It was this smooth sailing that made her so willful and immature!
Austin was such a good man. Why did she throw a tantrum and break up with him?
"Emily, tell me, why did you break up?" Douglas looked at Emily for a while before he couldn't help but ask.
Emily bit her lip again, not daring to meet her father's eyes.
Douglas had doted on her since she was little. If it weren't absolutely necessary, she wouldn't want to make him sad.
"Dad, we're not right for each other. Besides, I don't know if Mom told you, but he was previously engaged and has a child."
Douglas, of course, didn't know this. He furrowed his thick brows, looking at Emily and then at Elodie beside him.
Elodie quickly spoke up, "Dear, I didn't know how to bring it up, so I didn't tell you."
"You two are being ridiculous," Douglas said, a bit angry.
Emily didn't understand why Douglas thought breaking up was ridiculous. She just didn't want to continue the relationship. "Dad, he was previously engaged and has a child. Do you still want me to be engaged to him?" Of course, Austin claimed that the child was the result of the girl drugging him, but she didn't want to say that out loud.
She couldn't bring herself to say it.
As soon as Emily finished speaking, hurried footsteps came from the villa entrance.
The Hart family's maid quickly came to announce, "Mr. Hart, Mr. Roberts is here."
After the announcement, Austin followed right in.
Today, he deliberately dressed in a simple shirt and black trousers.
He looked somewhat humble.
It was a way to gain Douglas's sympathy.
"Mr. Hart, Mrs. Hart, I'm sorry to trouble you because of my breakup with Emily. I truly apologize." As soon as Austin arrived, he stood respectfully in front of Douglas and Elodie, giving them a deep bow.
"Mr. Roberts, you don't have to do this," Douglas said, feeling uncomfortable with the bow, and quickly stood up to help him.
But then Austin suddenly knelt in front of Douglas.
This made Violet, who was watching from the side, feel extremely disdainful.
Lucien would have pursued her openly.
"Mr. Roberts, what are you doing? Get up," Douglas was startled by his kneeling and quickly reached out to help him.
Austin, however, deliberately refused his help and continued, "Mr. Hart, I'm kneeling sincerely to you and Mrs. Hart because I know Emily no longer has feelings for me. She's fallen for another man. I know I can't win her back, but I've always considered you my parents, so before we break up, I wanted to show my respect."
Austin spoke earnestly and humbly, but he subtly shifted all the blame onto Emily.
Emily's face turned sour as she listened.
Her hands clenched into fists. This hypocrite dared to slander her?
