Chapter 626 Compromise
"So, what exactly happened between you and my mom back then?" Violet asked, noticing how agitated he was. She knew something was up and wasn't about to back down.
Normally, her dad had a 'none of my business' attitude. It took a lot to get him this angry.
And now, just a photo had set him off.
So, there had to be something wrong with the photo.
"What could have happened between your mom and me?" Gerry's tone grew nastier. "But you, you keep causing me trouble. Now look, you've got your own father thrown in jail. Where's your conscience?"
"If you tell me what really happened, I might be willing to drop the charges and put in a good word about your bail," Violet said, looking at him.
Gerry snorted, showing no interest in getting out. "No need. I'm fine here. Besides, I won't be here long. I'll be out soon enough. Just go."
Gerry turned to follow the guard back inside.
Suddenly, the door to the visiting room opened, and the warden walked in with Brady. Violet turned and was momentarily stunned before saying, "What are you doing here?"
"I was worried about you," Brady said, whispering a few words to the warden, who nodded and left.
Brady walked over to Violet, pulled up a chair next to her, and sat down. He looked at Gerry and said, "Mr. Devereux, please sit." Ever since Gerry had hit Violet, Brady had never acknowledged him as his father-in-law.
So, he never called Gerry 'Dad.'
Gerry glanced at him, showing no interest in talking. "Mr. Hall, I don't think we have anything to discuss."
"That's not necessarily true. We have plenty to talk about," Brady said confidently.
Seeing his assured demeanor, Violet couldn't help but ask quietly, "Do you know what I'm investigating?" Brady was too smart for her to hide anything from him.
Brady didn't deny it. He met her gaze and said, "Leave this to me."
Violet shook her head. "This is about my mom. I want to handle it myself." She couldn't rely on him for everything.
"How about I assist you? Your dad won't tell you the truth otherwise," Brady said, knowing Gerry well.
Gerry had kept this secret for years, clearly not wanting it brought up.
Without some pressure, Gerry wouldn't talk.
Violet thought for a moment. Her dad definitely wouldn't tell her, so she'd need Brady's help.
"Okay," she agreed, realizing she still needed Brady.
Brady turned back to Gerry, speaking slowly. "Mr. Devereux, you can choose not to tell us the truth. We can also choose to make sure your family is completely removed from New Future City."
Gerry's eyebrows shot up in alarm. "Mr. Hall, what do you mean?"
"You know exactly what I mean. I hope you'll talk to us, just like Violet said. She might be able to bail you out," Brady continued.
Gerry's face darkened. He knew exactly what Brady was up to—trying to drive away his wife, Lilian, and his mother.
Gerry had no power now. Brady could crush him like an ant.
But this was a huge humiliation for him!
Admitting it would be degrading.
"Mr. Devereux, shall we talk?" Brady tapped the table with his fingers, urging him to sit down.
Gerry's eyes darkened. After considering it, he reluctantly sat back down.
He couldn't let his mother be driven out of New Future City in disgrace.
