Chapter 1004 I Helped Your Father with This Matter, Also Hoping You Wouldn't Impulsively Get Married
At Lakeside Hospital, in the office of the cardiology specialist.
Lucien sat across from Joseph, discussing Douglas's condition.
Joseph was his cousin's husband; otherwise, Lucien wouldn't have been able to get an appointment with such a top-tier expert.
In fact, he had only learned about her father's illness in the past couple of days.
Last night, he had specifically asked his classmate Austin about the situation and found out that her father's heart wasn't in great shape.
Although Douglas had undergone surgery in Crestoria, there was no guarantee it had been entirely successful.
As they chatted, Austin's classmate Eugene Bailey knocked and entered.
With a slightly gaunt face and a fawning smile, he greeted, "Professor Moreau, Professor Miller, hello."
"Are they here?" Lucien glanced at him, his eyes cold and distant.
Eugene nodded, "Yes, they're here."
"Bring them in," Lucien said, standing up and stepping out to give them privacy.
Eugene nodded again, "Alright."
The two left the room, with Lucien heading to the nearby doctors' lounge to wait, while Eugene went to fetch Emily and the others.
On the ground floor, Austin helped Douglas inside and began texting Eugene for updates.
Eugene, emerging from the elevator, replied to Austin as he made his way to them.
They finally met in the lobby. Not wanting to waste Joseph's time, Eugene exchanged a few words with Austin before leading them upstairs to see Joseph.
Emily accompanied them upstairs. Joseph wanted to conduct a thorough examination of Douglas but preferred not to have too many people in the office, so only Elodie stayed with him.
Emily and Austin waited in the hallway.
While waiting, Austin and Eugene had some matters to discuss, so Emily sat on a nearby bench.
Emily, troubled by thoughts of Lucien, didn't say much and went to sit on the bench.
As soon as she sat down, she received a message from Lucien. [Come to the doctors' lounge. I'm here.]
Seeing his message, Emily's face instinctively tightened.
Why should she go to him?
Emily bit her lip, not wanting to deal with him.
Lucien sent another message. [Should I come over?]
Emily remained silent.
Annoyed.
[Lucien, what do you want?]
Lucien replied, [Then come to me?]
Emily was frustrated but also worried that if Lucien showed up, it would cause a conflict with Austin. After thinking it over, she made a foolish decision. She got up and lied to Austin, "Austin, I'm a bit thirsty. I'm going to the vending machine to get a drink."
Austin, not suspecting anything, replied gently, "Alright, be careful."
"Okay."
Feeling agitated after lying, Emily wondered how she was any different from a fickle woman.
She had agreed to date Austin, and he treated her well.
Why was she still swayed by Lucien, that jerk? He asked her to come, and she actually went?
But Emily knew she wouldn't cross any lines.
Following the signs on the wall, she found the doctors' lounge.
There weren't many people there; the doctors were all busy elsewhere.
Aside from Lucien and a nurse flipping through some files, there was no one else.
Emily, looking tense and upset, walked over. Before Lucien could speak, she said, "I don't mind you taking the initiative this time, but please don't contact me again. I have a card here with $2 million on it as a thank you for your help."
As she spoke, she pulled a card from her small bag and handed it to Lucien.
Lucien didn't take it; he didn't need the $2 million.
Seeing him refuse, Emily tossed the card into his hand and turned to leave. Lucien blocked her path, his voice low but sincere, "I'm not asking you to be with me right away, but I helped your father because I hope you won't rush into marriage."
"Austin isn't as great as you think."
