Chapter 962 He Doesn't Like This Austin, Prefers Lucien?
"Austin, I'm really sorry I'm late. I had to finish up a research project after work. I didn't mean to keep you waiting," Austin said as he hurried over, looking both polished and sincere.
He genuinely seemed to care about Emily.
Emily looked at him, pushing past her inner reservations. She needed to learn to accept him, so she took a deep breath, stood up, and forced a smile as she welcomed him to sit down. "It's okay, Austin. Please, have a seat."
"We haven't been here long," she added.
Seeing Emily smile at him for the first time, Austin's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't quite believe it. He had feelings for Emily, but he knew he wasn't exactly her type. Emily was beautiful, with a lively and playful charm, while he was more reserved and serious.
But he wanted to give it a shot. For one, he liked her. And at 28, he felt it was time to settle down, especially with someone like Emily, whose family was wealthy.
His own family was quite ordinary, with his parents being retired college professors and his uncle working as a minor official. Compared to Emily's family, who were worth millions, his background seemed quite modest.
Yet, Emily's parents hadn't looked down on him. They were actually quite nice to him.
He wanted to hold on to her tightly, hoping that with her father's influence, he could establish himself in the city and climb the social ladder.
Of course, Austin kept these thoughts to himself.
Right now, his goal was to win Emily over.
He hadn't expected her to invite him out today, and even smile at him. Austin felt that his efforts over the past few weeks were finally paying off.
Feeling both flattered and nervous, he sat down next to Emily.
As soon as he sat, Emily began introducing him. "This is Mr. Hall from the Hall Group, and next to him is his wife, Violet, my best friend."
Austin listened nervously, his polite smile becoming a bit stiff.
Of course, a wealthy girl's friends were also wealthy.
And not just ordinarily wealthy.
Anyone with a bit of knowledge about the financial world was familiar with the name Mr. Brady Hall from the Hall Group.
Meeting such a top-tier business magnate made Austin incredibly nervous.
After Emily finished the introductions, Austin finally regained his composure and forced a refined smile. "Mr. Hall, Mrs. Hall, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you, Austin," Violet responded first.
Brady gave him a polite nod after a brief glance, acknowledging him.
Why did Brady have a slight dislike for Austin?
He wasn't as good as Lucien, was he?
But this was Emily's personal matter, and Brady didn't want to interfere, so he kept his thoughts to himself.
They all ordered their food and began eating.
As dishes with a bit of spice were served, Brady noticed the chili-laden plates and asked the waiter for a bowl of clear water. He placed it in front of Violet so she could rinse the food before eating, to prevent it from affecting her breastfeeding.
Seeing Brady's thoughtfulness, Austin felt the need to show his attentiveness as well.
He poured water for Emily, handed her a napkin, and even served her food.
While eating, he kept asking, "Emily, would you like anything else?"
"No, thank you," Emily replied, feeling a bit embarrassed by his overly attentive service.
She quickly and awkwardly declined.
"Are you full?" Austin continued to ask gently.
"Yes, I'm quite full."
Their conversation was somewhat awkward.
Suddenly, Brady stood up and said, "Excuse me, I need to use the restroom."
He left the table.
Seeing this, Austin sat for a few seconds before also standing up, saying he needed to use the restroom. He wanted to exchange business cards with Brady and get to know him better.
