Chapter 778 She Let Charlotte to Experience Shame
As night fell, Brady was drifting in and out of consciousness, but the IV drip the doctor had prescribed seemed to be helping him regain some strength.
Violet didn't want to disturb his rest, so she left Alaric to keep him company and went next door to check on Charlotte.
When she entered the room, Violet saw Charlotte lying peacefully on the couch, asleep with a piece of tape over her mouth.
Anger surged within her.
How could Charlotte sleep so soundly after everything that had happened?
Violet was truly amazed by her.
Charlotte was shameless and incredibly resilient.
Did she feel no guilt at all for what she'd done?
Well, if that was the case, Violet would make sure Charlotte experienced shame once she was back at the Hall Group.
Violet glared at Charlotte with cold hatred.
Just then, Calliope approached, her eyes red and her voice trembling. "Violet, how's Brady?"
Calliope felt responsible for what had happened, and she had been restless and filled with guilt all afternoon.
She blamed herself for being so naive and easily deceived.
If she hadn't trusted Charlotte so readily, she wouldn't have been used by her, and Brady and Violet wouldn't have been put in danger.
For the first time, Calliope felt truly foolish.
In the military, everyone was straightforward, without hidden agendas.
She hadn't realized how treacherous and frightening the real world could be.
"He's going to be fine. He just needs a night's rest," Violet said, turning her attention to Calliope.
Noticing her red eyes, she added, "Calliope, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"I'm sorry. This is partly my fault," Calliope said, biting her lip as tears welled up and began to fall.
She had never been this emotional in the military. She rarely cried.
But since leaving the service, she had repeatedly discovered how inadequate she felt, how she seemed to fail at everything.
"Calliope, what are you talking about? This isn't your fault," Violet said, wiping away Calliope's tears. "Don't blame yourself. This isn't on you."
"No, it is my fault," Calliope insisted, her voice choked with emotion.
She looked at Violet, feeling even more guilty.
If she hadn't blindly trusted Charlotte, Brady wouldn't be in this state.
She was responsible.
"I could have stopped this. Brady called me earlier and asked me to bring Charlotte downstairs, but she texted me to meet her at the restaurant instead. I trusted her and didn't go looking for her. I thought she could come down on her own," Calliope explained, her guilt evident. "So, I'm to blame."
"Calliope, don't be so hard on yourself. You were just manipulated by her. Just don't let it happen again," Violet said, not blaming her at all.
Everyone knew how innocent Calliope was.
She had joined the military right after high school.
The military was full of straightforward people, with no room for deceit.
After so many years in a protected environment, it was natural for her to be easily taken advantage of in the real world.
"Okay, I won't trust people so easily again," Calliope said, realizing this was a harsh but valuable lesson.
She wouldn't make friends so carelessly in the future.
Wiping her tears, Calliope turned to the main issue. "So, you're just going to make her apologize publicly at the Hall Group tomorrow?"
"Of course not. She drugged Brady with a hallucinogen. I'm not letting her off that easily," Violet said, determined not to be endlessly forgiving.
The Devereux family and the Hall family were both ruthless.
Why should she keep letting them walk all over her?
"What do you mean?" Calliope asked, shocked to learn it was a hallucinogen.
She had thought Charlotte had used a simple aphrodisiac, not the latest illegal drug from America.
The infamous incident where a homeless man attacked and ate a stranger's face was caused by this hallucinogen.
Charlotte was truly evil to use such a drug on Brady.
"Of course, I'm going to give her a taste of her own medicine. She loves using this stuff so much, she should experience it herself," Violet said coldly, her expression and demeanor showing she was no longer the victim.
She was calm and full of resolve.
"I'll support you on this," Calliope said.
"Good." Violet nodded.
