Chapter123 Better She Leaves Sooner Rather Than Later
Once Brady left, Violet scrutinized the garment bag in her aunt's hands, realizing it was her own clothing. "Aunt, is that my dress?" she asked hastily.
"Yes, Ms. Devereux," responded the aunt, having already picked up on Violet's special status in Mr.Hall's life and treating her accordingly. "Ms. Devereux, go ahead and change. I'll whip up a walnut and gelatin tonic for you."
"I don't need a tonic," Violet said, taking her clothes and eyeing her aunt curiously.
"The doctor said you're weak and could use some nourishment," the aunt replied, heading to the open kitchen to prepare the blood-enriching walnut and gelatin mix.
Violet was even more baffled. What doctor?
After a moment, she quickly grasped at her aunt's arm, "Aunt, how did I end up here yesterday?"
"I don't remember."
"Oh, Mr. Hall brought you home," her aunt recalled candidly. "You were drenched and unconscious from the rain and fever when Mr. Hall carried you in. Luckily, he called a doctor."
So, nothing really happened between them last night?
And it sounded like Brady Hall had saved her?
Violet pursed her lips, puzzled at the turn of events.
"Why did Mr. Hall bring me back here?" Violet Devereux continued to ask.
"I don't know," her aunt replied, as if she had the answers. "Ms. Devereux, why don't you go change your clothes, and I'll whip up some gelatin."
"Oh, thank you." Violet's mind was a bit of a jumble.
On one hand, Brady Hall seemed so domineering, imposing, and a little wicked, yet he had been the one to save her last night.
Violet was conflicted.
But no matter how conflicted she felt, she knew he was only after one thing.
So, she didn't want to overthink his intentions; she just changed into a fresh set of clothes while her aunt tended to the gelatin. Brady Hall was still in his dressing room, not having made an appearance.
Violet was ready to leave.
Suddenly someone rang the doorbell at Brady Hall's apartment. Her aunt, hearing the sound, was the first to answer the door.
Violet planned to make her exit as soon as the door was open.
The door swung open and, before the visitor could step inside, Violet caught a whiff of a pleasant perfume.
Then came a sweet, cooing voice: "Brady, darling."
At that title, Violet's heart skipped a beat.
Her mind raced with speculation – could it be Brady Hall's girlfriend?
"Good morning, Miss Leana," her aunt greeted familiarly, recognizing the supermodel and one of Mr. Hall's friends.
As to the nature of their friendship, she wisely didn't inquire.
"Is Brady up yet?" Leana walked in gracefully, carrying a box of gourmet breakfast.
True to her occupation, she was all legs and charisma – certainly a sight to behold.
So, Violet mused, a man like Brady Hall would never be short of female company.
Relieved that she hadn't agreed to his outrageous proposition, she grabbed her purse and told her aunt, "I should be going."
Her aunt seemed anxious at the prospect of her leaving, "Ms. Devereux, the gelatin's not ready yet. Why don't you wait?"
"I don't need it," Violet firmly declined, not wanting to lead the conversation back to the events of the night before.
Leana was already sizing her up with a hostile gaze. Who was this woman in Brady's apartment?
As jealousy bubbled up inside her, Leana couldn't help but ask, "Auntie, who is she?"
"I work for Mr. Hall. I'll leave you two," Violet interjected quickly, hoping to prevent her aunt from revealing too much and to avoid any unnecessary drama.
"So early in the morning?" Leana's beautiful face was tinged with envy as she scrutinized the equally stunning Violet Devereux.
"Hmm," Violet Devereux wasn't in the mood to elaborate and briskly walked out with her bag in hand.
It was high time to leave that den of gossip behind.
