Chapter 844 You Should Pay More Attention to Brady
By the time the cops got the call and made their way up Stag Mountain to check things out, Darian was already in the loop.
But knowing they were digging into Jade's disappearance didn't bother him at all. He felt a weird thrill and a sense of triumph.
This was the perfect chance to mess with Brady's plans.
Wasn't he supposed to be so competent?
Darian was itching to see how Brady would squirm his way out of being a suspect in a kidnapping.
He smirked at the tip-off message on his phone, quickly deleted it, and then closed his eyes, waiting for Violet to show up.
It wasn't even thirty minutes later.
Darian was already looking dehydrated when Violet and Calliope arrived.
As soon as they walked into his office and saw him sprawled on the couch, pale and with chapped lips, Violet turned to Alaric, who had followed them in. "Didn't you take him to the hospital?"
"Darian said to wait until you got the photos," Alaric replied quietly.
He sighed inwardly, feeling a bit helpless.
He thought Darian's self-destructive behavior was pointless. Violet didn't seem like the type to cheat.
"This could lead to severe dehydration. You should take him to the hospital right away," Violet insisted, glancing at Darian on the couch.
"I'll ask Darian," Alaric said, not daring to make the decision himself.
Otherwise, Darian would blame him.
Violet was frustrated with the assistant's inefficiency. Darian was in such a state, and he still needed to ask?
"Violet, let him ask. It's fine," Calliope interjected.
She didn't want Violet to be overly concerned about a man who had ulterior motives.
Violet nodded.
Alaric approached Darian and asked softly, "Darian, should I take you to the hospital?"
Darian, feverish and dazed, still knew he had to put on a show for Violet. So he weakly said, "No, just give her the photos first."
Alaric was at a loss for words.
He sighed and turned back to Violet. "Mrs. Hall, could you try talking to Darian? He's out of it and wants me to give you the photos instead of going to the hospital."
"Mrs. Hall, could you help out?"
Violet hesitated, looking at Darian weakly lying on the couch.
She was unsure whether to take care of him.
Even though his cold was partly her fault, she still had reservations.
"Mrs. Hall?" Alaric prompted, seeing her hesitation.
"Darian can't wait."
"I'll take a look," Violet sighed and went over to assess the situation.
When she got closer, she saw his face was turning blue.
It was serious.
She couldn't worry about keeping her distance; his health was more important.
"Alaric, go get the car. We'll take him to the hospital," Violet said as she poured some water.
Seeing this, Calliope, wanting to limit Violet's interaction with Darian, quickly stepped in and took the glass from Violet. "Violet, let me handle it. I was a field medic in the special forces. I've got experience."
"Okay." Calliope's medical background was more reliable than her lack of experience.
So she handed over the glass.
Calliope took the glass and went to help Darian drink.
Darian, in his haze, saw it was Calliope and not Violet, and tried to knock the glass away.
Fortunately, Calliope wasn't just anyone.
Darian's attempts were no match for her.
In no time, she had him subdued and said to the dazed Darian, "Mr. Voss, Violet is married. Taking care of you could cause a scandal. I know you got caught in the rain because of her, so let me help you. Drink the water, and we'll get you to the hospital."
Darian glared at Calliope but had no choice but to drink the water she offered.
His hand clenched into a fist at his side, frustrated that she was ruining his plan.
"Violet, he's fine. Don't worry," Calliope said after giving him a few sips, turning to Violet.
"Alright, can you help him up? We'll take him to the hospital," Violet said, trusting Calliope's judgment.
Calliope nodded, flexing her arm slightly. "Violet, I didn't build these muscles in the army for nothing."
Violet nodded again. "Need a hand?"
"No need, I got this. I used to carry guys 30 pounds heavier than Mr. Voss in the army," Calliope said as she helped Darian up.
Darian struggled slightly, trying to push her away.
Calliope swiftly restrained him with a practiced hold.
Darian was immobilized, gritting his teeth as he muttered, "Ms. Green, you're strong."
"Mr. Voss, it's best if you don't talk right now," Calliope said with a slight smile, leaning in a bit closer. "Mr. Voss, Violet is married and loves Brady. Don't get any ideas."
Darian, despite his fever-induced dizziness, managed a smile. "You should worry about Brady. He might be getting a call from the police as soon as his plane lands."
