Chapter 130 What was Jacob's angle?

She Once Played Him, Now He's Keen on Her

Violet spun around to see the handsome man sitting in his office chair like a king, a frown swiftly creasing her brow. Biting her lip, she declared, "Mr. Hall, I'm not considering it."

With those words, she quickly slid the door open and left.
She wouldn't sell herself out for the likes of Brady Hall.

After Violet Devereux stormed out, Brady Hall sat at his desk, his fingers drumming lightly on the polished surface, his mind burning with desire for only her.

Getting a woman was always easy for him.

And in time, he would offer her compensation she couldn't resist.

Like, say, a $6 million loft in New York.

He doubted even the headstrong Violet Devereux could walk away from that.

After pondering for a moment, Brady decided to invite Mr. Taylor in to discuss the paternity test results that had called for suspicion.

Mr. Taylor entered with respectful composure as Brady, rising from his executive chair, leaned assertively against the desk, studying the troubling document in his hands.

Approaching Brady, Mr. Taylor inquired cautiously, "Mr. Hall, is there something else you need?"

"What do you suppose the odds are of two people looking so alike by pure chance?" Brady asked, flipping a page of the report.

With professional certainty, Mr. Taylor replied, "Roughly one in a thousand."

It wasn't as if there were no cases of non-relatives bearing a striking resemblance, but the probability was exceedingly rare.

One in a thousand.

"So, the boy resembles me so closely. Do you think it's chance or something else?"

Taken aback by Brady's question, Mr. Taylor pondered seriously. Mr. Hall's doubt cast a shadow on the credibility of the authoritative paternity report, but it was unerringly accurate... wasn't it?

The lab technician was a known associate of Mr. Taylor's, unimpeachably meticulous.

But as he ruminated, it was undeniable that the boy and Mr. Hall shared an uncanny resemblance.

Brady's suspicion was justified.

Weighing his response, Mr. Taylor cautiously assured, "Mr. Hall, I can vouch for the accuracy of the report, there shouldn't be any errors, but could there have been an issue during the sampling process?"

"An issue during sampling?" Brady raised an eyebrow, gazing at Mr. Taylor.

"Yes, it's just speculation. However, I personally oversaw the sampling. If there was a problem, it might be due to contamination of the sample," Mr. Taylor admitted frankly.

He hesitated, searching Mr. Hall's face, then asked, "Mr. Hall, would you like to redo the test?"
Brady Hall paused for a few seconds, then waved a dismissive hand, "Let's hold off on that for now. Harbor Bay's about to break ground, and I've got a feeling Aiden White will make a move soon. Focus on that situation."

"Understood. I'll keep a close eye on Harbor Bay, Mr. Hall," Mr. Taylor assured him.

Brady Hall nodded, "Go ahead and step out."

"Will do, Mr. Hall," Mr. Taylor said as he turned to leave.

Brady continued to lean against his desk, glancing at the paternity test in his hand. Once he’d taken care of current matters, he intended to get that paternity test redone.

As for Violet Devereux... she had begun to pique his curiosity, bit by bit.

Back at the JK offices,

Violet carried the postnatal supplements back to her desk, but her mind was in a whirl, not focusing on work.

What was Brady Hall trying to convey?

Insisting on giving her these supplements?

And what had his private doctor told him?

Violet regretted fainting from the rain in Loraine Plahn’s neighborhood. If that hadn't happened, she would've been spared all this trouble. At least the paternity issue was now put to rest.

She hoped Mr. Hall had enough pride not to claim a child that wasn't his.

Her bigger concern now was his hint at wanting her for more... intimate reasons. She’d have to be out of her mind to comply. That was out of the question. Besides, he wasn’t lacking for female company; hadn’t there been a supermodel in his apartment recently?

Maybe he was just intrigued by novelty?

He had thought she was out to get him, and now suddenly, his avoidance made her fascinating – a new chase for him. That's how men are.

Violet feared Brady Hall might use his power to coerce her and the thought only intensified her anxiety. She was agitated, sitting uneasily until Max Green approached to inquire about her visit with Mr. Hall.

She snapped back to the present, pushing her worries aside.

If it came down to it, she would just have to take it one step at a time.

She’d cross that bridge when she got there.
