Chapter 189 A Gentleman's Code

Upon her retreat to the safe confines of her bedroom, Hellen found herself ringing up Violet, who was still engrossed in her dinner. Violet, unaware of the unfolding drama, answered promptly. "Violet, have you finished your meal?" Hellen asked, her voice laced with a hint of desperation.

Caught halfway through her dinner, Violet was oblivious to Brady's sudden departure. She responded in a calm and collected tone, "No, not yet. It'll probably be another half an hour."

'Thirty minutes? That seems like an eternity,' Hellen thought, a sense of helplessness washing over her. She knew she shouldn't have interrupted Violet's dinner, especially considering it was for her mother's situation. However, with Brady's unexpected visit, she feared she wouldn't be able to handle the situation alone.

Pacing anxiously around her room, phone clutched tightly in her hand, Hellen grappled with how to broach the subject.

On the other end of the line, Violet, noticing Hellen's prolonged silence, furrowed her brows in concern. "Hellen, what's wrong? Why the sudden silence?" she asked, her voice filled with worry.

Hellen hesitated, aware that any delay might give Brady the opportunity to whisk Henry and Nicole away. Gathering her courage, she blurted out, "Violet, Brady's here at our place."

Violet's hand, clutching the phone, trembled. She quickly glanced at the dining table beside her—was Brady's seat really empty?

Overwhelmed with anxiety, she momentarily forgot about Arthur sitting across from her. "He's really there?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"What should I do?" Hellen's voice was filled with uncertainty, unsure of Brady's intentions.

"Just keep him there. I’ll be right back," Violet reassured her before hastily ending the call. She turned to Arthur, her face apologetic. "Arthur, I'm sorry, but there's an emergency at home. I need to leave. I regret having to cut our meeting short, especially since we arranged it for business purposes. I sincerely apologize."

Arthur, having overheard her conversation, was understanding. "Ms. Devereux, no worries. I'll drive you," he offered, wiping his fingers with a napkin and standing to accompany her.

Violet, feeling guilty about leaving in the middle of their dinner, shook her head refusing politely. "Thank you, Arthur, but I’ll manage. I'm really sorry about today. I’ll make it up to you another time."

Arthur, a true gentleman, didn't press the issue. He was never one to force anyone, especially a lady. Considering this was their first meeting, and potentially not the last due to her mother's situation, he wasn't in a hurry. He nodded graciously, "Ms. Devereux, please take care."

Violet nodded in response, "Goodbye, Arthur," before grabbing her bag and making a swift exit.

Once outside, she attempted to hail a cab. However, before she could secure one, Linda from the executive office approached her. "Ms. Devereux, no need for a taxi. I'll give you a ride," she offered softly.

Violet turned in surprise, finding Linda impeccably dressed in her professional attire. "Linda, what are you doing here?"

"Brady asked me to pick you up," Linda explained. It was clear to her that Brady had taken a special interest in Violet, or else he wouldn't have sent her to pick Violet up at such a late hour.

Violet's expression darkened at the mention of Brady, her inner anger simmering. However, considering the difficulty of hailing a cab, she decided to accept Linda's offer, determined to confront the situation at home head-on.
