Chapter 163 Resign

Brady Hall's car didn't linger for long, he had other pressing matters to attend to and instructed his driver to move on. Only after he left did Violet Devereux dare to step out, gaze at the disappearing car in the harsh sunlight, and pressed her forehead in resignation. She was determined – as soon as she finished designing Loraine Plahn's wedding dress, she would resign.

At the Hellen’s Apartments, two little ones were taking their afternoon nap. Upon returning, Violet tried not to wake them and headed straight to the bathroom for a shower to wash off the sticky sweat from the tennis match with Brady. The sweat left her feeling sticky and uncomfortable. After her shower, she changed into cozy pajamas.

Hellen came over with a plate of sliced watermelon and said, "Violet, have some watermelon. It’s hot outside, isn't it?"

"Yeah, let me finish this first, then I'll have some," replied Violet, nodding at Hellen.

"I've been thinking about selling this apartment and finding us a new place to live," Hellen said as she set the watermelon down and took a seat.

Violet was puzzled why Hellen would want to sell such well-located real estate. "Hellen, this is a decent location, why put it on the market?" The property prices in New York were staggering. Even if they sold their current place, affording a better location seemed uncertain. Sure, Hellen's apartment wasn't in the poshest area, but it was satisfactory.

"I'm thinking about Henry and Nicole's future schooling. They deserve a better school district, and while this location isn't bad, the local schools here leave much to be desired," Hellen explained, revealing the thoughtfulness that came with her years.

With that realization, Violet understood Hellen's foresight all too well.
Violet couldn't help but say, "Hellen, hold off on selling for now. I'll work hard for a couple of years, and by the time Henry and Nicole start preschool, I'm sure I'll have enough for a down payment."

Hellen chuckled. "Violet, it's not that I don't believe in you, it's just that the real estate prices here in New York are sky-high. Even a tiny, rundown 500-square-foot house in a good school district can go for five million. You tell me how you're going to save up a few million for a down payment in just a few years? What if it's not enough? Do you want to risk the kids' chance at a good education?"

Currently childless, Hellen became Violet’s mother figure after her sister’s passing. Naturally, Hellen was prepared to give her everything a mother would.

"Hellen, I don't want to rely on your property. Besides, I've got Emily's support. She referred me to a great lawyer. I'm meeting him in a couple of days, and I'll recover Mom's inheritance. Then we won't have to worry about getting into a good school district."

She was resolved to reclaim the Devereux family inheritance rightfully due to her mother.

"I know your mother's inheritance could cover a house, but that's still pending, right? And you know how the Devereux clan operates... cunning and spiteful. They won't just hand over the inheritance that easily," Hellen said, gently patting the back of Violet Devereux's hand. "Listen to me, sell this house, add a little to it, and you'll have the down payment for a new place."

"Hellen, I..." Violet hated the thought of taking Hellen's property. "I can manage on my own."

"Just trust me , it's settled," said Hellen with a gentle firmness. "Just focus on your job, take care of those two little darlings, and don't let Brady Hall walk all over you."

Violet wanted to protest further, but Hellen was so adamant that she held her peace. It was time to meet with the lawyer Emily had mentioned.

The lawyer was her cousin. She felt she could trust him.
