Chapter 842 It Seems Effective

"Hey, no worries. If you ever wanna meet the boss, just give me a shout," Darian said, trying to sound friendly.

Violet didn't want to lean on his help, but she didn't want to brush him off either. So, she smiled and said, "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind."

"Don't be all formal with me. We're partners now, and I want my partner to do amazing things."

Violet nodded. When Darian talked shop, he seemed pretty normal, not as mysterious as before.

Maybe she was just overthinking things earlier, or maybe folks had him all wrong?

The car kept moving and soon pulled up to the Hall Group building.

Darian parked and said, "We're here. You go ahead and start brainstorming with the stuff we got today. I'll go develop the photos we took at the school; they might spark some ideas."

"Sure thing. And hey, change out of those wet clothes so you don't catch a cold," Violet said as she got out of the car.

The building's security guard came over, offering her an umbrella to keep her dry.

"Thanks, I got it," Darian replied with a warm smile, waving her off kindly.

He then drove off to his studio.

Once there, Darian didn't rush to change out of his soaked clothes.

He let himself stay a bit damp, hoping to get sick, and went straight to his office to work on the school photos.

There were a bunch of shots from today, and he had secretly snapped a few of Violet's face.

Darian placed the camera on the design table and started sorting through the film.

Just as he got going, Alaric came in with the entry forms for the design competition, knocking on the door.

Seeing Darian standing there drenched, Alaric rushed over, shocked, "Darian, you got caught in the rain? Why haven't you changed? You're gonna catch a cold for sure."

Alaric had spent years abroad with him and knew his constitution—he always caught a cold when he got wet.

And now, he was standing there in a soaking wet shirt.

"Isn't catching a cold a good thing?" Darian said, looking at the film in his hand. "Help me develop these negatives."

Alaric nodded, "You're not gonna change?"

"I'll change later," Darian said, glancing at the entry forms Alaric brought. He scoffed, "If it weren't for Violet, I wouldn't bother with such a low-level competition."

Alaric knew Darian looked down on these competitions, but it was all for Violet, wasn't it?

This competition was different, though; they were planning to invite Jade.

He had just gotten this juicy news, so he rushed over to tell Darian.

"Darian, I got some insider info—they're planning to bring in your teacher," Alaric said, amazed. "But Mr. Hall also approached her. Think it's Mr. Hall's doing?"

Darian replied coolly, "What's it to you?" He wasn't about to tell Alaric that he had already brought Jade over and was keeping her in his basement.

The fewer people who knew about this, the better.

"I'm just worried about you," Alaric said, concerned that Brady might dig up Darian's past and ruin his reputation.

Though Darian had emerged as a brilliant designer in recent years, he had a shady past abroad.

Drug use, injecting substances, and a past incident involving a minor.

Alaric had helped him clear these issues overseas, but if they came to light, Crestoria would never accept him.

So Alaric hoped Brady wouldn't find out and suppress him.

"Focus on your tasks. Get those photos developed and bring them to me," Darian instructed, slowly starting to remove his shirt.

Once he took it off, he felt a slight dizziness in his head.

Looks like it was working; he caught a cold.
