Chapter 1061 That Day, Nothing Happened Between Emily and Me
After Elodie finished her rant, the emergency room light was still on, and Emily was still being resuscitated.
Lucien arrived before Austin, having already received the news.
Seeing the emergency room door surrounded by the Hart family's bodyguards, Lucien's expression darkened for a moment. He didn't care if Douglas would scold him and strode forward.
Standing in front of the bodyguards, he said in a cold voice, "I need to see Mr. Hart. Go inform him."
The bodyguards didn't know who Lucien was, but his strong presence made them instinctively obey. One of them went to inform Douglas.
Douglas was already feeling distressed when he heard Lucien had arrived.
With a stern face, he said, "I don't want to see him."
Elodie spoke up, "Let him in."
Although the Lucien family and the Hart family had past grievances, Elodie didn't want such matters to affect their children.
She had always known that Emily had feelings for Lucien.
This time, she didn't want to stand by and let Douglas interfere.
"Why are you letting him in?" Douglas was a bit angry.
"I want him to see Emily. The feud between you and the Moreau family is your business. Don't burden Emily with it. Look at her now... Do you really want to push her to the brink? Will that make you happy?" Elodie was firm this time.
A mother's strength, perhaps.
She couldn't stand by any longer and let Austin harass Emily.
After speaking, Elodie instructed the bodyguards to bring Lucien to the emergency room door.
The bodyguards nodded.
Soon, Lucien walked through the barrier of bodyguards and slowly approached Elodie and Douglas.
His expression was serious. "Mr. Hart, Mrs. Hart, how is Emily?"
Douglas glanced at him but remained silent. Elodie, with red eyes, said, "We don't know yet. She's still being resuscitated. I hope she'll be okay."
"She took over a dozen sleeping pills by herself. When I found her..." Elodie recalled going to Emily's room that morning to wake her up. She knocked, but there was no response.
After calling several times with no answer, she opened the door and found Emily lying on the bed.
Beside her was an open bottle of sleeping pills.
"Mrs. Hart, don't be sad. Emily will be okay." Lucien's expression grew more serious. He never imagined that Emily would be pushed to this point by Austin.
Risking her own life.
How foolish.
Couldn't she wait for him to handle it?
He was already gathering evidence of Austin's illegal activities. It would be over soon.
"Professor Moreau, why was Emily so foolish?" Elodie, feeling distressed, turned to Lucien for comfort.
"She asked for my help yesterday. I told her I would help, but she couldn't wait." Lucien's voice was low.
His eyes began to darken.
If anything happened to Emily, he would make sure Austin paid dearly.
Elodie was stunned, wiping her tears, "She asked you for help?"
Lucien nodded, "Mrs. Hart, there's something I need to clarify. That day, nothing happened between Emily and me. She had taken an aphrodisiac, and I called a doctor to check on her. She passed out, so I didn't send her back." Although he did have a selfish reason to keep her then.
But he would never take advantage of someone in that state.
Hearing this, Elodie's already simmering anger exploded.
She bypassed Lucien and walked towards Douglas, pointing at him and yelling, "Did you hear that? Nothing happened between them, yet you didn't trust Emily and believed outsiders instead!"
Douglas remained silent, his face dark.
Elodie continued to scold him, and at that moment, the emergency room door finally opened.
Doctors and nurses wheeled Emily out.
She was going to be okay.
