Chapter 850 Do You Think I Can't Handle This
At the Hall Mansion
Violet and Brady got back home, and Brady made a beeline for the study to tackle some work and wait for a call from the cops.
Meanwhile, Violet stayed downstairs to hang out with the kids. But even as she played, her mind was miles away, worried sick about Brady.
She was so lost in thought that when Henry brought over a toy, asking for help with his building blocks, she didn't even notice.
It wasn't until Hellen gave her a gentle nudge that she snapped back to reality, quickly flashing a smile and joining Henry and Nicole in their play.
"Violet, what's going on? You've been kinda out of it since you got back. Is everything okay?" Hellen asked, her concern clear as day.
"I'm fine," Violet replied, knowing she couldn't spill the beans about Brady's situation.
That would just add another person to the worry list.
"Alright, if you say so. But you don't look too great," Hellen said softly, giving her shoulder a reassuring pat. "Are you worn out from looking after the kids? Why not take a breather?"
"I can stick around and play with them."
"Hellen, I haven't had much time with them lately. I'll play a bit longer and then head upstairs," Violet said, pushing her worries aside and forcing a smile.
Hellen realized she wouldn't get more out of Violet, so she let it drop. "Okay, if you're sure."
Violet played with Henry and Nicole for another half hour before heading upstairs to check on Brady.
Brady was still holed up in the study, deep in his work.
Violet peeked in from the doorway, then went back downstairs to make him a cup of coffee.
Once the coffee was ready, she poured it into a glass mug and carried it upstairs herself.
In the study, Brady was still buried in his paperwork.
Violet set the coffee next to his laptop and, instead of leaving, wrapped her arms around him. "Honey, take a break and have some coffee."
Brady looked up and gave her a warm smile. "Did you make this?"
Violet nodded. "Yep, just for you."
"But it's pretty hot, so take it slow."
"Got it." Brady put his papers aside, picked up the coffee, blew on it, and took a sip. "It's really good."
"Should I make you a cup every day?" Violet asked, still holding onto him, not wanting to let go.
Brady set the cup down and pulled her onto his lap, sensing her worry. "You're worried about me, huh?"
Violet didn't deny it, resting her hands on his shoulders, her eyes downcast, her voice a bit plaintive. "You told me not to worry, but I can't help it. You haven't told me exactly what's going on. You just mentioned Jade and the police investigation."
"So I'm scared something might happen."
Seeing her so worried, Brady felt a warmth spread through his chest. He gently pinched her nose. "It's nothing. If there was a problem, I wouldn't be sitting here calmly working."
"Come on, do you think I can't handle this? Afraid of a little situation like this?" Brady chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
Did she think he was just some regular guy with no skills?
Why was she so scared something would happen to him?
Back when they went on that wild adventure in Radiantia, he wasn't afraid of anything.
Now, with this Jade situation, compared to the risks in Radiantia, it was nothing.
What was there to be afraid of?
The only thing to watch out for was Darian causing trouble.
"Don't laugh. If you don't explain, of course, I'm worried." Violet was genuinely concerned, and his laughter only made her more anxious.
She playfully punched him, pretending to be mad. "Don't you know you're the heart of our family? You're the dad to our three kids."
"Not three." Brady wasn't fazed by her playful punch; instead, his eyes were deep, filled with affection.
"Not three?" They only had three kids.
Was there a fourth?
"Of course not, we have four kids," Brady said gently.
"Where's the fourth?" Violet frowned, puzzled.
"Silly." Brady couldn't help himself and leaned in to give her a deep kiss.
His dear wife was adorably clueless.
"The fourth is you, of course." Brady smiled after the kiss.
Violet finally got it, her eyes lighting up, her cheeks turning a soft pink.
Brady kept finding new ways to touch her heart.
"Are you teasing me?" Violet said, blushing and playfully scolding him. "You're getting cheekier."
"How so?"
"Here." Violet pointed to his lips.
Brady chuckled, taking her hand and pressing it to his chest, saying, "This is where."
The soft touch made Violet's ears burn with embarrassment. "You're being improper again."
"You like it when I'm improper, don't you?" Brady teased, kissing her lips. "Honey, I told you not to worry. Don't worry. We've been to dangerous places like Radiantia together. Do you think this is anything?"
"Besides, this is a place of law. If you haven't done anything, can they force you to admit it?"
Violet nodded. "Okay, I won't worry too much."
"Good, now give me a kiss." Brady pulled her closer, his voice low and inviting.
