Chapter 126 My Cousin, the Hotshot Attorney and Firm President - I'll Introduce You
"Come in, have a seat! Why didn't you let me know you were coming? I don't even have any fruit in the house," Helen said, setting her broom aside and speaking apologetically to Emily Hart. "I'm really sorry it's your first time visiting."
"Aunt Helen, it's totally fine. I just came to drop Violet off," Emily Hart replied, unconcerned with such formalities. "Actually, it's me who should apologize for not bringing a gift on my first visit."
"Don't be so formal," Violet Devereux said with a smile to Helen. "It's all good, Helen. Emily's practically family."
"Even family should have some fruit to nibble on. Are you working later? I could run down to the supermarket and grab some fruit and snacks," Helen offered, reaching for her purse to go shopping.
"No need to go out, I just came to check on the babies and after feeding them, I'll be on my way," Violet interrupted, holding her back.
Upon hearing their mother's voice, the twins burst out from the bathroom, toothbrushes in hand, and threw themselves into Violet's arms, clamoring for attention.
Violet scooped them up and planted a kiss on each of their cheeks.
Afterwards, she turned to Emily and introduced her children: "Emily, meet my two little ones."
Emily leaned over to get a closer look and was taken aback by their beauty. Especially the boy – he bore such a striking resemblance to Brady Hall. No wonder he had insisted on a paternity test.
If she were in his shoes, she would have done the same.
The resemblance was uncanny – from the nose to the eyes, right down to the mouth. It was as if someone had pressed 'copy and paste.'
And the little girl – she was just too pretty, like a porcelain doll with her big, grape-like watery eyes, her small upturned nose, and cherry-like mouth. "Violet, your daughter is so adorable, like a doll," Emily couldn't help but gush.
"You think so? She can be quite shy," Violet admitted, but quickly added that her daughter was developing normally, maybe even a bit ahead, especially compared to Henry.
She was both worried and excited about Henry's development. He was already speaking a few words, and he was barely over a year old – way beyond the average.
"It's totally normal to be shy. Little girls have to be a bit reserved to be sweet, right?" Emily said as she reached out to play with Nicole's soft, curly hair, smitten. "Your kids are just too cute, I'd love to give them a hug."
"Go ahead and hold her," Violet, seeing Emily's adoration, happily passed Nicole into her arms.
Nicole was initially hesitant and didn't want to be held by Aunt Emily Hart, but after her mom soothed her a little, she obediently wrapped her arms around her aunt's neck and started to warm up to her.
Violet continued chatting and cuddling with Henry and Aunt Emily as they settled onto the couch.
While they talked, she first fed Henry. Once Henry was full, she turned her attention to Nicole.
Both toddlers, now content and well-fed, clung to the two women.
Emily couldn't help but reflect. "I wish I had known how wonderful it could be to have kids of my own. I might have settled down and started a family earlier."
"I didn't have much choice," Violet said, her thoughts drifting to that unexpected twist in her life which led to becoming a mother so soon.
"Let's not dwell on the past," Emily quickly interjected, covering her mouth as a gesture to stop the words. She wanted to avoid any unpleasant memories. "Later, I'll give you a ride to work."
"Okay," Violet nodded.
After some more playtime with the little ones, Violet, remembering that Emily had a vast network, casually inquired, "Emily, do you know any trustworthy lawyers? Ideally, someone not in the pockets of the Devereuxs."
She had tried calling a lawyer recommended by Helen, but immediately sensed something off in their conversation.
So she was turning to Emily for help.
Of course, Emily knew plenty. Her family's firm employed a team of eight top-notch lawyers!
After a moment of thought, Emily's face lit up with an idea. "Yes! My cousin, a brilliant attorney and the president of his firm. I'll make an introduction."
"Thank you," Violet said, relieved that Emily could assist. "I just need someone who won’t be influenced by the Devereuxs." That was her hope in reclaiming her mother's inheritance.
"Don’t worry. My cousin is too high up for people like Eileen to influence."
"Mhm."
