Chapter 178 He Held Nicole in His Arms

In the heart of downtown, Brady Hall sat furrowed-browed in his Bentley, puzzled by the two messages he had sent to Violet Devereux, which she had yet to respond to.

He guessed she must be frantic by now.

Instead of getting angry, he calmly glanced out the window at night, and after a moment's thought, he took out his phone to call a police officer friend from his inner circle, asking for help in searching for the child.

The call went through quickly. When Brady mentioned the address Violet gave, James said, "Mr. Hall, the address you provided doesn't match the kidnapping report we just received."

Brady's brow furrowed slightly. "How come?"

"The address for Miss Devereux that we have isn't in your area," James said, reluctant to disclose confidential information, even to his friend, Brady. "Unfortunately, I can't reveal the specific location; our system doesn't allow for that."

"Please understand, Mr. Hall."

Brady nodded, emitting a soft "hmm" and asked, "Have you dispatched officers?"

"Yes," James continued. "They're at the Westlink Fresh Fruit Supermarket. That's all I can tell you."

The Westlink Fresh Fruit Supermarket. That was enough for him; he had ways of tracking her down.

"Thank you," Brady said appreciatively before hanging up. He then instructed his driver, "Linda, pull up Violet Devereux's job application details for me."

Linda met Brady's eye in the mirror and nodded. "Understood, Mr. Hall."

After ending the call with the HR to retrieve Violet Devereux's address, Linda pressed on the accelerator and headed towards Westlink.

In less than ten minutes, Brady Hall's car was rolling into the vicinity of Westlink.
Linda was about to make a turn towards the neighborhood fruit mart when Brady Hall glanced out of the car window, catching sight of the bustling street scene.

Someone was running with a child in their arms.

Yet, no one was chasing her, but she sped along as if her life depended on it.

Brady Hall couldn't help but fix his gaze on them, and his eyes darkened at the sight—the woman was holding Nicole.

Nicole was crying her eyes out in the woman's arms, her little face flushed from tears.

"Stop the car, Linda," Brady commanded instantly.

Linda, not yet grasping Brady's intentions, glanced in the rearview mirror with a puzzled look, then immediately hit the brakes.

The car came to an abrupt halt.

Brady Hall swung the door open and dashed out.

He started to chase the middle-aged woman, and given his male stature, his strength naturally outpaced hers. Within a few strides, he snatched her by the collar, his voice icy and indignant, "How dare you take my daughter? Have you got a death wish?"

Caught by him, the woman had no escape, but, mistaking him for another would-be kidnapper, she burst into tears, "Help, someone's trying to take my granddaughter. Somebody, please help!"

The woman struggled amidst her tears, trying to shrug off the grasp of the strikingly handsome stranger.

But she couldn't break free.

Her lament turned into a wailing cry, "Help, help me. Somebody, please! My child is being taken!"

Her cries frightened Nicole even more, who bawled continuously.

The passersby began to gather, ready to aid the middle-aged woman.

Brady Hall asserted authority, "Call the cops and see what happens. Do you want to help her? Go ahead, call them."

The onlookers, seeing his calm demeanor in waiting for the police and the woman's agonizing cries, indifferent to the sobbing child gasping in her arms, began to doubt.

"You can't trust him; he's trying to take my granddaughter," the woman cried out in desperation when she saw the bystanders' inaction.

"With so many witnesses, nobody can get away. What's there to fear?" Brady Hall, the CEO who controlled the Hall family, exuded calmness and an imposing presence.

His powerful aura silenced the crowd.

It made sense to them; surrounded by people, no one could flee. Why not wait for the police to find out who the child belonged to?

Thus, the onlookers shifted their allegiance to Brady Hall's side. Watching Nicole nearly out of breath and crying, Brady's gaze turned even icier. He reached out, snatched Nicole from the woman's arms, and held her close, gently patting her back, trying to soothe her.

Brady Hall, despite his youth, had no experience with children.
For some inexplicable reason, cradling Nicole filled him with paternal love; he just wanted to shower her with affection.
