Chapter 892 Honor His Fallen Comrade
"Henry was too fast for us. We couldn't keep up," Hellen said, catching her breath.
"No worries," Brady replied, lifting Henry again. "So, what treasure did you find?"
"Look, a little starfish!" Henry exclaimed, holding it up proudly.
Brady glanced at it and smiled. "That's awesome. How about we go look for more starfish over the next few days?"
Henry nodded eagerly. "Yeah, let's do it!"
Nicole, holding the nanny's hand, saw Brady only holding Henry and felt a pang of jealousy. She reached out her arms. "Daddy, pick me up too!"
Brady smiled warmly and scooped her up with his free arm. "Did you find any treasures, Nicole?"
Nicole shook her head and pulled a small, pale seashell from her dress pocket. "Daddy, look, a seashell."
"Is this the treasure you found?" Brady asked, feigning curiosity.
Nicole nodded.
"It's beautiful. I love it."
Nicole's face lit up with joy. "Daddy, it's for you."
"Thank you," Brady said, kissing her forehead.
Just then, Violet came downstairs, fully dressed.
She walked into the living room and gave Brady a playful mock-angry look before reaching out to take Nicole. "Nicole, want to go find more seashells?"
Nicole's eyes sparkled. "Yes!"
"Mommy, I want to go too," Henry said, squirming in Brady's arms.
"Let's all go together," Violet said with a smile, setting Nicole down.
Henry nodded and wriggled out of Brady's arms, running to Violet and clinging to her.
Brady watched them lovingly. "You guys go ahead. I need to find Bob and take care of a few things."
They were planning to stay for about a week, and he needed to make sure everything was in order.
"Okay, you go do your thing," Violet said, still a bit annoyed from their earlier close call with Henry.
With that, she took the kids and Hellen back to the beach to play.
Brady went to find Bob.
Bob and the other staff lived in a row of wooden cabins not far from the villa.
Brady, familiar with the route, found the cabins and went up the steps to knock on the door.
After three knocks with no answer, he figured Bob might be preparing their dinner and decided to check the kitchen by the villa.
As he stepped down from the porch, he ran into the mixed-race girl who had been spying on them earlier.
They both froze for a moment, surprised to see each other.
Brady was the first to recognize her. "Julie Walsh?" Julie was mixed-race, with striking features.
Julie was surprised he remembered her.
She blinked her deep blue eyes at him, bit her lip, and nodded shyly. "Hi, Brady."
"You've grown up," Brady said, recalling how he had met her.
When he was a mercenary in Radiantia, a close comrade had been killed during a mission.
Before dying, the comrade had entrusted his only relative, his 16-year-old sister Julie, to Brady for protection from their enemies.
Julie didn't have a Crestoria citizenship, so bringing her back to the States wasn't feasible.
Brady had left the then 16-year-old Julie on this island under Bob's protection.
Years had passed since then.
Brady checked in with Bob annually to ensure Julie's safety, feeling it was the least he could do to honor his fallen comrade.
