Chapter 1079 I Thought a Lot, I Am Prepared to Never Get Married
"By the way, Lucien's been a huge help with everything," Violet said, letting go of Emily and guiding her to sit on a nearby bench.
She hadn't told Emily yet, but Lucien had actually quit his job because of her.
He returned to the Moreau family to assume control of the family business.
Lucien hadn't explicitly said why, but Violet could guess that he wanted to protect Emily in the business world.
Especially after the whole Austin incident, who knows if there would be another Austin 2.0 or 3.0 trying to target the Hart family business.
Because of this, Violet genuinely thought Lucien was a good man.
However, this time, she didn't dare to play matchmaker again. She just wanted to tell Emily the truth.
Emily had been quite happy, but the mention of Lucien made her fall silent.
She knew very well how much Lucien had helped her, but she and Lucien were simply impossible.
Not just because of the feud between the Moreau family and the Hart family, but also because of her own reasons.
After everything that had happened, even though she still had feelings for him, she didn't dare to jump into another relationship.
She had already decided that she wouldn't date or marry again. She planned to adopt two children from an orphanage and raise them as her own, letting them inherit the Hart family business.
"Emily, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought him up and made you upset," Violet apologized quickly, seeing Emily's expression turn somber.
Emily shook her head and said, "It's okay. I'm not upset because of him."
"Then let's not talk about him," Violet suggested.
Emily suddenly looked at the clear blue sky in the distance and said, as if she had seen through everything, "I've been thinking a lot while staying in the hospital these past few days. I've decided not to get married for the rest of my life."
Violet was stunned by her words.
Not far away in the garden, Lucien, who had come to visit Emily today, froze upon hearing her declaration.
He stood there, his eyes deeply fixed on the woman sitting in the sunlight.
Emily continued, "I'll adopt two children from an orphanage and raise them as my own."
Violet felt a pang in her heart and said, "Emily, you're still so young. Don't think like that. You can't let one Austin make you afraid of marriage."
Emily sniffled, looking up at the sky with tears glistening in her eyes. "Forget it. I think I'm just really unlucky. Nothing ever works out for me. I don't want to cause any more trouble for myself or my parents. I'll just live alone."
"Emily..." Violet didn't know how to comfort her.
Emily shook her head. "It's okay. You don't need to convince me. I'll take good care of myself."
Violet wanted to say more, but seeing Emily's profile, she decided against it.
She hoped that one day, Emily would meet someone truly good for her.
Someone who would love and cherish her for a lifetime.
The two of them sat in the garden for another half hour. When Emily started to feel tired, Violet helped her upstairs. Lucien remained in his spot, watching them leave.
His eyes grew darker and more intense under the sunlight.
After Violet took Emily back to her hospital room and chatted with her until she fell asleep, she finally left.
As she stepped out of the room, she saw Lucien standing in the hallway.
Violet was surprised and walked over. "Professor Moreau, did you just get here?"
Lucien glanced at the door of the hospital room and said, "No, I was here when you were in the garden."
The garden?
Violet's heart skipped a beat. "So, you heard what we were talking about?"
Lucien didn't deny it. "I heard."
And it hurt him deeply.
Violet sighed. "The whole Austin thing really hit her hard. She's too scared to fall in love again."
