Chapter 604 Don't Overthink
Violet was watching the news, getting more and more upset, so she decided to turn it off. However, her coworkers were buzzing with excitement, discussing the latest gossip. After all, their company had a connection to the Hall Group's leading lady!
How could anyone not be excited?
"This is such a big deal, we should talk about it. Who do you think the Hall Group's leading lady is in our company?" They gathered around the office area, clutching their coffee mugs, ready to gossip.
"I think it might be the young receptionist. She's so pretty and young."
"No way, the news said she's a designer."
"There are only five designers under 25 in our company, and two of them have boyfriends who often pick them up from the Hall Group. I've seen them. So that leaves three: Catherine, Violet, and Jasmine."
"Out of those three, I think Violet is the most likely. She's the prettiest."
"Really? I think Jasmine might be a better guess. Her family is well-off, and Mr. Hall's family background isn't something you can just marry into."
Jasmine quickly waved her hands in denial, "It's not me, don't guess randomly. I've never even met Mr. Hall."
"Then it's down to Catherine and Violet."
Catherine wasn't buying it either, "Do you really believe everything online? Remember, the Hall Group has a strict no-office-romance policy. Mr. Hall wouldn't break that rule. I think the news is just making stuff up."
"You know, that actually makes sense."
"Forget it, let's stop guessing and keep watching the news. But seriously, that daughter-in-law is ruthless, stabbing her mother-in-law? And her mother-in-law is a celebrity! How could she dare?"
"She must have had some dirt on her. Isn't that how it always goes in TV dramas? The daughter-in-law has some dark secret, the mother-in-law finds out, and to stay in the wealthy family, she has to kill her."
"That's terrifying. It really shows that marrying into a wealthy family isn't for everyone."
"Exactly! And Mr. Hall wouldn't settle for just anyone, right?"
As the gossip continued, Violet felt increasingly uneasy. She couldn't stay any longer and took her phone to the hallway to text Brady, worried he might believe the online rumors.
Violet: [Brady, how's your mom doing?]
Brady replied almost immediately: [She's fine, she pulled through.]
Violet felt a bit relieved: [I'm sorry, this is all because of me.]
Brady knew she would feel guilty, which was exactly what his mom had planned: [You have nothing to feel guilty about. This isn't your fault, so don't blame yourself.]
Despite his words, the online backlash was all directed at her, and she feared the Hall family relatives would also resent her: [Brady, I'm really upset.]
Brady: [Don't overthink it. Just focus on being happy. Your good mood is important for our baby's health.]
Violet sniffled: [What about when your mom gets out of the hospital? Will she...]
She was worried Ava might harm herself again, causing more chaos at home.
Brady understood her concerns: [Once she's out, Dad will take her to America. She won't affect us. Violet, remember, marriage is about two families, but it's mostly about us, right?]
Violet pressed her fingers to her eyes, realizing she was overthinking: [Okay, I understand.]
Brady replied gently: [Be good and don't overthink, or I'll have to "punish" you tonight.]
At that, Violet's previously troubled mood lifted, amused by his teasing.
He was right. Worrying wouldn't help. Brady was handling everything, so what was there to be concerned about?
