Chapter 19 He really wants to date her
After sending that message, Max truly believed that Violet had taken the bus and left, so he didn't continue waiting. He started the car right away, pressed on the gas pedal, and quickly drove away from the apartment.
Seeing him leave, Violet immediately breathed a sigh of relief. She had been preparing to grab her bag and head towards the bus stop.
It had been a year since she last appeared, and yet the black Mercedes belonging to the Devereux family, whom she despised so deeply, was parked in front of the apartment.
Violet looked at the familiar car and the familiar license plate, including the terrifying presence of her grandmother inside.
The fingers holding her bag's straps instantly clenched tightly.
This grandmother had been completely deceived by her stepmother, Eileen, and had no affection for her own granddaughter. Whenever she saw Violet, it was as if she encountered an enemy.
Violet didn't understand why she would still come looking for her.
Hadn't she already been kicked out?
Suppressing her anger, Violet stared firmly at the black Mercedes, ready to ignore it. After all, the Devereux family had already turned their backs on her, so she didn't need to have any ties with her grandmother.
Right now, all she needed was to make herself strong.
She took two steps, and the driver of the Devereux family stopped her from going any further.
Behind her, her grandmother got out of the car with a cane in hand, her face cold, tapping the ground with the cane, making a dull sound as she walked towards Violet.
In a malicious and gloomy tone, she started, "You shameless little slut, who would've thought that even after a year, you still haven't repented and insist on inviting trouble for yourself?"
Violet listened to her scolding, not feeling wronged at all, only coldly looking at her and mocking, “Grandmother, it seems you've forgotten that you kicked me out of the Devereux family. I am no longer your granddaughter, so please don't come looking for me."
Violet stood tall and spoke each word distinctly.
After speaking, she pushed away the driver's hand and continued walking forward.
Her grandmother glared at her coldly, insanely saying, "As long as I'm alive, I won't allow you to snatch the man your sister likes!"
"If you dare, I will kill you."
After her vicious threat, her grandmother turned around and went back to the car, tapping her cane. In an instant, the Mercedes rushed past Violet.
Violet watched the car drive away.
Her fingers tightened instantly.
Her grandmother was biased to this extent. She didn't really need to treat them as her own family anymore.
She had no interest in stealing, but she wouldn't let them off either.
Being threatened by her grandmother so early in the morning, Violet's good mood had already diminished by half. She took the bus to the company and hurriedly clocked in.
She felt lethargic.
It wasn't until Mr. Green suddenly called her to his office to discuss something that she slightly regained her spirits and went to knock on Mr. Green's office.
She knocked on the door three times.
Max, who was in the office, called out "Come in" and Violet quickly pushed the door open.
"Ms. Devereux,"
As she entered, he immediately smiled and waved at her, beckoning her to come over.
"Mr. Green, what can I do for you?" Max continued to smile gently as she handed her a design proposal on the table.
"You did a great job working late last night. Here is a design proposal for a high-end client. Take a look and give me a rough sketch by the end of the day. I want to see your design skills."
After Max finished speaking, Violet was taken aback.
Was Mr. Green assigning her a task?
Violet suddenly felt pleasantly surprised as she took the file for the design proposal, nodding repeatedly and thanking Max. "Thank you, Mr. Green, for trusting me. I will work hard on the design."
This was her second day at work, and she was officially taking on a design task.
She had to do well.
"No need to thank me. Showing me your best design would be the greatest gratitude," Max said softly, looking at Violet's beautiful face, and a slight ripple formed in his heart.
Violet was so beautiful.
He really wanted to get to know her better.
Mr. Green stared at her obsessively, making Violet feel embarrassed.
She quickly cleared her throat and reminded him, "Mr. Green... Do you have any other matters? If not, I'll go back to the office first."
"No, I'm done. I need to prepare for the morning meeting," Max snapped out of his daze, coughed awkwardly twice to conceal his momentary lapse, and replied.
"Okay," Violet held the design drafts in her hands and left the office.
However, as soon as she left Max's office, the female employees who were more experienced than her started whispering to each other, covering their mouths, "Hey, why did she go to Mr. Green's office so early in the morning?"
"Why else? She must be trying to seduce Mr. Green! Isn't she still in her internship period? If she doesn't pass the internship period, she won't be able to stay."
"Hmph, she's just a sly fox! Did you know? Yesterday, I asked her to bring me a document, and she accidentally bumped into a waiter. The waiter spilled the tea he was carrying all over her chest... tsk tsk... it was all wet... and you could see everything she was wearing underneath... it was disgusting... And... even though she was all wet, she didn't leave. She stood there arguing with the waiter, and in the end, it caught the attention of the president of our North America's four major families, the White family!"
"Is that true?"
"I was right there, okay?"
"She's really impressive. I think she's only 22 years old? Graduates these days really have no boundaries. They would do anything for money and power."
