Chapter 1066 I Was Cuckolded by the Hart Family's Daughter and Forced to Resign

"What?" Juliet exclaimed, her eyebrows shooting up in surprise.

For a company of their size, the last thing they wanted was to be hounded by the media.

"I don't know either. They said the Hart Group is caught up in some scandal," the admin staff replied, having just gotten a call from the front desk about the media swarming their building.

"Alright, I get it. Keep an eye on him for me. I'm going to see Mr. Hart," Juliet said quickly, placing her phone, now cleared of photos, on her desk before heading out to meet Douglas.

Douglas arrived, his face dark with anger as he looked at Austin, who was being restrained by security. He already knew the Hart Group was surrounded by the media, and he didn't need to guess who was behind it.

Douglas felt a dull pain in his chest. He believed he had done right by Austin.

When Emily broke up with him, Douglas compensated him with an expensive house and even allowed him to work at the company despite Emily's objections.

He had done everything he could for Austin, so why did he keep pushing Emily and the Hart Group to the brink?

Douglas finally realized he was living out the story of the farmer and the snake.

"Austin, you need to know when to stop. The Hart family owes you nothing," Douglas said, his voice steady but filled with anger as he approached Austin.

"Owe me nothing?" Austin didn't think so.

He believed the Hart family owed him a great deal.

Emily had betrayed him, Lucien had pressured him, and he had lost both his wife and his job.

He was even blacklisted by the school.

He had worked hard for decades, only to see his promising future crumble because of Emily.

Thinking of this, Austin let out a cold laugh, the scars on his face from the beating making his expression even more grotesque. "Mr. Hart, do you have a bad memory? I'm the victim here. How do you not owe me? I've lost everything."

Douglas clutched his chest, his face turning pale with anger and pain. "Austin, I misjudged you."

"You never look at your own faults, only blaming us. We kept giving in, but you almost drove Emily to suicide!"

"How dare you say we owe you anything?" Douglas's voice rose, his face growing even paler.

Austin would never see his own faults. He was convinced that his current miserable state was entirely Emily and Lucien's doing.

"Mr. Hart, the pain Emily's infidelity caused me is worse than her suicide. I just didn't choose to kill myself. If I had, you would owe me forever," Austin said, almost maniacally.

He had lost everything—his job as a college professor, his fiancée, everything. He was at the end of his rope.

"You... you're beyond reason. It's my fault for being soft-hearted, thinking I owed you something for helping me. I was raising a viper in my own home," Douglas said, trembling slightly. Every time he thought about how he had listened to Austin and paved the way for him, it pained him. Emily's suicide attempt was also a sign of his failure as a father.

Douglas's voice shook as he asked, "And those reporters downstairs, did you call them?"

Austin didn't deny it. He smiled calmly and said, "Yes, I called them. I want the whole world to judge. I was cheated on by the Hart family's daughter and forced to resign. You capitalists hold all the power, controlling our lives at will. I'm the one who's been wronged! So, Mr. Hart, do you think I should seek justice?"

"You!" Douglas, a veteran of the business world for decades, had never encountered such a shameless scoundrel.

He had truly seen it all now.
