Chapter 619 Violet's Mother
"Seriously?" Eileen's jaw dropped. The Hall family was one of the most prestigious in New Future City. How could they possibly accept a girl like Violet?
Eileen could hardly wrap her head around it.
"Do you think I'd come back this late just to mess with you?" Lilian frowned and continued, "Mom, I came back to talk to you about this. You remember the scandal involving Violet's mom, right?"
"What are you talking about?" Eileen asked, still puzzled.
"Don't you remember? You told me that Violet's mom used to work as a hostess at a nightclub when she was in college. That's how she met Dad, isn't it?" This was a topic rarely discussed within the Devereux family because it was considered a disgrace.
But those who knew, definitely knew.
Eileen finally got it and quickly said, "Yeah, that's true."
Back in the day, Violet's mom was a beauty and a top student at Elysiuma Law University. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, she worked at a nightclub for a while.
It was during that time she met Gerry.
She suddenly got pregnant and quickly married into the Devereux family.
However, the year after their marriage, Eileen met Gerry at a party. Gerry was drunk and mentioned that Violet's mom got pregnant too quickly. He said he had only been with her once, and she got pregnant?
Back then, paternity tests weren't common, so he married Violet's mom.
Eileen's family, though not as wealthy as the Devereux family, was still middle-class and better off than Violet's mom's family.
Eileen couldn't understand why Gerry, who didn't seem to like Violet's mom much, married her just because she was pregnant. It was strange. Later, Eileen found out it was Gerry's father's idea.
Gerry's father was seriously ill and wanted to see his great-grandchild before passing the Devereux Group to Gerry.
So Gerry hurriedly married Violet's mom.
"Mom, do you have any evidence or photos? Brady is announcing their wedding tomorrow. I won't let her have her moment." Lilian felt a surge of jealousy and hatred at the thought of the grand announcement.
"Let me think." Eileen began to ponder.
At the time, Eileen didn't pay much attention to the matter because Gerry was already disdainful of Violet's mom when he got involved with Eileen. But when she asked why he disliked her, he wouldn't say.
Eileen just wanted to hold onto him and didn't think deeply about it. Now, thinking back, it was probably because Violet's mom suddenly got pregnant?
Gerry might have been concerned about his dignity and didn't want to question if the child was his.
So he subconsciously resented Violet's mom?
Eileen's analysis suddenly made sense. She stood up and said, "I'll go to the bedroom and look. Your dad took some photos at the nightclub back then."
Gerry loved to party in his youth, frequenting nightclubs and dance halls.
He took many photos.
Eileen had stored them in the bedroom safe.
"Mom, I'll go with you." Lilian perked up at the thought of finding photos and grabbed Eileen's hand to search together.
The mother and daughter went to the bedroom and started rummaging through the safe.
Sure enough, they found many photos of Gerry in his youth, including travel photos, solo shots, and pictures of him at various entertainment venues.
But there were no photos of him alone with Violet's mom.
"Mom, is it this one?" Lilian pulled out a photo of a young Violet's mom sitting demurely between two men. One was Gerry, and the other was a handsome, young man they didn't recognize.
Eileen took the photo and said, "Yes, that's the one."
"Your dad said this was taken the first time he met Violet's mom. The man next to her was an international student." Eileen recalled, "They were all hanging out in a private room, some knew each other, some didn't."
Lilian examined the photo closely and suddenly noticed something odd. The handsome man on the right had a striking resemblance to Violet.
