Chapter 683 People Are Selfish

Helen's eyes welled up with tears, a mix of disappointment and despair hitting her hard.

She'd been holding back and worrying all this time, but now it was clear. James had made his stance known.

She and Juniper were no longer his priority; he was probably ready to go back to Evelyn.

Helen didn't need to pretend anymore. It was time for everyone to show their handShe wiped away the tears threatening to fall, looking at James, her voice tinged with desperation. "James, I know you came back for Evelyn. It's okay. Go find her. But please, for the sake of our marriage, can you help Juniper?"

"Juniper has been kidnapped, and you don't seem to care. What am I supposed to do?"

Helen fought back a sob and continued, "I know this is my karma, and I'll bear it. But please, help Juniper."

"I'll go apologize to Evelyn. I can even give up my place as your wife to her. It was supposed to be hers anyway. I took it from her without knowing better. So I'll apologize. Just help me find Juniper, okay?"

Helen had never felt so desperate and helpless.

She was willing to give up everything from the Lawson family, to let Evelyn take her place, as long as Juniper returned safely.

"What are you talking about?" James asked, confused by her words.

Helen was on the verge of breaking down, her emotions running high, unable to think calmly. All she could think of was that if she gave up her place to Evelyn, James would save Juniper.

"I'm saying I can give up my place to her. She was supposed to be your wife. I used tricks to take it from her. I know I was wrong. So I'll apologize, I'll confess, I'll accept it all. But you have to save Juniper."

James's expression darkened, looking at Helen in disbelief.

It was as if he had just heard something incredibly shocking.

His thoughts were momentarily chaotic.

What tricks? What was supposed to belong to Evelyn?

"Can you tell me where she is now? I'll go apologize to her right away, okay?" Helen walked up to James, grabbing his hand, abandoning all her pride and dignity, pleading with him.

She just wanted to save Juniper.

James frowned, his lips pressed tightly together, remaining silent. After a while, he slowly said, "She's dead."

Helen froze, her eyes wide with shock.

Evelyn was dead!

So James hadn't seen her?

Helen's expression changed rapidly. She had just confessed out of fear that James wouldn't save Juniper.

But then Helen thought about it. This matter had been weighing on her for over 20 years.

It had been tormenting her.

She had to say it eventually.

Saying it now was fine; she wouldn't have to carry the psychological burden anymore.

"So, what exactly are you talking about?" James asked, looking at her intensely.

Helen's lips tightened, her fingers trembling.

"Tell me, what did you do to her?" James's voice grew heavier, making Helen's heart skip a beat.

She looked up at James, her lips twitching into a bitter smile. "You don't have to be so harsh. I already said, what happened before was my fault. I'll give up my place."

"You only have eyes for her, but you forget there's me, too. I love you. She was pregnant with your child, and so was I." Helen's smile faded, her eyes reddening again.

People are selfish. For her child to have a complete family, she had to drive Evelyn away.
