Chapter 1039 I Know Emily and Lucien Stayed Overnight, I Even Thought About Suicide
"Mr. Roberts, what are you talking about? How could my daughter Emily be interested in someone else? Hasn't she been with you all this time?" Douglas's face was clouded with concern as he looked at Austin.
Austin lowered his gaze, his face full of sorrow. "Mr. Hart, that's not the point. The point is, I love Emily very much. I don't care if she doesn't love me back. I just want to take care of her and cherish her for the rest of my life. I'll love her more than that other guy ever could."
"Austin, what are you even saying? If we're breaking up, then let's break up. Why are you trying to drag my name through the mud?" Emily couldn't hold back any longer. She bit her lip and stood up.
Austin had already decided to go all out. If he couldn't have Emily, then neither could Lucien.
The Moreau family and the Hart family had a significant business conflict in the past, which had turned into a grudge.
Because of this, Lucien would never get Douglas's approval in this lifetime.
"Emily, you can scold me, you can blame me, but please don't lie to me, okay?" Austin looked up at her, his eyes intense.
Emily saw the look in his eyes, and her heart twisted painfully.
"I didn't, Austin. Stop slandering me. Besides, isn't it true that you have a fiancée and a child?" Emily gritted her teeth as she spoke.
She had never imagined she would find herself in such a situation.
It was just a breakup, not an engagement or a marriage.
Why did it have to turn into such a dramatic scene, like a messy divorce?
"I will explain this to Mr. Hart," Austin said, suddenly standing up and gently dusting off his pants, still playing the victim. He looked at Douglas and said, "Mr. Hart, I am truly grateful to have met Emily and your family. I have tried my best to love and care for her and all of you. Just two days ago, I was even ordering wedding gifts online. But reality is harsh. When I found out Emily spent the night with Lucien, I even considered suicide. But I calmed down. I love Emily, and I can accept her flaws."
Austin choked up as he spoke, "And I swear, everything I said is true. If it's not, may lightning strike me down."
Douglas found it hard to criticize him and even felt the sincerity in his words.
"Austin, can you stop making things up? I didn't do anything," Emily said angrily.
"Enough, shut up," Douglas didn't want to hear her speak. For the first time, he lowered his voice and yelled at her.
If what Austin said was true, then it was his daughter's fault.
Having a boyfriend while entangled with another man, what was that?
Emily had never been yelled at by her father like this before. Her eyes instantly reddened.
"Dad, I won't say anything, but I must break up with him."
Douglas felt that Emily had wronged Austin and didn't want to hear her out. He turned to Elodie and said, "Take her upstairs. I'll handle this."
"Dad, I want to break up." Emily didn't want to go upstairs.
The issue wasn't resolved yet!
"Go upstairs," Douglas yelled again, clutching his chest as he did.
Seeing this, Emily didn't dare to defy him. She quickly said, "Dad, are you okay? I'll go upstairs right now. Please don't be angry."
She wiped her tears and headed upstairs.
Violet, seeing this, also decided to go upstairs to accompany Emily.
With Emily gone, only Douglas and Austin remained in the living room.
Douglas apologized, "Mr. Roberts, I apologize on Emily's behalf."
Austin shook his head, "Mr. Hart, it's okay. I can tolerate everything, but I can't stand being dumped without a clear reason."
Douglas was silent for a moment before saying, "Mr. Roberts, if you don't mind, I can compensate you. How about that?"
"Mr. Hart, what do you take me for?" Austin feigned indignation. "I don't want money. I truly love Emily."
"Then what do you want?" Douglas was at a loss for how to compensate him.
