Chapter 601 You're Divorcing Me for Her?
That night, Violet couldn't work on her manuscript as planned. After a bath, she fell asleep in Brady's arms and didn't wake up until morning, despite her phone's persistent alarm.
She sat up in a panic, realizing it was already 8:30 AM. Brady had naturally gotten up earlier. Rubbing her eyes, she saw several missed calls on her phone.
They were from Max.
Violet didn't need to answer to know it was about her missing the deadline last night. But since Max was her boss, she had to call back.
As she got out of bed to wash up, she put the call on speaker.
Max's slightly loud voice came through, "Violet, did you not submit your manuscript? The celebrity is demanding an explanation."
"There was an issue at home yesterday, but I can finish it today," Violet replied.
Max sounded a bit exasperated, "They wanted to see the draft yesterday."
"I know. She mentioned a million-dollar penalty," Violet said just as Brady walked in. He came up behind her and spoke to Max on the phone, "I'll handle the penalty. You don't need to worry about it."
Max was startled, "Mr. Hall.."
"That's all for now," Brady said, hanging up the phone. "To be honest, the person you're dealing with is my mom."
Violet paused mid-brush, "Really?"
"Would I lie to you? So don't worry about the manuscript," Brady said, wiping the toothpaste foam from her mouth with a damp towel.
"Okay," Violet nodded.
If it was really Ava's request, she'd rather give it up.
At the Hall Mansion.
After breakfast with Matilda, Michael asked Ava to stay and discuss family matters.
Ava knew he wanted to talk about Violet and the kids, so she put on a softer demeanor. "Honey, I know I was a bit much before, but I'm ready to change."
Michael looked at his wife and frowned, "Is that really how you approach making changes?"
Ava raised an eyebrow, her tone turning angry, "What did I do wrong? Everyone's against me. Now I'm willing to change, and it's still not enough?"
"You should reflect on yourself. Is this how a mother-in-law should act?" Michael, mindful of their marriage, kept his temper in check but was still angry.
Nicole's thing had shocked him.
He couldn't just stand by.
"I've already reflected. What more do you want?" Ava, used to being adored in the entertainment industry, threw her spoon on the table and sneered. "Do you want me to die?"
"No one wants you dead! We just want you to accept them," Michael said, trying to control his anger.
Ava scoffed, "I said I'm changing. What more do you want from me?"
Michael felt like he didn't recognize his wife anymore, especially after the doctor said Nicole had developed a stress disorder. His anger flared, and he slammed his hand on the table.
He shouted, "Do you know Nicole developed a psychological disorder because of you?"
His voice was so loud that Ava was startled, her eyes wide.
"Her illness has nothing to do with me! If she's mentally ill, that's not my fault. Maybe she was always crazy," Ava retorted, her temper flaring.
In a fit of rage, Michael slapped her hard, "Get out! You clearly don't want this family to be happy. We should just get a divorce." What was the point of keeping such a wife? To ruin the family?
"Michael, you're divorcing me for that low-class woman's child? I'm doing this for our family, for our son," Ava said, holding her cheek, her eyes red with anger.
"Fine, you're kicking me out for them? You'll regret this!" Ava glared at her once-loving husband, her eyes catching sight of a pair of scissors on the table.
She grabbed them and, in a moment of desperation, stabbed herself in the stomach.
"If you want me gone, I won't make it easy for you!"
