Chapter 989 Why, Now That He Has a Girlfriend, Does He Still Want to Boss Her Around?

Emily hung up on Lucien, her face still flushed with anger.

She was inexplicably furious.

How would he dare try to boss her around just because he had a girlfriend now?

Emily clenched her fists, taking a few seconds to calm down. She turned around, grabbed her mom's car keys, and drove off to meet Violet.

The two friends had agreed to meet at the downtown plaza.

Violet arrived first, gently cradling a baby in her arms as she waited for Emily.

She hadn't planned on bringing the baby out, but otherwise, Henry and Nicole would have insisted on coming along.

Luckily, Matilda had wanted to spend time with Henry and Nicole that morning.

So Violet was able to come out with just the baby.

After waiting for five minutes, Emily finally arrived.

She parked the car and quickly ran over to Violet, surprised to see her holding the baby.

Her mood instantly lifted, a smile spreading across her face. "Hey, why'd you bring your little princess out?"

"Henry and Nicole went to Matilda's to play, so I brought her along," Violet said, gently stroking the baby's head.

Emily understood and smiled, taking the baby's chubby little hand and playing with her. "Your little princess is so adorable."

"She's so cute, I almost want to have a baby myself."

As she continued to play with the baby, Emily said enviously, "I'm thinking about getting engaged soon."

Violet was taken aback, her expression turning a bit worried. "Emily, maybe you should take your time and not rush into an engagement?"

"Some men can be very different before and after marriage."

"Why would Austin be like that?" Emily had spent a lot of time with him recently and hadn't noticed anything off.

He was honest and intelligent.

She used to only care about looks, ignoring the importance of inner qualities in a marriage.

Now she realized how foolish that was.

"Violet, I never wanted to get married before. I thought I should enjoy life until I was 30. But when my dad got sick, I realized I couldn't be selfish anymore. I need to take responsibility for the Hart family."

"Marrying Austin would be great. His family is academic, and we are in business. He could help me out, or even if he just focuses on being a professor, I wouldn't have to worry about him scheming against me. We could live a peaceful life without family drama. Isn't that nice?"

"Then I could have three kids like you."

Emily had never considered these things before, but lately, she had been thinking about it a lot. The idea of a simple, happy life seemed really appealing.

Who needed a handsome guy?

A simple life was so much better!

"Emily, I think you shouldn't rush into this," Violet said, frowning with concern.

But how could she tell her that Austin wasn't as honest as she thought?

He had almost gotten engaged to someone else out of town.

And he had a child from that relationship!

"What's wrong? Weren't you the one who encouraged me to give Austin a chance?" Emily noticed Violet's hesitation, sensing she had something to say.

Violet was conflicted, unsure how to bring it up.

She wished she had asked Brady about Austin before encouraging Emily.

Now...

Violet sighed internally. "Emily, let's go to the bridal shop first, and we can talk more there." Standing on the street wasn't ideal.

"Sure," Emily agreed. "By the way, have you decided on your wedding dress yet?"

"Yes, I made an appointment at a boutique that specializes in unique, custom wedding dresses. If I like it, I'll buy it right away since the wedding is next week. You have to be there."

"Of course."

She wouldn't miss her best friend's wedding for anything.
