Chapter 699 I Have a Clear Conscience
Daniel glared at Violet and Ava, surrounded by the flash of cameras, his eyes burning with rage like a volcano about to erupt.
Grinding his teeth, he clenched his fists, ready to stand up and shout at Violet for showing up.
His daughter, Charlotte Devereux, sensing Dabiel's intention, quickly grabbed his hand and said, "Dad, you can't take her on. Don't do anything rash."
Charlotte was a few months younger than her cousin Lilian, but her insight into people was far superior.
She calmly urged Daniel to stay composed.
But Daniel couldn't swallow his anger. "Eileen died so horribly, you know that. How can you expect me to stay calm?"
"But if you act impulsively, the reporters will just label you as reckless. Look at why she's here today," Charlotte continued.
Her delicate face instinctively turned towards Violet.
The name Violet was familiar to her; Lilian had often interacted with her on social media, discussing this girl.
Lilian despised Violet, hated everything about her.
Especially now, Violet was living better than Lilian, having married into the prestigious Hall Group.
Meanwhile, Lilian had fallen from grace, and Charlotte felt both sorrow and anger on her behalf.
Violet had gone too far.
Lilian's family was utterly ruined, and Charlotte wouldn't let Lilian suffer in vain.
She would avenge Lilian.
Charlotte looked at Violet calmly, already determined to infiltrate the Hall Group.
Having just graduated from a top business school, her qualifications were more than enough to get her into the Hall Group.
Violet had taken everything from Lilian, so Charlotte would take her husband.
She was confident she could win over Brady.
Violet and Ava continued walking towards Daniel, stopping just before his table. Violet glanced coldly at Daniel and said, "Mr. Devereux, didn't you say you had evidence? Then show it."
Daniel had been waiting for this moment, his eyes icy, lips curling in disdain. "Mrs. Violet Hall, you truly are shameless."
She could actually face the evidence of her abuse.
Daniel coldly finished speaking and took out a recorder, playing the tape.
The recording had been specially edited by the Devereux family, only capturing the sounds of Violet hitting Eileen.
Eileen's voice was absent.
This disjointed recording made it sound like Violet was at fault.
But upon closer listening, it was clear something was off.
Violet in the recording claimed the beatings were justified.
So, where were Eileen's words?
Why weren't they included?
Even if Eileen was mentally unstable, there should have been screams or something, but the recording had none.
The reporters weren't foolish; they sensed something was off and hesitated to criticize Violet. They didn't want to offend her, and the recording was too ambiguous.
They couldn't conclude easily.
"Friends of the press, you all heard it. This is the evidence!" Daniel, seeing the reporters whispering among themselves, assumed they were on his side, his expression turning confident.
Eileen's parents, upon seeing Violet, couldn't contain their hysteria and began cursing her. "How dare you come here? You killed our daughter. How can you live with yourself?"
"Yeah, you wicked woman. Aren't you afraid of karma?"
Violet felt contempt in her heart. So this was the Devereux family's upbringing.
Like parents, like children.
"I have a clear conscience," Violet said coldly. "Besides, I'm not here to watch your performance. The online accusations of me abusing Eileen have severely impacted me and the Hall Group. I need to clarify things."
As soon as Violet finished, Daniel snarled, "Ridiculous. What are you clarifying? Facts are facts."
"You drove Eileen, your stepmother, to her death!"
