Chapter 214
Within the austere confines of Hall Corporation's headquarters, Brady Hall had just settled back into his office when Linda ushered a young man through the door.
"Mr. Hall," she introduced, "this is Wade Green from our IT department. His skills rival those of a seasoned hacker."
Brady's hand hovered over a report on his desk, his fingers idly flipping through the pages as he addressed the newcomer. "And what discoveries have you made, Mr. Green?"
Seizing the opportunity, Wade stepped forward, confidence radiating from him. "Mr. Hall, I have managed to trace the origin of the leaked information."
Brady's interest was instantly piqued. He set the report aside, his full attention now on the young IT expert. Wade had traced an online ID to a username, which subsequently led him to the IP address of the company in question. "The source is Rainbow Entertainment, located in the Newburgh area," he revealed.
Brady nodded thoughtfully, turning his gaze towards Linda. "Linda, perhaps you should pay a visit to Rainbow Entertainment. Let's uncover what tricks this entertainment company has up its sleeve to meddle with the Hall family."
Linda, understanding her assignment, stood respectfully. "I'll see to it immediately, Mr. Hall."
With that, Linda and Wade exited the office, leaving Brady alone. He leaned back in his chair, allowed himself a brief moment of respite, and then plunged back into his work. It wasn't until the clock struck six that he received news of Violet Devereux's hospitalization.
Violet had been rushed to the hospital earlier in the day. After some emergency care, it was determined that she was suffering from water intoxication. The cause of her condition remained a mystery, one that only Violet herself could possibly unravel. After all, doctors were not detectives.
Once her condition had stabilized, she was moved to a standard room. She was still weak and required a day's rest, but she was no longer in immediate danger.
Violet had initially planned to recuperate at home, but Max Green, out of concern for her wellbeing, arranged for her to stay in the hospital for half a day before being discharged the following morning. She reluctantly agreed to his plan.
Max returned to check on her after completing the admission paperwork. Violet's complexion had improved slightly, but she still appeared rather pale.
Seeing her in such a state stirred a wave of compassion within Max. "Violet, the doctor said it was water intoxication. But our company's water supply has always been safe. What on earth happened?"
She wished she had an answer.
Why did it feel like someone was constantly targeting her? With a voice as brittle as glass, Violet responded, "Mr. Green, should we involve the police?"
She had her suspicions. Perhaps it was Laura Murphy or Fanny stirring up trouble, but without solid evidence, she couldn't accuse anyone without being labeled a troublemaker. Yet, she didn't want to remain a target.
"If we get the authorities involved, we'll know for certain."
"Involve the police?" Max hesitated. With J.K. recently embroiled in a scandal, involving the police could complicate matters further. He was concerned that it might tarnish J.K.'s reputation and drag the Hall family name through the mud.
"Hmm, involving the police is the only way to find out who's behind this?" Violet spoke slowly, "Otherwise, there could be more incidents in the future, and I really don't want to end up dead in JK."
Max understood her concerns. After a few moments of contemplation, he said, "Alright, I'll call the police."
"You should rest for now; I'll step outside to make the call."
"Okay." Violet was genuinely grateful for Max's unwavering trust and support.
She was aware of Max's feelings for her, but she maintained a professional demeanor. Now was not the time for personal matters.
She didn't dwell on it.
Max stepped out into the hospital corridor to call the police, while Violet covertly dialed Hellen, not wanting her to worry.
The call was promptly answered, and Violet said, "Hellen, I'm not feeling well and am at the hospital. I won't be able to come home tonight. Could you look after the kids for me?"
"What's wrong? Where does it hurt, which hospital are you at? I'll come over with the kids right away," Hellen responded urgently.
"It's nothing serious, I just had some bad water and my stomach is upset," Violet downplayed the situation, not wanting to burden Hellen with the news of her workplace troubles.
"Violet, just tell me which hospital, I'll bring the kids over tonight."
Violet had initially been reluctant to have Hellen come, but seeing her concern, she relented and gave her the hospital's address. After ending the call, she lay back down to rest and recover.
